Doncaster Rovers v Coventry City

Doncaster Rovers vs Coventry City Team News

Doncaster could hand a debut to on-loan Spurs keeper Ben Alnwick after the club conceded five goals at the weekend. Rovers are still severely hampered by injuries, although Shelton Morris could return after two months out.
Coventry will be without Marlon King after his sending off at the weekend, but Martin Craine returns after a ban.
Danny Ireland may again deputise for goalkeeper Keiren Westwood, who was forced of at half-time against Bristol City with a hamstring injury.

Doncaster Rovers vs Coventry City preview

Just three months ago Doncaster and Coventry looked like genuine play-off contenders. However, wretched starts to 2011 for both clubs mean that Championship survival is now the name of the game. The hosts kick-off eight points above the relegation zone, with City only six above the bottom three.

Goals look to be a prerequisite in games involving these two sides at the moment. Indeed their defeats at the weekend saw the ball hit the back of the net a total of 12 times. Both clubs have kept only one clean sheet in their previous 13 league games.

In fact Doncaster have conceded 30 goals in 14 league games since the turn of the year, and let in three or more goals on five occasions. An injury crisis and a fixture backlog is never a good mix, especially not for one of the Championship's smallest squads.

Coventry manager Aidy Boothroyd described his side's first-half performance in the 4-1 home defeat to Bristol City as "inept and inadequate". The Sky Blues were 3-0 down at the break, with the game effectively over. Ever the optimist, Boothroyd has challenged his team to end the season strongly to try and claim a top-half finish - something the club have not achieved since 2006.

Doncaster Rovers vs Coventry City MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

• The Sky Blues have never won at Doncaster in seven previous trips. They have drawn one and lost one since Rovers' promotion to the Championship in 2008.
• City are looking to complete a first ever league 'double' over the South Yorkshire club. They won 2-1 at the Ricoh Arena last September.
• Coventry were beaten 8-1 by Doncaster in their first league visit in a Division Three (North) fixture in 1926.

Doncaster

• Despite their recent poor form, Doncaster's defeat at Leeds at the weekend is their only loss in their last four league games.
• Sean O'Driscoll's men have conceded seven goals in stoppage time - the most in the division.
• Striker Billy Sharp has scored three goals in two games.
• If selected, James Coppinger will make his 250th start for the club, and Brian Stock his 150th in the league for Rovers.

Coventry

• City have lost nine of their last 14 league games. Their only victory during this period was a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace last month.
• The Sky Blues have picked up only two points on their travels since a 2-0 win at Scunthorpe during November.
• Coventry have the worst conversion rate in the Championship with a goal scored every 11.95 attempts. That said, they have hit the woodwork on an unequalled 21 times.
• If selected, Kieren Westwood could make his 250th career league appearance, and Richard Wood the 250th appearance of his career.

I can see him dropping Clingan as well. Gunnar and Cranie work hard in midfield and it kills me to say it but I would even put Carsley back in if he was fit.

I think Eastwood and Juke up front should be given a chance after their good start to the season!

2-1 to us with Freddy getting both!

I just hope Hussey starts hes faster then O'Halloran, stronger and less prone to mistakes and has alot of potential ability wise also this will give competition for the LB slot perhaps pushing O'Halloran to prove what he can do when he gets another chance.

I can't believe it, all 4 goals (5 if you include ours) from sert pieces. Ignoring the fact we were shit and deserved to lose....

The first wasn't a foul and then from a James long punt they score

The second wasn't a foul, Bell won the ball but then more poor defending let them score

The third wasn't a pen, he'd already laid the ball off to another player who was about to shoot. This is one that really annoys me in football, if you boot the ball ahead of you so that you've no chance of getting it back, you can't fall over a challenge and claim a foul you're not on the ball any more!

Jukebox's goal was another soft free kick!

The forth, what the hell was that from Bell? 3-1 down, everyone up for an attacking freekick and he can't even get it past the first man when it should be in the air at the back post. He basically passed it to their man and they broke down the other end and scored.

Oh well, bring on donny tomorrow!!!

Be interesting to see what Lukas and Freddie will do upfront, and lets hope Westwood is fit!

Westwood (hope so)
Keogh Wood Cameron Hussey
Baker Gunnar Cranie Sheffs
Jukebox Platt

Hopefully Westwood is fit for tomorrow. He surely has to drop O'Halloran because that performance last match was terrible. McSheffery has sat on the bench long enough he's a country mile better than David Bell. Cranie and Gunnarson have looked to best midfield pair as Clingon looked like he was only 70% fit last game.

1-2 (Jukebox and Wood)

Bell should be dropped just for the free kick that lead to their 4th!
But...
Coventry have the worst conversion rate in the Championship with a goal scored every 11.95 attempts. That said, they have hit the woodwork on an unequalled 21 times.

Says it all really, but serious bad luck with the woodwork this year!

Again a lot depends on the fitness of Turner, Carsley, Platt. Assuming none of them are fit...
Quirke
Keogh Cranie Wood Hussey
Baker Gunnarson Clingan McSheffrey
Jutkiewicz Eastwood

Don't want to see Bell after the shambles of Saturday, would rather see McSheffrey come back in. If Platt is fit then i suppose there's also the option of moving either Jutkiewicz or Freddy onto the wing and keeping Gary on the bench. Would like Hussey to get the start, looked more promising than O'Halloran on Saturday.
Another call to be made is Clingan or Cameron. I still rather Cranie at CB, but we could always have him alongside Gunnar in CM with Cameron at CB.

Will be interested to see what side Aidy goes for.

I think before the game I would have been happy with a draw but as it was a last minute equaliser again it makes me a bit sad :(
