Just a summary of the various reasons with perhaps a few new ideas thrown in. Not all should be taken seriously. Take your pick of all none or some....... add any others

- the lad wanted to go (apparently he never asked to)

- manager wanted rid of him (clear he didnt want that)

- he was the only saleable asset (probably other than Fleck)

- abducted by aliens (enough said)

- he wanted/needed to progress his career at a higher level (hardly been held back and has little experience playing first team at any professional level)

- it was in the best interests of the club and or player (time will tell)

- there was only one offer on the table so no choice because it was too good (who knows)

- there were several offers and this one was too good to be good (see above)

- Ma Delia and the Carrow Road gang abducted him (cartoon slapstick?)

- The club is short of cash flow (we are told we are cash flow neutral and crowds bigger than budget)

- there is a potential and serious cashflow gap May, June July where the club has no income and payments from the sale will fill the gap (well what other income is there at that time)

- The sale guarantees the future of the club for 3,4 or 5 years - (except his contract runs out in 3 1/2 years and add on clauses are not guaranteed)

- sale creates foundations to carry the club forward - (really ? most of the expected revenue from it is based on hopes and what ifs that may never happen, strange way to create foundations)

- we didn't get the expected extra add on money from the Wilson sale due to his injury so something had to go - (who knows but think about that and the add on's expected from Maddison)

- The accounts are due for filing this month and the directors needed to prove we have enough money to carry on - (The owners have said no more loans to the group and auditors have to make an opinion on going concern for at least 12months from signing the report ie to at least February 2017)

- its to pay for the court cases - (personally don't think it is)

- SISU & ARVO want some money back - (currently no evidence of this but we wont know until February 2017)

- To take attention off the court case (how?)

- Its to help fund the foundations of a new stadium - (fanstasy imo)

- it will help fund a competitive squad in either L1 or Championship. (well yes. It is a more significant amount in L1 though. The funding gap to be competitive in Championship looks to be massive, far more than this fee )

- its all just a bad dream....... sadly it isn't

As always there seem to be plenty of contradictions ...... so situation normal at CCFC under the present owners (any owners?)

Maybe Delia is an Alien that abducted him in her Lotus then cooked him in mustard?

I explained the reasons yesterday, though rather laconically.

He left because he wanted to further his career, he's a professional footballer and will have his hopes and ambitions and money to earn. This transfer has probably made him a potential millionaire at 19 !!

What's happening in 2017 OSB? I've probably missed something.

The club needs money ( we all know that).

It guarentees the boy to be at a championship club next season (at least)

The home games will be pretty much sell outs.

Its given him a decent wage rise, (probably trebled)

Theres all the reasons.

Think that's just when the accounts that cover what's happening now need to be filed.

Maddison fancies wrestling in trifle with Delia.

My take on it is that the owners have said no more money will be put in, so the club must pay for itself. Selling Maddison is the only way to keep it going competitively (ish). The manager advised Joy that hanging on to him for a couple more years could pay off handsomely, but she’s sticking to her guns (I think the Finnish word is “sisu”). Barmy in my opinion, you’d have thought they’d have learned from the disastrous sales policy under Igwe & Co.

It also means our time watching our Madders play for the Sky Blues has been chopped off after a few dozen games – but many people on here are inexplicably cool about that. Not everyone seems to rate him.

I rate him, but he is talent that has had bigger clubs than us monitoring for a couple of years even before he ever came anywhere near the first team we probably did well to hang on to him as long as we did, it's the modern way nowadays, remember Daniel Sturridge ? nicked from us when he was about 14. Wasn't Daniel Cowley nicked off Villa by Arsenal for a poultry million quid a year or so ago it is happening at all levels but when you are st our level it is impossible to fend off.

I'm surprised (and hurt) that the club hasn't offered to provide grief counseling...

Self sufficiency is a desirable club to many I would have thought.

Clearly the sale will help fund the short term and that is an aim.

However, let's not kid ourselves. No he didn't request to go but I'm pretty certain his agent was hunting the best deal as soon as the window opened. All footballers look to maximise income and he is no different.

Despite the hype he hasn't really influenced results very much other than the first couple if games. They'd be a lot ahead of him in the queue for player of the year.

Future success is unmeasurable as well for a player. Leon Barnett was a disaster in his shirt spell here but ended up having a good career. Others have failed to live up to the hype. We once rejected a reading approach for Misfud and that proved a poor decision from what we then knew.

I'm glad that a lot of people have taken a more reasoned view after the nonsense at the start.

As for Mowbray I've never known managers want to sell anyone - but they are not there to make financial decisions but live with the conditions imposed.

I agree with much of that (except to say that I could see ability in Barnett even when some were saying he was the worst player ever, and I wasn’t alone. He needed time to find his feet, just like Stokes did and Bigi could well be the same). Knowing how players are going to develop is very hard – otherwise every club in the land would have been falling over themselves to get Vardy a few years ago.

My disappointment is that we haven’t taken an educated gamble based on TM’s advice to Joy. Would everyone be just as happy about losing Madders if he went for £25m in a couple of years, and we only got a tiny slice of it? No-one knows if he’s going to go that far up the tree, but I think it’s a possibility and I would like to see more adventure from our owners.

At a more emotional level, I hoped so much to watch Maddison play for us for another season at least. And being “one of our own” he connected with the younger fans – which generates loyalty and (ultimately) money. I can’t say I ever really identify with the loanees, no matter how good they might be.

The club must be self-supporting and we just signed seven new players. Their wages have to paid with something since they won't take IOUs. I would imagine TM was told a few weeks ago that he could get players in but Maddison would have to go.
