Discussion in the pub post match, could EMC play a Rudoni type role at RWB when chasing a game ? Wouldn’t trust him starting a game there but struggling to see where else he would get minutes

More likely to learn how to play CAM than wingback, imo.

No he played on the right and the left for Peterborough, he hasn't been played out of position at all. He has struggled to make the step up yet, but it is early days.

Too many fans just thought he would walk into the team and rip the league up? It is a big step up and he was bought to add depth to the squad and as a player to develop. It is still early days for him.

He made the L1 team of the season, so it wasn't beyond the realms of possibility that people thought this would happen.

He’s 25 so hardly a development player and he’s played over 300 games

It's a lot of money just for depth, a player that cost that much a club like us you want to see something. He hasn't shown any promise at all

This. I’ve no issue with the signing on the face of it but if we’ve been looking for mid-20s players to develop I’d argue we were looking in the wrong pool.

Wonder where he’ll now end up. Can’t see him as a wingback so that leaves AM which I think Torp will make his role or ST where he’s got four others to compete with.

The recruitment team must pull there hair out at Robins switching the system every other year

He does give us something different. He doesn't seem to be as quick as l thought, but he is very difficult to get the ball off with his strength and close control. I don't see him as a wing back - just don't think his defending is good enough. Shame we didn't buy Harrison Burrows to continue their partnership. If the system stays as is, I think behind the front 2 would be where he would be most suited. However, now potentially behind Rudoni, Torp and Sakamoto.

He's not getting a sniff if Wright is available on the LW, and even if Wright is out or playing as a CF we're more likely to change the formation to wingbacks than play EMC.

And if we need to throw on an attacking sub, you'd think Torp, BTA, or Bassette are way ahead of him, even Allen's got more chance of minutes!

I think it's fair to say that EMC has got an awful lot of work to do to earn game time, and if we ever do see a fit Raphael then EMC's chances are lower than a flat snakes ball sack.

I'm assuming EMC has been taken out of the firing line to protect him but also to work hard on him in training. The guys got the stats and assets to be a great player for us but sometimes when a team is struggling, it's not the best time to try and build up confidence for a player making a step up.

Don't write him off yet. We've signed him for the long term not the first quarter of the season

Exactly. He has only started 4 Championship matches. He has adapted from non-league to League 1; so he needs some time to take it up a level. He showed against Blackburn that he can cause teams problems.
Probably needs that first goal to give him more confidence. You could see the delight for him the other players had with his assist.

There is a subtle difference between a development player and developing a player. Something I suspect was outside your skill set as a manager based on your posts on here?

I think right now the aim is to get some confidence back in the squad. Some solid performances and good results are the priority.

EMC has come in and hasn't done anything as of yet, and with our start being a poor one, there isn't any room to be giving chances, we need to win games of football first, the boy is with us for 3/4 years there's plenty of time for him to adapt.

Completely agree and on top of that we have been crying out to replace players before we sell them. I imagine Wright may be off at the end of the season if we are not promoted and if we can get £10-20 mill (dependant on his season this year, off the back of a decent season last year, more international experience, at a prime age and with years left on his contract) and not have to replace his position as a starter because emc steps up we have that money for a backup and elsewhere in the squad!

Add in a big Gyokeres/Hamer move(s) and we have some decent money to spend next summer without mve or sheaf moving on...

How can you develop someone at 25 when your view is to increase his value for sale when you have already spent a considerable amount?

If someone worked for me and was given a significant oay rise I wouldn’t be asking him to do the photocopying.

As usual your arguments are sensational, but all over the place. Of course you can develop players at 25.

Look at players that have left us and teams felt they could develop them past 25 years old.
Maddison (I know he was younger when he left us, but several transfers later teams felt he still had development).
Gyokeres
Hamer
O'Hare

As for photocopying, that is such a 1970's Punk Fanzine production model?

Mason Clark is 25. His value isn’t increasing unless he plays and has an impact.

He’s a strange hill to die on and as for sensationalism the comparisons are are rather odd as we paid more for him than all of them put together.

As you go up the leagues you pay more for players, just a fact of the market.

Anyway back to my original point, fans were expecting too much from him regardless of the fee we paid and I suspect over paid. But time we must give him now he is on board.

He was brilliant against Everton in preseason.

Did well in the set up of the goal for BTA the other week also. He has all the attributes to be a great player for us, he just needs time to settle and not worry that a player that scored 19 goals last season (Haji) is in his preferred place in the line up ahead of him.

He’ll get plenty of chances to contribute across the season, and I think if he’d scored a couple of the chances he unfortunately missed he wouldn’t be getting the negative press from some of our fans.

Probably the same place as Sakamoto or as a replacement for Haji. Despite primarily being a ST, there were times on Saturday where he operated in wider channels - something similar to his inside forward role in a 4-2-3-1.

Scraping the barrel a bit there.

The biggest thing for me is he doesn’t seem that quick. And when we’ve not been dominating possession or territory it leaves him in an awkward spot as a winger.

If you were expecting Kevin Gallagher you obviously never watched him at Peterborough?

He was more a robust wide player, with a little bit of pace who put crosses in.

We shopped at Poundland, and spent 4 million odd pounds on a “punt”, who by all metrics, did really well in League One last season? Strange analogy

Our fans: We need to stop scrimping and invest in the squad, we need more depth – the squad is too small

Also our fans: Why have we got a player worth £4m on the bench? What a waste of funds

People aren't concerned about having a £4m player on the bench, they're concerned that we paid £4m for a player who doesn't look like he's worth anywhere near that much.

I'm not writing him off but it's definitely concerning.
