Newsnight 'breached BBC impartiality guidelines'

Wow was absolutely impartial as it reflected a broad spectrum of opinion across all political standpoints

Being reported that pressure was put on the BBC directly by the government and the Newsnight staff are furious.

What a banana republic this place is turning into. She probably overstepped the mark, this punishment is way out of proportion though.

Are we living in some sort of dictatorship now? The government seem unanswerable to the people and anyone who questions them is removed.

Out of interest what was Kuenssberg's punishment when her reporting on Corbyn was found to have breached impartiality and accuracy guidelines?

Oh it would definitely have come from the government.

Remember these people threatened to cancel Channel 4's license just because they didn't agree with something they put out.

These clowns would have state owned media if they could to pump out 24/7 praise of Johnson!

Technically she broke the rules and technically Kuenssberg didn't when the Cummings stuff broke.
But I know which was by far the worse piece of journalism and I know who should be getting booted.

No you’ve just admitted your political bias has led you to an illogical conclusion

No. I admit Maitlis broke the rules.
But Kuenssberg is a senior journalist. Her performance when the Cummings story broke was abysmal.

I'm sure Maitlis will learn from this but Keuunssberg will never be a decent journalist.
Kuenssberg is basically Gilbert at a national broadcaster.

The funny thing about this is that if she had have opened the show by saying good evening welcome to news night Boris Johnson is both a racist and a liar the BBC couldn’t have done a thing about it because the BBC’s charter acknowledges that he is both those things.

We also had a Tory MP tell a blatant lie on TV today (not an.unusual.occurence admittedly) yet there is nothing holding them to account.

The frustrating thing is she could have framed it slightly differently and it would have been completely water tight. Instead of “the public” it could have been “many people” or “polls suggest”.

She says she wasn't dropped and asked for a night off. Her editor also backs this. Probably no conspiracy here folks.

The new presenter tweeted that she would not have took the slot if Maitlis had been removed and then Maitlis came out with this.
You could be right but it could also be a bit of coordinated PR.

Are you denying Russian social media interference?
If so what is your explanation for the cross party Senate report that confirmed Russian interference in the 2016 US election and uncovered evidence of Russian interference in the Polish and Ukranian elections and evidence that Russia intends to try interfering in the 2020 US election?

I'd love to hear why you think the US security service, the Republican party and the Democratic party colluded to make such a report if it's not true.

Must say the BBC have a very flexible leave policy for its presenters.

Indeed....but still way more likely than some shadowy spook holding a gun to the head of at least 4 senior BBC newsnight presenters, editors & producers don't you think....

This government is shambolic, incompetent & chaotic in nearly all that it does......yet some believe they can suddenly get their shit together in quick enough time & co-ordinate a full Newsnight reshuffle & gagging order....Okay then....

Although she could have used better terminology from 'the public' I fail to see what is impartial about that. It deals in facts. Government were given the opportunity to respond and didn't take it by not making anyone available.

So from now on it seems the best way to do things is refuse to answer questions and then claim it wasn't impartial because you've not responded.

Also amazing that they can make a decision that quickly about impartiality when these complaints usually take weeks or months.

Still, lefty BBC bias eh?

Seen a couple of journalists for other papers / channels flag this up. From what I have read seems the BBCs own procedures for handling complaints got completely thrown out of the window.

Is the Editor of Newsnight really called Katie Razzall? I think i saw a few magazines edited by her when i was younger. Clearly changed the spelling of her surname by deed poll though!

So now that Durham police have found Cummings DID break lockdown, does that mean the BBC will retract their apology?
