Tomorrows my first trip to St Andrews, where do people drink? Where do you go? Apologies if this has been asked before.

On the way from new street you have the bull ring tavern, Hennessys, spotted dog, anchor, Kerryman, old crown, big bulls head and the last stop is the wagon and horses. By the ground you have the roost and the cricketers arms. Tried them all and nowhere has let us down yet.

Me and the mrs went in the royal George pub last week at the bottom of tilton road very cheap and friendly staff

Sounds superb. I've not been yet but love a decent pub crawl, the Ricoh is terrible in the respect

I went to the Woodman on New canal street/Curzon street. The London supporters club were also in there looking for a new base for home games. Apparently usually does decent pub food but the kitchen was closed last weekend.
Had a quick pint in the Eagle & Tun just down the road and then went to dig brew round the corner before getting to the ground for about 2:40. Big queues in the car park but cash on the gate turnstiles were quiet. Also approach St Andrew's via Coventry road as I tried to approach via St Andrew's street only to end up on the wrong side of the stadium.

As bad as it is to say, it’s a much better day out than the Ricoh. I’m still pretty sure there’s other pubs we haven’t found that we’ll try out tomorrow. Always the option of staying in the city centre and getting a taxi at half 2. Might as well make the most of a bad situation

For me Saturday games are 8:00 a.m. kickoff so it's bacon & eggs & a trip to the fridge for a cheeky beer (It's football innit)
The Ricoh is terrible in many respects.

It’s not bad to say. Amazes me how many people aren’t familiar with Birmingham which is just up the road
It’s novelty and is / feels like away games and as such is a better day out.
As you say, option of staying in the centre and getting a taxi, same in Coventry, but if you live there, that will be pretty predictable.
We could have plenty of opportunity to enjoy it

Blues fan here hope several of you are enjoying the experience and well done for being up near the top I hope to get to a game at some point.
I'd quite like the idea of Blues playing home games in Sheffield every other week for one season as I love the pubs up there but the pubs in Brum have definitely improved over the last 20 years - there was always the Anchor back in the late 1990's with it's chalkboard full of ales and it's seasonal and themed beer festivals but it isn't the pub it was sadly although still not an awful place.
Just to recommend a couple of pubs in the vicinity of Digbeth.
Lamp Tavern Barford Street is current Camra pub of the year in Brum and won it in 1997 and 1998 too
Real throwback charming tiny little pub with a proper old skool Irish landlord - half hour 25 mins brisk walk to the ground from here or £4 in an uber
To get there from New Street just walk past the Hippodrome and through the Gay Village past the pubs on Hurst Street
Spotted Dog another Irish institution - 15 mins walk to the ground from here so you could combine both pubs in a crawl - probably better than the Anchor over the last 4 years for its ale and atmosphere - they show the rugby (especially Ireland) mostly as opposed to football
Under the back of Moor Street Station is Kilder which is my favourite of the new craft pubs that have cropped up in Brum, there's also Digbrew which has been mentioned which is huge and there's all sorts of new bars opening up on that side of Digbeth under the railway arched as sadly many of the old Irish pubs on the other side of Digbeth are closing down - The White Swan has already shut.
So definitely get to the Lamp Tavern while it is still around and the Spotted Dog is being eyed up by the developers for more flats and apartments.

I’m happy to stay at the Blues ground for years. Once at the desolated hole the Ricoh its the cherry tree or casino. No decent boozers with character and it’s the back of beyond. Car parking is shyte and everything to make it a pleasurable day is missing. Wait until car park C gets a hotel where is everyone supposed to park?

Had my first day having a few drinks over there and thoroughly enjoyed it. Really pisses on the ricoh from a great height in that respect
