I don't think Malaka's info said that Red Bull wanted the Freehold to Ricoh hence my question to him.
Unless I missed a further update explaining that.
He just said the investor wanted us and Wasps but the council are asking for too much.

The only thing the council own is the freehold so if the potential buyer was talking to the council and the response came back that they were asking too much then it must be the freehold.

Didn't go back in to check for a reply in the other thread, but don't they still own Car Park C?

Mate if you do get a chance to ask anything.
Would you mind asking how it is supposed to be the council causing the issue.
The only way I could see it having anything to do with them would be if Red Bull wanted the actual Freehold for the Ricoh.
Otherwise I can't see how the Council can be involved?
Cheers

Thanks
Then if it turns out there is any truth in the rumour then the council needs their arses tanning if they block a move like that.
Football club and Wasps under one company at the Ricoh is the only solution to this mess that may make any sense

Agreed. Obviously we don't know what was offered, but on the face of it seems like a great deal for the city. Feelings about Sisu were well known and there's a fair argument for cock blocking them after their history, but any RB deal (should it actually exist) should be down to fans to reject. You'd have to think that RB running the Ricoh could only be good for the Coventry. IIRC they've made their investment back from the Wasps sale, so it shouldn't cost anything.

I can see a Labour council having issues with franchising and sponsorship heavy deals though, but as I say it's for the fans to decide that.

It can't be true Malaka. Our glorious council are going to bend over backwards to help any potential new owners apparently!!

But don't you yourself say that a 250 year lease is the same as having the Freehold.
So if Redbull bought Wasps would they also get the 250 year leasehold.
Or do they still have to pay the council something to inherit that Lease

Would owning the freehold help with any plans for future development of the site ?

Would guess so, surely if it's a lease like Wasps have they can't do too much without the councils permission?

In theory, if freehold they could flatten it couldn't they?

Do what they like. Though as Sisu have shown, you'd be pretty silly to do anything other than have a sports stadium there because there's nowhere else to put one.

Couldn't they flatten it anyway as long as there's planning permission for the redevelopment? CCC own the freehold at the BPA don't they? The lease holder is the redeveloper there why would the Ricoh be any different?

I don't know what would be the purpose of flattening it as its unsuitable for residential due to residual contamination, may be suitable for more retail I guess.

It was just an example, if it was the lease surely you still need to get permission from the free hold owner?

I don't see the point either especially as they're supposed to have purchased two sports teams at the same time to play in it. Maybe it will be development to increase capacity. We are the most fickle fans in the country after all, so I'm told . When we're top of the premier league and playing in the champions league we'll all come flooding back and 32K won't be big enough

Before people descend into mouth foaming, this is a rumour of a rumour on an Internet forum, that Red Bull themselves deny completely and have said for months they aren't interested in English clubs (which considering our stricter rules on changing club identity is understandable).

Also Ms Lucas hasn't been leader for a while.

Nick said:

Would be covered under commercial confidentiality. If Red Bull don't want anyone knowing (and they clearly don't or they'd have told rumpo ) then CCC couldn't release info because of FOI. It's not a magic wand unfortunately.

If their really is any truth in the RB rumours, I always worry that the social media meltdown
And the subsequent searching for answers will scare them off.

Anything happening.
I think I'm gonna put my fingers in my ears and sing Kylie's "I Should Be So Lucky" over

Me too. Either something good will happen one day or it won’t. We probably can’t influence it either way, but trying to force information out into the open could conceivably spook a genuine investor who wanted to do things on the quiet.

Thanks to you, I can’t get Kylie out of my head ...

Yes,
The council could sell freehold with caveats in place to protect future use though.

Whats the saying desperate times call for desperate measures !
We are likely to be relegated to fourth tier Sisu are only taking us one way.
Obviously we are a bit more clued up now and anything dodgy in terms of a takeover we would spot a mile off.
But if it was RB they are a professional company. I'm more worried if the club are not taken over to be honest.
