For once I approve, seems to not be adverse to trying a risky pass and has good interceptions, plus he’s not another small player, ticks all the boxes.

Funny isn’t, only a month ago everyone was banging on about how amazing Alan Browne would be and now we sign this geezer and everyone’s dropped Browne like a sack of shit This is the sort of player I like to see us signing though, someone that seems to have a bit of flair and skill rather than a player that’s ageing and has been round the block multiple times.

Alan Browne is 29, he’s not aging and he would compliment what we already have

The guy in the thread mentions Ben Old moving to Europe too, who was the one who stood out to me when I started looking at A-League. Someone will do well to pick him up now while he's still in that league and therefore relatively cheap.

Scored against Newcastle too in their 8-0 drubbing.

Maybe Josh Eccles might be moved on?

Imagine this guy in a midfield with Sheaf and Browne next season 4-3-3 our defensive stats would improve exponentially!

If Sheaf is off elsewhere then the assumption is that will be funds left over to strengthen elsewhere. I wonder in this case whether Browne still joins Cov

Just shows that the ‘ITKs’ know fuck all about the actual big transfers we make. Not a peep about this, MvE, Wright, Sakamoto, Torp, Simms etc. until they broke in the press.

Browne is a different player to him amd what we’ve got, he’s scored goals from midfield, and more high energy very tenacious and a clear leader

I don't have concrete evidence but I actually think this one is a goer.

It’s got all the hallmarks of a goer TBF.

He is a bit though, not exactly youthful in a footballing sense. I get that it’s a balance of experience vs potential but I personally think 29 is just a bit too past it if we’re signing on a 3-4 year deal.

Always thought since our championship return our midfield has been a bit lightweight, hopefully Marko and Browne will change this.

The cynic in me suggests this is to replace and not supplement Sheaf

Let's hope he is staying. This lad with Sheaf and Browne has the hallmarks of a top 2 midfield 3. This ad would release Sheaf to be more advanced and Browne naturally is a high energy box to box player. If we're chasing a game we have Palmer to come on for one of those 3 midfielders to make us more attacking.
Torp and Eccles or Allen (one would need to be sold) would then be back up.

Not you specifically but if we want to win promote we need not to lose our best players.

And another thing...if/when this comes off, it'll dispell the myth that incoming would only be made on the basis of Sheaf going or Viks sell on.

Yes, either might happen but Doug won't be saying to clubs...yeah we'll pay you when we sell one of our other players.

There's money in the kitty.

I agree completely. That midfield trio would be second to none in this league with plenty of depth as back up . Certainly potentially very exciting times.

I’m not sure this is to replace Sheaf, there is no pressing reason to sell him, he has 2 years left, have a big go next year and he will be worth just as much come next summer… or in the PL with us, with the armband. Stamenic, Sheaf and Browne in the midfield 3 will be too much for most teams.

We won’t be in such a strong position to negotiate if he only has a year left on his contract.

Someone in the scouting team has hit ‘Oceania’ in the Championship Manager search engine. Looks like an Australia and NZ raid this summer

Fair enough, we all have our own personal views on things, and I’m not saying yours is right or wrong. At the end of the day I just want the best squad possible and I’m not convinced Browne is the best we can do. Ideally someone around 26-27 that has a bit of experience, it’s around 6ft, has vision and can shoot is all I ask for. Browne is just a few years too old for my liking

We didn’t have that much trouble with Vik or Gus, we will be able to negotiate just fine.

The point is that we won’t be in a position to maximise the value as much as you could do this summer.

Wonder if we’re worried about another Hamer situation where we get a last minute bid. If he was off soon I’d have expected a lot more transfer talk than a weak Luton link.

Two holding midfielders who would normally be expected to be in the first team seems unlikely, so the assumption has to be that Sheaf is off. In which case we should be making a profit, and hopefully an upgrade

I had wondered this myself, what’s with all the Aus/NZ moves? Also does anyone know how the transfer window works over there? I thought we could only sign players after the window opens over here on 14th June?

I remember listening to the Brighton CEO a year or so ago. He said they always try to plan a couple transfer windows ahead. So in this case they would know Sheaf will be sold by next summer, so have a ready made replacement in now to give them a year to develop before they take that key role

Ah yeah I forgot he’s not playing for an NZ club Either way how do we go about securing a player before the window opens? Can you sign like a pre-contract contract or something?

No criticism just we'll need to overcome that like we did a few of the squad this season!
