Is he just your bang average league 1 keeper or one of the main reasons for our success this season?

Watched some of the championship keepers mistakes last night. Can’t think of a goal he’s caused through his keeping mistakes this year. Think he’s possibly set up a few with being too overconfident with his passing from the back but overall so so impressed

He’s good and has proved to be an excellent signing his distribution throw or kick is also excellent, can only think of a couple of bloopers to be fair, but has more than made that up with some super saves at vital times too.

Think the difference is the confidence he brings to the defence - with Burge he was always a disaster waiting to happen.

the way we play out from the back is always going to lead to mistakes at this level. But when it happens for Marosi you’ll be shocked - that’s the major difference this season

He made a few rickets early in the season, but the last few weeks he's been great.
As L1 keepers go, he's currently one of the best.

The bloke he replaced that many on here would do backflips trying to defend was your bang average League One keeper.

I was one of the defenders of Burge and thought we should keep him but I was so wrong. Marosi is another level in every aspect.

Far better than Burge (not that that's difficult)
But he has got to be worth at least an extra 6 points so far this season.

Definitely an upgrade, but time to move on regarding burge. I think he did his best when here, was selected by a number of managers, so was (probably) best we had at the time. Came through our academy, so no real cost and a boost to our reputation as another player we have developed.
Wish him well as an ex-player, but focusing on our current players!

I have a feeling that Oggy chose retirement over the sack in the summer as MR wanted to move in a different direction with the keepers.

Never really thought about that but makes sense. Especially as Oggy still spends every Saturday watching us.

it dawned on me yesterday, watching a game in very difficult conditions, how relaxed I was when the ball went anywhere near Marosi.
Think I'd have been having heart palpitations if we still had Burge.
But as Somersetskyblue says, Burge did his best for us, time to move on.

All keepers make mistakes, especially at this level. The difference with Marosi compared to Burge is you're not expecting an absolute clanger everytime he has to do something basic.

Fab reliable keeper. Great save he made yesterday at 2-1. I suspect he is not entirely confident at crosses and decides to stay on his line..... which makes sense.

He had a shaky start, and was at fault for 3 or so goals at the start of the season (2 v Pompey stand out in my mind) but he has been great for the last 15 or so games.

I will say though that he definitely has less to do compared to Burge, our defence is much stronger and we definitely concede less shots on target. There's been a number of games where he's had practically nothing to do. (that's not a criticism of him, but praising the defence).

Don't you think the confidence in the keeper plays a part?

It all does, McFadzean has really upped his game and all 3 centre backs seem to be on the same wavelength.

We haven't missed Willis at all, I'd go as far as saying he wouldn't get on the side now, as he's nowhere near as good bringing the ball out of defence as the 3 we've got.

The way he plays the ball is brilliant, instrumental to the way we play. There can't be many keepers in this division who are able to do it like he does. What a signing

I wonder if Willis regrets leaving. Personally, I think he’d be perfect in our current setup!

Rose, Hyam and McFad all looked really good yesterday barring the occasional little mistake. Playing 3 at the back seems to help us play from the back too, so it’s a well suited system for us.

Not particularly, we had the 9th best defence last season, we’re currently 8th based on goals conceded.

I prefer Marosi, and he’s less error prone and better on the ball, which is important for how we want to play. Based on the stats, we’re not much different as a defensive unit compared to last season. It’s also worth noting that we play with 3 centre backs and wing backs - so you’d probably expect we’d concede less with an extra defender.

8th best defence based on goals conceded - 8 of the 25 have been penalties, the same number as all of last season.

If Willis would have stayed we wouldn't have signed McFadz considering Rose was already on his way. I think we'd maybe still be a bit naive at the back without his leadership so may actually be better without him.

I said this to my son on the way back yesterday. At the moment we look the more likely club for promotion. I am well aware that this can and might change. I suppose the increase in wages will be a compensation for him.

All successful teams have had a solid back line (which includes the keeper) so yes, he is making a difference and adding to our success.
There’s games where he’s had nothing much to do but when he does, he does it well.

Willis can fuck off. Like him as a player and the pace he brings, but the whole “I want to go somewhere bigger” then going to a team further down the division plus the fact he waited to run his contract down until after we’d get no compensation leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Just feel that when a club has developed you you pay something back either through reputation by going higher or through cash.
