Admittedly. Hence why I am not saying that referees should be investigated directly, however it was a few years ago that the referee in the friendly between Nigeria and Argentina was accused of match fixing..

Referees have more power then a players.

South Korea's progress in 2002 was pretty shameful. Didn't that ref end up getting banged up for some other mad offence later on?

EDIT: six kilos of heroin in his pants. You'd have to explain some monster piles to get away with that.

So what are you talking about, going off on one about random shit nobody has said?

I am not going off on one. I just disagreed with your post. You don't seem to understand what you actually implied....and have tried to defend it rather poorly.

My stance is simple, anyone who does something in a game for money from an outside influence to either club is wrong and detrimental to the game.

I'd like to include Nicklas Bendtner and his Paddy Power pants in that.

I agree, they are in a real position to match fix. I am sure it has happened.
But there is a big difference between bad errors and actual deliberate decisions for personal gain.

It is bad enough being on the wrong end of human error, without someone pushing 70k in their back pocket for it.

If we end up watching games wondering if people have taken a bung....we may as well all stay at home, it would all be meaningless.

If you want to watch a "sport" free of all this stuff suggest you watch reruns of wrestling on World of Sport now there was a proper sport

Did you know that you can actually bet on WWE match outcomes with some bookies? Paddy Power's one I know of.

I guess they had bets on Eastenders storylines so it's a similar concept, but these are things already written out, it's mental.

Was the game he was accused of trying to fix not the defeat against Southampton. Dublin lobbed him after 5 minutes though he seemed to be lying on the floor at the time?

All this match fixing and bungs and backhanders just reflects society, politicians do it and only plead innocence when caught.
So we shouldn't be all shocked at it entering Football, where money is concerned people will be tempted.
It's wrong and corrupt and it stinks and the punishment should be a tough one,but you can bet pardon the pun that more names will come out soon as well.

Just interested to know, if you all knew someone was going to get sent off at a certain point in a match, would you blow the whistle to the league, or stick your mortgage on it. I'm ashamed to say my mortgage would be on it.

Can I mention Ernie Hunt?

DJ Campbell has been arrested today for match fixing.
In the papers yesterday, San Sodje was boasting that he has a network of players happy to take £70k for fixing.

I am absolutely not accusing any Coventry player of involvement - There is no evidence of it taking place. However there were a couple of incidents during a recent game where a player made such bizarre errors that the thought had crossed my mind at the time - before I knew of this latest scandal. I hope the Sky Blues are not involved at all.

I strongly advise anyone responding to this chain to avoid mentioning specific incidents or players.

I remember the game. When Dublins header went in, after I'd finished celebrating the goal I said to my cousin "it looked like he pushed that in to me". There was no doubt in my mind he was at it, regardless of the outcome of the trial.

See...maybe I'm being old-fashioned...or maybe forward thinking - but perhaps FIFA ought to ban these people from every stadium in the World, in any capacity, for these kind of indiscretions. Nip it in the bud(ish)

The only way to prevent this is to prohibit betting on sport. Drastic measure and one that will unsettle bookie and governments alike.
It won't happen of course and so regrettably mans greed will always find a way to exploit fellow mans weakness.

David Moyes is denying he was offered £1M to make sure United finished out of the top 4 this year. He said he would do it for free!

Referees in this division are awful, don't think you can really confuse their ineptitude for any kind of malicious behaviour however.

DJ Campbell (Blackburn), Sam Sodje (Portsmouth last season), Akpo Sodje (Tranmere), Ian Goodison ( Tranmere), Christian Montano (Oldham) are now among the players involved in this

What does anybody really expect?
Too much money and temptation in young people surrounded by corruption.
Look at the way our football club has been run down the years.
Look at how even the FL waive their "discretionary guidelines" when it suits them. And we point the finger at these fools as if they are the problem.
In truth they are merely a symptom of a much deeper malaise within the whole if society and all its institutions.
