Seems like this ones done then. Immense signing. Some comments from a kiwi:

"Plays a lot like Busquets. Very comfortable and composed on the ball, bit of flair, and has brilliant aggression + interceptive instincts. Tall and physical. Fantastic passing range and vision, and a good touch/dribbling ability. Prone to a yellow card, and while he can and does carry the ball forward with confidence, he shits himself a bit when forced to make a decision in the final third and often fluffs the final ball. Not a goal threat, can't hit a barn door right now

He's played a different position basically every season of his career - can stick him at CB, DM, CM and AM without too many issues - but due to this, I and many CZ fans feel we don't actually know his best position yet. I think there's a great box-to-box in him, but he's often been deployed very deep as either a lone DM or as part of a DM partnership. Had an absolutely unbelievable preseason + first few months this season, looked like one of the best DM prospects in his age range on the planet, but slowed down a lot as the season dragged on

Absolutely immense potential, maybe the best prospect I've ever seen come out of New Zealand"

Love this sort of link, Imagine adding Stamenic to what we have, we'd be so strong next season.

Really hope we hold onto to Sheaf for one more season, his value to us in the sense of quality and stability would surely outweigh the difference between selling now or at the end of next season?

Not even sure another 12 months would effect his value that much. Most of the sales we have made recently have been when the player has 1 year left. Yes he is a bit older than Hamer and Vik but another good season with us he would still be in demand.

I think if we sign BOTH Stamenic and Browne then that has to be Sheaf on his way.

Not necessarily just one though, we could be using money from the cup run and any residual money from the Hamer deal to fund this one. Especially if the fee is heavily weighted towards add ons and a big 'if we get promoted' bonus. Plus, as other people have mentioned, I don't think Doug will be averse to splashing out on acquiring players like this, who at 22, essentially becomes a financial asset once Robins and Adi work their magic on them.

He's younger than Hamer by a year and only a few months older than vik

I don’t think it necessarily means the end of sheaf. As someone pointed out I do believe king is ready to invest on transfer fees if he can see good value in them and by the sounds of it this lad fits the bill of someone who has a high ceiling.

I hope it’s seeing a clear shift to a 4-2-3-1 formation as that would be exciting if so. Sheaf and Stamenic playing the 2 with wright/emc and saka/rafa on the wings and choosing between an Eccles/torp or palmer/windass (or another am) depending on the opponents with simms up top.

sounds like DM to me, with a license to carry the ball forward.
not overly worried about his lack of shooting ability. there will be bods ahead of him who can do that. and anyway, if we all scream SHOOT at him i'm sure his aim will improve.

I feel with Sheaf its going to be down to whether he wants to go or whether we can persuade him to stay 1 more season. Like others have said i dont think there will be much difference between selling him this summer or next

didn't the accounts show £6m was left from recent sales?
it could have just been "resting" in doug's account...

Did they? They only go up to May 31 2023 so how would they show that?

I think it’ll come down to if there’s interest from the PL. if there is well probably get £15m like Hamer, if it’s Luton in at £8m he’ll stay.

yep - i imagine he will push for a move to the prem and if so we are unlikely to stand in his way. Absolutely no way he ends up at another team in this league imo

A lot of the articles refer to us as ‘FA cup semi finalists Coventry City’. The cup run has done wonders for our reputation around the globe.

Yeah, as it won't make much difference fee wise, we really should try and keep him for one more season. It seems like everything has been building to this season and having a real good go with a fully adept squad. And as Sheaf has been integral to the journey so far, it would be good to have him with us to give it one more season.

Only thing that goes against that is if, for the bigger picture, it's better for us to sell him to bring in funds to add 3 quality players throughout the squad - and Vik doesn't leave anytime soon.

Either way, I trust Robins to do what's best for the team, he's spinning plates with a few external factors outside of his control (Vik going early, Sheaf wanting to go/someone offering silly money for him or another), but I feel if it all goes relatively to Robins' plan, then we'll have a real good go at it next season!

I love Sheafo but if we get £12mill for him and replace him with Browne and Stamenic for £4mill that's good business in my eyes.

Good business? What Doug pocketing 8 million while we get an inferior player. If the club keep cashing in on players and replacing them bargains people will give in bothering to go. Merchandising and ticket sales are through the roof we should be spending at least what we’re getting in.

Fair, I honestly thought he a was a bit older, but either way I mangled what I meant, if we hold on to him for another season he'll be older than Vik and Gus were when we sold them. 27 for a midfielder is about prime age really and I doubt whoever would be interested would be thinking about resale value down the line anyway

I doubt clubs spend everything they receive in transfer fees. Sometimes there are obviously other costs in running the club.

He's already turned down a move to Luton for a much bigger fee and I don't think he'll go to a club he considers relegation fodder like Gus did either but if the right offer comes in and the club are happy with the fee he's gone

I don’t think he’ll care. It’s about the level of opposition and the chance to prove yourself mostly. If one of the newly promoted sides comes up with £15m I expect him to be off.

Does show just how fucked football is that a Championship side are able to sign a first team player for a team who competed in the Champions League group stages last season tbf. Not that I’m complaining in this one instance…

Well it all depends on his definition of relegation fodder though I expect the 3 that went up to have more of a chance than last years trio, point deduction depending in the case of that mob.
