Only slight concern with this Kiwi lad - I think he’s involved in Olympic Games - so wouldn’t join up at best until just before start of season. Which is shame for bedding in point of view.

My only agenda is to assess things as objectively as I can …. I don’t always get that right but that’s my agenda.

You mainly share negative snippets which means either your mate as a negative agenda or you do.

I understood that under the SiSU regime but it’s less obvious now as to why either would run that agenda ….

Done deal?

Like with Paulsen, we’ll await the actual confirmation but it seems like this is going ahead. For Red Star, it was simply too good of a deal to turn down for a player they signed for free one year ago and who was an important player but not an integral one in their League and Cup double this past season. For Stamenic, it’ll mean no Champions League football next season though it should mean a payrise befitting that fee (lots of money in the English game) as well as the chance to play in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.

That fee, by the way, would make him the second most expensive kiwi footballer ever, surpassing the £3.8m fee that West Ham paid for Winston Reid once upon a time (that works out to around €4.5m based on the current conversion rates). You can have three guesses as to who number one is and if you guess Chris Wood three times then you’re correct - he’s gone for at least triple this fee on three separate occasions. Leeds to Burnley (£15m), Burnley to Newcastle (£25m), and Newcastle to Nottingham Forest (£15m). That Premier League money is wild, mate.

Stamenic played 35 times for Crvena zvezda across all competitions, with two goals and one assist. Coventry were ninth in the Champo last season but them getting in quickly with a relatively expensive deal like this suggests they’re not intending on going backwards. If Stamenic can win another league and cup double in another different country for the third season in a row then we’re moving beyond special and into the mythological realms.

He is at copa america. Their last group game isn't til 2nd July then he would get rest after that. Looking et the end of July before he is back playing for us realistically

Even if we go back to a million here or there I'll still be fine with it. The quality of free transfers we would get now will have increased massively and we are fishing in different ponds to the ones we have a few years ago. I do think people who want us to spunk 10's of millions will be disappointed unless we sell or gyok moves. We have short memories at one point we'd have been blown away by spending a million.

Personally I disagree, we’re in £6 mil profit from last season I think? We never got a proper Hamer replacement last season and I assume Stamenic is that replacement, so realistically we’re back to where we started in terms of midfield quality, especially after losing Kelly. We’re also really light on bench quality, at times it’s full of youth players, and we’ve seen what happens when a key player like Sakamoto or Sheaf gets injured.

We’re in a great position right now, will we still be selling almost 20,000 season tickets in 5 years time if we have little investment in the team? I doubt it and I assume Doug knows that. We’re so close to getting in the prem and the players/fans are all on board with the way the club’s going, I firmly believe the time is now when it comes to making marquee signings.

Thought more mid July. He has just had month off also.

selfishly would be better for us if not picked for final squad, so he can have good pre season with us.

I don't think it's as much as 6. Stamenic would probably take our spending to around level with what we received last year.

I suspect any more significant purchases will have to be funded by a sale, or Vik moving (which currently looks unlikely).

The summer is a tough gig for Andy Turner when his sole job is to report on the club. Basically nothing happens in May and June and no one is around. He probably has to do 3-4 stories a day for the website. He gets some moronic comments on twitter.

He's been in the job about 20+ years and has probably worked with Robins for 8 of those. Any info he is privy to on transfers it's not in his interests to run an 'exclusive' and betray the trust from the club. What he does do is pour cold water on internet rubbish. His article on Stamenic you can clearly see what he's saying and he's hinting at it - there has been no U-turn on what he's saying.

Turner is an easy target, but what he's said in the last couple of days is perfectly sensible unless people twist and misrepresent it. He's obviously got to maintain a relationship with the Club, at the same time as trying to compete with the endless torrent of stuff on social media, and if you use your brain you can see anything he writes in that context. If there's an underlying theme of the club managing expectations through the local press, that's fine by me and I still find some of the CT output useful and credible if I can battle my way through the distracting website.

There was a time when the Cov Tel was a big part of the experience of following the Sky Blues. Wow, the excitement of standing outside the local shop waiting for a bundle of Pinks to be chucked on the pavement from a van at 6pm on a Saturday! Now the web has given the entire world population a free hand to broadcast whatever they want all day long, journalists have to grovel for attention, and the ones whose careers started in a different world must find it tough.

If it's affordable yes, we talk about making £6m profit but if that goes against the £6m loss we made then it isn't actually profit. I know a lot of people will think Doug should cover that but I doubt that is realistic in the long term year after year. The last thing I'd want as a club is to find ourselves back having to sell talent for less than it's worth to make ends meet and starting a downward spiral. I'd much rather really sensible reinvestment than boom and bust.

Difference is there’s not betraying the clubs trust and Andy turner - he actively came out and said the report we’re buying him is wide of the mark despite multiple worldwide sources suggesting otherwise.

Don’t break exclusive info that’s fine. Don’t claim it’s false so you can wait a few days to release it and claim it’s exclusive

We received £32m for Gyokeres and Hamer:

MVE £3.5m
Saka £1.2m
Simms £3.5m
Wright £7.7m
Kitching £4m
Thomas £2m
Torp £2m
EMC £5m
Collins £0.6m
£30.5m

Plus undisclosed signing on fees + agents fees. I'd say that the money has long gone.

To be fair, the last 2 seasons ticket revenue and PO and Cup runs will have added a few million into the mix.

Well done for breaking it down like that though...I thought we'd still have some Hamer money left over but looking at your breakdown, looks like that's not the case.

That said, I'm pretty confident this signing is happening and there'll be more through the door this summer.

You know how you can not betray the trust of the club and still write exclusives?

By not letting them be the only source of your information! Like every other decent sports journalist in the country.

This forum has had more CCFC exclusives in the past year than Turner has had in the past 5. That shouldn’t be happening.

I used to wait outside the Telegraph office in Corporation Street when I couldn't get to away games, to get the Pink hot off the press. I'm sure I remember standing outside the office looking through the window when away evening games I couldn't get to were being played. I can't remember exactly how, but we got score updates. This must have been before C&W radio transmission.

Your figures look right tbf but I’m sure I read somewhere that we were £5-6 mil in profit, and I’m sure it was something fairly reputable like the BBC or Sky, not some random Twitter account. Maybe EMC is the extra £5 mil I’ve missed out?

Either way, I think for once that “the time is now” when it comes to big transfers. Everything is lined up for us to have a proper crack at automatics, but the squad just needs some improvements. The keeper situation is shit, need better midfielders both on and off the bench and need a new CB, maybe even new LB as backup for Bidwell, I’m not sold on Dasilva tbh.

I get what you mean but I’m just massively sold on us going for it this year and spending a fair bit. Not completely overcommitting, like we obviously shouldn’t be spending £15+ mil when we haven’t got it but we definitely need a new keeper, midfielders and a CB, and I’d like us to add a bit of depth to the bench tbh.

I think 4 signings at an average of £2-3 mil each isn’t a lot to ask for tbh, especially if we’ve got a few million in profit from last season. If we’re ever going to get into the prem then we need the quality and depth in order to get there.

Actually, our form has been much improved across the last two seasons in the three spells where Sheaf has been injured. I'm not sure why people keep blindly peddling this myth, or have dedicated half the thread about another player towards him instead.

I actually agree with you tbh, I only mentioned Sheaf because some people get upset if you say anything bad about him I think he’s consistent and has a bit of quality about him but he’s no Hamer and if we got £12-£15 mil then I’d rather us reinvest that than keep him. I think players like Eccles and Allen should be the first to be replaced and maybe look for MVE 2.0 on the left wing. Our midfield is the weakest area of the pitch in my opinion, followed by our keeper situation.

I think Andy is a good guy.

I personally think Andy misses the point on where he / Cov Tele can add value to City fans / readers.

I no longer expect him to break transfer news but I do think he can provide the City insights that other media outlets would not be interested in producing.

I loved the interviews with Adi and found them really interesting. I’d love to know more about HOW our recruitment process works now it’s moved from domestic to global …. We have a new COO from Notts Forest … what are his first impressions, big challenges, what did he learn from Forests promotion to the Premier League etc etc

None of this is sensitive or puts our transfer targets at risk but it gives us fans a new insight into the club

With Saddle and others, I think it’s scepticism that’s gone a bit OTT at times. We’re all collectively scarred and mistrusting of owners after the SISU experience. On one had you had near hero-worship with the song he has and on the other, you’ve got some people framing things in there least charitable way.

It’s rational because it all came out of nowhere. Yet, last year he could’ve easily sold the Crown Jewels and did a runner. To me, there’s a long term plan and strategy and overall he’s doing a good job. He’s made some unpopular, but ultimately, correct decisions.

I don't agree with this. I'd say our defence is the weakest area. We constantly concede and have to chase games by out scoring our opponents. I don't think much of the two centre backs and Bidwell probably the best of an average bunch.
I'd be looking for a quality keeper and centre half and take it from there.

Actually, our form has been much improved across the last two seasons in the three spells where Sheaf has been injured. I'm not sure why people keep blindly peddling this myth, or have dedicated half the thread about another player towards him instead.

If there really is a big money offer, then that cash would be better invested. I'll die on the hill that we will do better next season.

I agree. Whilst Sheaf has been consistently good he's by no means irreplaceable. A Sheaf sale for £12-£15M , Browne on a free with the Kiwi and there's plenty of cash left over to strengthen the other areas on the pitch needing attention. Any Vik sale thereafter is then just a massive bonus.
