Didn't seem to be a lot wrong with his disallowed goal, would have been a nice confidence booster for him.

BTA, EMC & Norman Bassette all look they are capable of scoring goals.

With Wright Simms Sakamoto and Torp we have plenty of potential goal scorers on the pitch and off the bench.

He's not really been given a fair crack, he was making his first appearances in a team that was miles off it, and will have to bide his time with this new system. I'm sure he'll be a very valuable player in time. It's strange after all that's happened in the last few years we've not learnt to be more patient

I agree. Given time, I’m sure he will prove to be a good player.

Gykores hadn’t performed well before he joined us and wasn’t great for us to start with.

I think it’s fair to say that things have turned out alright for him

EMC has shown me enough in brief appearances that's he's going to be good for us
I can't wait to see him, Norman, Haji, Rudoni, Simms and Sakamoto all on at the same time
How they're all fitted in is a different matter

32 goal contributions from the wing is not a risky deal. We’re writing off a player who just needs to find his feet, the same was said about Wright and Simms this time last year.

They turned good and I believe EMC will too.

The hound has a bit of Gykores in his style of play. If he comes good he'll be some player for us.

That seems to be the Robins way.

Fitness levels between the Championship and League 1 are a different level. The way Robins likes to play also needs every player to do a specific role. On top of that the results were not going our way. Wouldn't want to hit his confidence. Now it's time for EMC to shine.

Look at last season. Simms and Wright didn't get much play time. They were brought on slowly then took the division by storm.

People need to learn to not write players off in the first 6-12 months.

Gyokeres and Hamer would’ve been written off by some in that period.

Some were happy to sell Haji Wright back to the Turkish league before last January's transfer window.
If it was up to some of our fans, we'd be playing 4-4-2 with Tavares and Biamou up front

Agreed. This year’s version of the love in for Tavares and Biamou is definitely Bassette and BTA.

I like both players, but Bassette has shown he has talent but also raw and unready to lead the line. He’s a long term option. As for BTA, there’s a player in there but he needs to get himself in the mix a bit more, he is comfortably our worst striker on xG in the league which worries me because he’s not in goal scoring positions (right kind of positioning for Wright’s goal though). His performances in the League Cup have been good though.

Simms and Wright are undisputedly our best strikers and Simms hasn’t even got going from open play yet.

In 2-3 seasons, Bassette will develop into an excellent. I love his approach to the game, he just isn’t ready to be a starter for us yet, which isn’t an insult because even Gyokeres needed time to settle in and get coached into the player he came to be. The similarities are definitely there.

What I meant was that you’d see so many posts on here and overhear fans at the game saying how much we need to start Bassette. You had people, most notably @shmmeee, saying Bassette was a better signing than Wright which is just madness for a player yet to score for us.

That wasn’t the point I was making. I highly rate both players but the amount times I seen/heard people say we need start BTA and Bassette to fix all the worlds ills became jarring. It reminded me of how people would talk up Biamou and Tavares at times.

Correct, that is going way too far. But for someone just turning 20 he looks to have much more about him than Tavares has ever shown. Likewise BTA is a clear step up from Biamou.

I think big Norm will be great, but for balance Tavares was excellent against United at Wembley and has scored which Bassette is yet to do.

Bassette has played a handful of games for us…

Too much weight is given to that Man U performance. He did well but back to the league, he’s scored 2 goals for us in however games he’s played. Frankly, if he was that good another team in the championship would’ve had him from us. The only potential suitor I’ve seen is Reading so far.

We are fortunate we have good strikers and Tavares is at the bottom of that list at present, but posters are always looking to put the knife in. He looked good on the return to the side last year after a lengthy lay-off and he was decent pre-season too. I suspect for a number of reasons that it wont happen for him here and he will need to move on, possibly not playing at this level again with already being mid 20's but that doesn't suddenly make him poor. If Bassette kicks on and does well, nobody will be more pleased than me, but to suggest a sub cameo against Boro blew them away when he missed his one on one chance and hasn't yet scored is folly. He's only 19, he will be good I'm sure, but lets not expect too much too soon.

Robins didn't want him to go as I recall, when the Reading deal fell through. He said he was relieved. If we lose a couple of strikers through injury at the same time during the season, he will be needed (even if just off the bench) and he can play wide if we switch formations. He's probably off in the summer, unless he grabs his chance when it comes and excels. Still would lime to see him down the middle in a partnership, good finisher and fastest player at the club.

I did worry that Bassette is being built up a bit too much already, but from what we've seen so far I do think he has more about him, and looking forward to seeing how he develops

Yeah, I think he'll come good. It might not be til 2nd half of the season or even next.

I think we all (including himself) would have liked to see a bit more already but the whole team was completely at sea up until 2 games ago.

If we can keep up this momentum, I'm sure he'll contribute more and more.

To be fair to Tavares, some of his goals have been excellent finishes but you don't get the feeling he would be able to lead the line as well as Norm appears at this early stage of his career at Cov and I am surprised he wasn't let go in the summer, maybe no suitors or maybe we asked too much for him if there was.

Tavares doesnt have the physicality of Norm, Gyo, Wright to lead the line as they do. He could be a great impact player as shown before. Problem is he is now so far down the pecking order. Like you im surprised he dint move to a top L1 team in the summer

I don't think a team at the top end of L1 serious about a promotion push would be in for him, completely unproven at any level really.
