COVENTRY City’s Young Player of the Year Lukas Jutkiewicz is hoping to go one better next season by pushing for the senior honours on offer at the club.
The striker also aims to score more goals for the Sky Blues but would happily swap any personal glory for a determined promotion campaign.
“It would be nice to get more awards next season but the most important thing for me is to be successful with the team and I’d sooner see us getting higher up the table and pushing for promotion than winning individual awards,” said the 22-year-old.
“But if you are successful individually and as a team then hopefully they will go hand in hand.
“It’s a nice touch to the end of the season to get the young player award and a good feeling to take into the summer.
“It is my first season in the Championship and I have enjoyed it and it is nice to get recognition for all the hard work you have put in.”
Asked what was the highlight of his first year at the Ricoh Arena, he said “Signing for Coventry in the first place was a massive boost for me and something I had been looking forward to all last summer.
“I had heard Coventry were interested in taking me and that it was a possibility, so joining was probably the highlight and then it has been more of a season of progression.
"I am now really looking forward to next season and hopefully being stronger.”
Looking back over his first term at City, he has no regrets about his switch to the Midlands from Premier League Everton.
“I had been up there and going on loan here and there and playing a few games, and I had a good season in Scotland last year,” said the forward who scored 12 goals in 36 games for Motherwell in the Scottish Premier.
“But I felt it was really important to go and test myself with a full season in the Championship and hopefully I can improve further next season
I finished with nine goals which isn’t bad but it is not something I am absolutely delighted with.
"I didn’t really set out with a specific target and I am happy with nine but I want to improve upon it because I am never entirely satisfied.
“It has been a solid start to my career here and I hope to improve on that and be successful with Coventry.”
And Jutkiewicz is confident that the attacking brand of football under Andy Thorn will be conducive to scoring more goals.

“I had an end of season meeting with the manager and we spoke about it because I have enjoyed the way we have been playing under Andy,” he said.
“I feel it is creating more chances because we are getting the ball in the final third more where we can hurt teams.
"And it has shown, for me personally, that I have scored a lot more goals since he has taken over, so it has been really good.”
As for his plans for the summer, Jutkiewicz said: “I feel it is important to have a couple of weeks doing nothing so I can switch off mentally and physically.
"I am going to Las Vegas with my friends and then Barbados with my girlfriend to just chill out, and do a little bit of fitness work and be back for pre-season

The Duke is going to be a fans favourite next season if he continues to improve.

If Marlon stays they are going to make an awesome partnership and Juke could mature beyond his years. He scored so few last season because he was out on the wing with little confidence. As soon as AT pulled him ino the middle he looked very dangerous. Good prospect.

If he only scored half of those that hit the woodwork it would be a massive difference. Got 9 was unlucky in a few more

I'm turning into such a pessimist, I see him in double figures for next two years then Westwood style contract negotiations before wandering off into the sunset for free lol

I highly rate him though, looking forward to watching him rack up the goals.

Got better as the season went on and if he continues to improve (especially if Marlon stays) he will turn out to be a terrific player.
Great strength, top work rate and with a bit of added luck, could get 15 goals or more next season.

I think Juke will really come good next season. If MK stays, then we'll have a strike pairing that will cause huge problems for every defence they play against. Maybe 30-40 goals between them.

should have had double figures. I remember that one against Ipswich that hit the underside of the bar and crossed the line but wasn't given.

Great prospect in the making, hopefully he can have a great season and maybe we can tie him down on another contract in order to stop him going for nothing at a later date, as tippex9 has quite rightly bought up, alls good up front if Marlon satys and Sheef pops up with a few, not to forget Turner when he's fit, always good for 5/10 goals

3 or 4 of his 9 were penalties but he did hit the woodwork so often that I'm confident he will score more. We create more now he is older, stronger, more experienceed and an all round better player. Probably 12-15 next season but I would think we need to add 20 form Marlon or A N Other and a few more chipped in from midfield than this season if we are to compete in the top half of the division.

I think the guy's class tbh - he would have had more had Boothroyd's "tactics" not mis-used him. He became a completely new player under Thorny and I reckon next season will be huge from him. 20 goals+ easily.

Do we think that if King goes, we have a replacement already then?

Be nice if he becomes the start we all feel he can be.

Wouldnt go as far as to say hes MK's replacement but with another yr under the leadership of MK, we kay have one this time next yr. Hes a typical poacher type player, but isnt afraid to have a go from distance even if it does end up goin well wide or doesnt get enough behind it. I said at the start of the season we've got one hell of a player on our hands!
