We wont win this

That place will be an absolute evil cauldron on Saturday, they're fighting for their lives and we crumble against anyone that shows some fight

I don’t know why but I think we will win this, will put big pressure on Boro in the later kickoff.

Think we all have concerns against this type of style. However im sure (like to think) we wont be as bad as yesterday by a long way, if we set up correctly and show enough we will have chances - can we be clinical.

Now dust has settled I do actually think we have a fair chance, they HAVE to win ideally (certainly cant loose) which heaps pressure on - those of us who saw the 80s and 90s escapes should know this!! - I remember us loosing at home 2.1 to derby in 97 when then had little to play for example.

Plymouth are going down, so are actually swinging freely in many ways less pressure on them.

Im not worried about boro at home either, I think we will beat them regardless. Perhaps Norwich will help us, boro are very erratic, like us in some ways, just slightly worse version!

Some massive calls for FL to make and will be interesting to see which way he goes.

Luton will be equally as uncompromising and direct, if not more so. We simply have to match them up.

Collins or Wilson. Collins shot to pieces but Wilson hasn’t played in some time and is also prone to mistakes. I think he’ll go with Collins if he thinks his head hasn’t gone.

Flat back 4, or 3/5? Might he be minded for the extra physicality of Binks?

Not many options in forward areas unless EMC is fit.

Maybe a box midfield??
Collins
Thomas Kitching Binks
MVE JDS
Sheaf Grimes
Allen Rudoni
Wright or Simms

Or, left field

Collins
MVE Thomas Kitching Binks
Sheaf Grimes Rudoni
Saka Wright JDS

or more likely the same formation/11 as Sat except
JDS for Bidwell
Thomas for Lati
Sheaf for Allen
Possibly Wilson for Collins

Real tough one. Luton will have noticed how poor we were against Derby, Sheff U and Plymouth away recently. They will be physical and turn it into the type of battle that we struggle against.
I will be very surprised if Lampard will change the way we play. Very few options with the injuries.
In the past Luton have targeted our wingbacks with high balls, and I can see that coming again. Do we play JDS or Bidders?
Unsure if Wilson is fit or I think he will be in away from home.

forget how many points we have, or what our goal difference is, or what boro do or don't do.
if we want our heads in the right place going in to the toughest 3 games of the season, the playoffs, we really need to play well and beat the team 3rd to bottom.

I would go 3-5-2
Wilson
Kitching lati binks
Mve sheaf grimes rudoni JDS
Simms Wright

Best chance we have with what we have available..not a game for the likes of Tats

Just hope them Luton lumps don’t injure any of our main players. We will allow them to give Collins a little kick in the bollocks (if he’s playing)

Not worried.
We don't need to over think this. Get on the end of a good cross or two. Simms & Saka for a tidy 2-0 win.

I can see the gaps being far too big in the midfield

If you are playing 3 cbs you need 2 in a 6 position as this is where a lot of 2nd balls will end up. Also with that formation you'll end with Rudi spending most of his game in fromnt of the defence which is not where you want him

If we go 3 cbs I would play

A Keeper (I'd play Wilson now but I can't see Lampard changing it)
Lati Binks Kirching
MVE Grimes Sheaf JDS
Rudi
Simms or BTA Wright

Well the main thing is we stay compact and move up and down as a unit. We seem to leave a lot of spaces in our rearguard that get easily exploited.

can See it being similar to the Plymouth game ( with a different result obviously ) they play a back 5 so if we set up the same that’ll be simms pretty much not involved, wouldn’t mind seeing Patterson start wide and wright down the middle, we miss him there.

We're a much better side with Sheaf in, one of the players we have prepared to take the ball in a tight position and a more progressive passer. The former attribute is needed against any team sitting relatively deep to draw them out.

Said the same, big mistake not to play him yesterday, rudoni was marked out the game, grimes plays too deep to create anything, that left Allen to try and create something, at least sheafs always got a couple of chances in him, just go back to the same team/ formation as west brom, one of the best midfields in the league, only had a chance to play together twice, won 1 drew 1

came on so guess he just rested him, he can have plenty of rest in the summer, Lampard prob thought we still had enough to get something even with the 2 changes, barring injuries just have to put your strongest team out, especially pick your captain

Remember we battered Sunderland following game Dasilva left out at Derby
Battered Albion, following game leave out Dasilva at Plymouth
There's a pattern forming

Yeah. I see no reason why we can't get at least a draw.

We will get a reaction to the Plymouth game.

It will be pretty much a must win for them, whereas a draw for us will probably do us just fine.

Hull play Derby on Saturday, that's a huge game for Luton to be keeping an eye on as it plays out. If Derby were to win that one, you have to think Luton will have to beat us, or they are pretty much down (2 points adrift, awful GD)

Wouldn't select Binks v this lot, asking for trouble

I would pick Simms despite him carrying an injury: we are going to need as many players who are good in the air as possible for defending set pieces etc.

I would definitely pick Sheaf ahead of Allen for this one

We were fair too nice v Plymouth (Lati aside): we will need to be more physical to get anything out of Luton game

I wonder if Eccles is an option. Even to come on from the bench. He adds a bit of aggression.

A strong bench for Saturday could be crucial.

If Eccles is fit enough, I would go 442 with him on the right and drop Sakamoto. Tatsu is really good in patches (e.g. he was v Stoke), but when he isn't, he is too peripheral

Wilson
MVE - Lati - Kitching - Dasilva
Grimes - Sheaf
Sakamoto - Rudoni - Wright
Simms

For me this is the obvious side and almost picks itself. The only doubt I have in there is Simms but that would mean either playing BTA up front or playing Paterson wide and moving Wright central. So I think it's got to be Simms.

Assuming the injury situation hasn't improved by then i'd agree with you. I'd like to see EMC back and i'd really really like to see Thomas back.

Agreed. The rationale was sensible to rest Sheaf (and JDS) given his recent injury issues.

This might be controversial, but I don't think Collins did a lot wrong against Plymouth.

I mean you can tell his confidence is so fragile by the way he reacted to the goals, but he was massively exposed for the 2nd and 3rd goals. And the first was a precision finish in the only place he could score.

If he's fit, he'll play against Luton and I suspect with the rest of the team that started v WBA.

He doesn't have strong hands at all, so a lot of shots hit almost right at him, go straight through him, unfortunately.

Plymouth did a job on us. They soaked up pressure which they knew we'd apply and beat us on the break knowing we have a fragile defence. Id expect Luton to try the same . Frank has to step up for this one . The Plymouth manager is pretty cute and out coached him.
