You know when we’ve played well as a team when yesterday there were so many candidates for MOM, literally 5 of them could have got it yesterday. Personally for me I said Grimes , probably under the radar but I just felt he was like the Basketball player who brings the ball out and makes the pass to start the attack - the general as such. I thought he was absolutely brilliant yesterday.

His awareness of the role is superb. He is like a master chess player, the way he thinks a step ahead in his positioning.

Difficult one as second half was a half paced training exercise. I’d have gone Eccles just because it was his first game back in.

He has impressed me in the last two games. Very good on the press. It will be interesting to see how he does covering the CAM role. Maybe when his match fitness is up, he may revert to an 8, and swap with Torp. Hopefully, Rudoni will be back soon though.

Not a bad shout. I can't remember him putting a foot wrong.

To be honest, I thought we'd struggle yesterday with Rudoni out, but we dominated their midfield, and a lot of that was down to the energy Eccles brought.

It's great to see him playing well, it could be he's another player that's really benefitting from FL's knowledge of that position.

I feel similar! I can't remember one player making other players look so much better.

MVE is just a super footballer. Was excellent again yesterday.
Dasilva stood out for me
Grimes was Grimes but think the two above edge it over him.
I'd therefore say Dasilva over MVE by the amount the ball crossed the line for the second.

JDS for me yesterday. Was faultless. His 1v1 defending was excellent.

Grimes fools half the crowd before he receives the ball, so christ knows what he is like to chase him around for 90 odds mins. His decision making is awesome and slowly getting his name up as one of best signings in recent years

If only we'd have signed Matty Grimes 3 years ago.

Credit to Simms, his cameo was very good. I'd like to see him start at Millwall with Wright out wide.
MOM is difficult. DeSilva had a great game for him and hope he can maintain that standard, so did Eccles who did what was asked of him. But for me Torp has been terrific. MOM goes to him on the fact his positioning and awareness that gets him goals. Had Wright stepped out the way Torp would have had a brace yesterday. Reading the game and being in the right place at the right time reminds me of our managers playing days. Both Torp and Rudoni seem to have aquired that particular trait.

I give the award to Davies for the amazing way he had his side play against us. The only reason we won was they shouldn't have got the red card and half of our side should have been sent off for constantly kicking the ball away.

Davies for England

Not for me. I'm a dinosaur and will never change no matter who preaches to me.

The word is 'match'

BTA for me. Superb pressing and attidude and scored too. JDS a close second.
As for MVE, he doesn't need credit for MoM as we already know he's a top top player.

Couldn't agree more. My post to a colleague from Teams chat earlier:

"Quarterback, just said the same to Matt and Stu. All banter apart, he bossed the tempo again. So composed, never seen a footballer like him in our ranks tbh. I do think he's limited if we did step up, but at this level he's the best signing we've made in many years."

Would probably even go as far as to say McAllister without goals, which is high praise indeed as one of my favourite ever City players.

At the start I got frustrated with JDS drifting infield instead of overlapping but as the game went on I thought he was excellent.

Agree.
I used to love watching Gary McAllister. Always received the ball in space he'd made for himself. Rarely got tackled because he used the ball before anyone got to him.
Grimes has a lot of the same attributes, its a joy to watch him dictate the pace of the game.

One of the most advantageous effects he has is that he stops the CH’s having to play so many passes. Our ball retention has improved just due to that.
