Don’t really feel this deserves it’s own thread but really didn’t know which thread it would be relevant in so here we are…

I remember we have a clause in the Maddison deal that we get a certain amount once he plays for England but my understanding from it way back was that he has to start a game for England.

Does anybody remember what the clause was and how much we would be due?

Might have also been a competition match and not just a friendly but I really can’t remember and hope someone could share

P.S, he really deserves to go to the World Cup and it would be absolute robbery if he doesn’t. Right now he should have Grealish’s place for sure

Southgate thinks he has an attitude problem and will keep picking his favourites even though he says he picks on form.

Which is a shame, because he's fucking brilliant.

It wold be great if we could get that cash as it might just make the difference between having to sell one of the family silver.

Even more so if he got a move during the transfer window. I could see Newcastle going for him.

It's the clause that states every Santa is sovereign from Lapland and can choose their own naughty and nice list.

He would prefer to take Phillips instead of Maddison, Southgate loves a defensive midfielder when you are playing the likes of Iran.

There’s a chance Maddison and Wilson go to the World Cup, have two of our academy products ever gone to a tournament at the same time?

Madison should be nailed on in the squad,as should Wilson fitness permitting.

There's every chance Maddison playing in the World Cup could be the biggest fee of all. Then again, there may be clause at all. There was a decent pay out when he made his debut for England, same with Wilson.

Hardly comparable tbf. He almost has to take Phillips if there's a chance he'll be fit as we only have 2 competent deep midfielders otherwise. What if Rice or Bellingham get injured in the opening game?

On an individual level no doubt Maddison deserves a place, he can't really do much more, but regardless of any personal issues I just don't see how he fits tactically into a Southgate team. It's not about rewarding individuals for their form it's picking a team to implement his tactics & try to win the tournament.

He'll play Mount and Sterling plus others. However, neither of those deserve to play in front of Maddison.

If he isn't included it'll be a complete joke.

Play him in one of the wide forward slots? He’s a goal threat, even if he’s just on the bench to chuck on instead of Grealish he’s worth taking.

Possibly but does he have the discipline to play that role for Southgate's England? And even if he does would we see the best of him in doing so? The reason he's doing so well for Leicester is he's basically given a free role, can't see that working with England.

These seem to be a lot of hurdles other players don’t have to jump, while falling at the “are they any good and in decent form” one which I’d argue is more important.

I get what you're saying but how can he take Phillips who had played just 54 minutes of football across all competitions all season?

He will obviously take Henderson who can play that role.

Henderson is so far past it it's not funny, really he should be nowhere near the squad. Just shows how unbalanced we are when a player like Maddison probably won't get in yet we're relying on players like Henderson in other areas.

Apparently not in the squad but Jordan Henderson is. Don't get me started on Tomori being behind Maguire, Dier, Coady and Guehi. Christ.

GOALKEEPERS: Pickford (Everton), Ramsdale (Arsenal), Pope (Newcastle).

DEFENDERS: Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Walker (Man City), Trippier (Newcastle), White (Arsenal), Shaw (Man Utd), Stones (Man City), Maguire (Man Utd), Dier (Tottenham), Coady (Everton), Guehi (Crystal Palace).

MIDFIELDERS: Rice (West Ham), Bellingham (B Dortmund), Henderson (Liverpool), Phillips (Man City), Ward-Prowse (Southampton), Mount (Chelsea).

FORWARDS: Kane (Tottenham), Sterling (Chelsea), Foden (Man City), Saka (Arsenal), Grealish (Man City), Rashford (Man Utd), Abraham (Roma)

It was the same with Grealish at the Euros in fairness. The clamour then was Sterling should be dropped & we should build the team around Grealish... Look how that panned out.

If that's the case Southgate should be booed from the first moment. Get him in I'm A Celebrity next year once he's been fired and put him down a fucking trap door and lock it for eternity.

Fucking bellend.

We didn’t get a payout for Maddison, we only get a pay out if he starts I am lead to believe.

Wilson’s payout was actually only £30k
