Daughter's school closed tomorrow again.

Just been to drop my daughter's friend off and it is really bad out there. Nearly had one accident. A guy pulled into his drive but then couldn't get up the ramp of his drive and just slid straight back into the main road. Narrowly missed him. Luckily me and all the other drivers were being really careful and only driving at about 5mph tops.

It's really slippy under feet. Be careful out there tomorrow everyone.

No I work nights and their mum works in the day so we can cover these things as our daughter has quite a few days off sick and lots of hospital appointments.

I would hate footballers and fighter pilots if it was sour grapes oh and porn stars

That's the spirit, I've walked to work a few times after heavy snow in the past, I enjoy it. I have been off work today and will be tomorrow as the schools are shut and the customer I'm working for is snowed in (they are in the sticks & my trucks will never make it) it will be a very costly few days for me.
Edit: But it has allowed me to spend some quality time with the kids in the snow, which is priceless.

I feel your pain, It feels so festive up here. I took my two youngest out over the fields today to roll giant snowballs and make snow angels, my lad started crying because he was so happy, he never thought he would get to see snow at Xmas time, my bottom lip went. :emoji_confused:

Had to come back home as the paths too icy,so struggling to get the ladders to stay upright. Plus one customer said what's the point as it'll snow again ?
Should thaw out though so hopefully back out again tomorrow or Thursday.

I shit meself on big ladders at the best of times BBR.....there is no way I'd be up there in this sort of weather.......more chance of ice skating on stilts...

You have to be ultra careful in these conditions obviously. I've only come off the ladders once, that was when my co worker decided to walk away from footing them, as he thought they looked safe. I landed in a heap on to snow luckily but lay there covered head to foot in it ! My mate was in shock and I pretended I couldn't move, and he was in a panic.
Just before he was about to call for an ambulance I jumped up and gave him a rollicking. I work on my own now so I'm more aware at safety stuff.

Another incident that springs to mind. My mates brother asked if he could do some cleaning with me as he was in between jobs ? Okay no problem have you done this type of work before ? No came the reply but he had worked outdoors before. Anyway on his first day I told him to do the bedrooms, and set the ladder up for him.Halfway up his legs shook and he quickly came back down. Found out he was scared of heights, so told him to clean downstairs instead then. As it was in the winter just like now I warned him not to leave his hands in the warm water too long, as it causes hot aches. Anyway I was up the ladders cleaning away when he let out a loud scream of pain. The prat had ignored my warning and his hands had turned blue !
He asked me could he go home please as the whole experience wasn't what he was expecting. He had a reputation as a bit of a hard man but I made sure all the lads in the pub found out that his bottle went.
He took plenty of stick for months !

Never once had a day off school because of snow (Bell Green Primary, Foxford Comp) - unheard of to close in my day! Mind you, everyone walked to school then. It was always an opportunity to make fantastic ice slides on hard surfaces and do a 'granny' :happy:

It's a claim culture these days though isn't it.

You slipped on an icy pathway on the school grounds 30 years ago you would just have been told to be more careful. These days it is all about can I claim?

The local primary school was open normally, I watched the young mums pick their way home across the ice with a toddler either side.

Slow as they were, they were actually moving a lot faster than the traffic around here.

No point even trying to walk on the paths absolute Ice rink even in the city centre! Took the risk of walking in the road from home to work!
Hopefully thaws out asap.

It is horrendous. I know some will moan, but I think my daughter's school should have been closed today too. Shut for the last two days, but like you say, the paths are literally like an ice rink.

Decided to give my daughter a lift to school because it is so bad and all along the journey all we could see was kids slipping and sliding and barely keeping on their feet. Some were also walking on the road, but that was obviously very dangerous.

Got near the school and all the teachers are out diverting kids off the pavement and into the road.

Treacherous on foot out there today.

I wish cyclists would fuck off. In and out of cars trying to balance without putting their feet down. Seen two nearly come off already into cars.

Might get my roller blades out and wonder why it's not the best.

I have every sympathy with cyclists and there on road dilemnas.
Having recently done a few runs around the capitol you can see another side to the argument.
They can be pretty reckless.

when we were that age. that was part of the fun of getting to school
slipping, falling , snowball fights and a few bruises here and there are part of being a child

But both you and I know times have changed. No need to be patronising.

Why do you think all the teachers were outside my daughter's school and down the road a bit forming a line and instructing all the children to keep off the path and use the road? Liitigation culture, that's why!

We all know what it USED to be like, but it's not like that anymore. Everyone to eager to blame anyone and everyone and make a claim for any damage or injury.

I had a motorbike when I was a teen and one day I was riding past the old Cov Theatre (now Transport Museum) and as I came past diown the cobbled side street, a cleaner came out and threw her bucket of soapy, used water straight out into the road and directly into my path. She obviously didn't see me. I lost control, skidded and the bike threw me over the handlebars and I slid down the road. I got up, the woman said sorry, I said it was okay and I got back on my bike and rode off, just accepting it was just one of those things and a pure accident.

You tell me who would act like that nowadays? Pretty much no-one. There would be a massive queue waiting to claim.

STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED AFTER SNOWFLAKE FALLS IN LONDON

The Prime Minister is to chair an emergency meeting of COBRA following a snowflake was reported to have settled on the pavement on London’s Oxford Street.

Well rehearsed emergency plans are already being implemented to ensure disruption is minimized and Sky News is running wall-to-wall coverage of the crisis. Programme Anchor Stephen Dixon advised viewers: ‘It looks like we could have up to a one-flake covering throughout the South of England so we need to prepare for road closures, train cancellations and intermittent power cuts. Don’t drive unless it’s absolutely necessary.’

A spokesman for The Met Office said: ‘This just might get pretty bad and there could be major problems. Perhaps even as bad as that time we had one whole half a centimetre and the South went into total lockdown for a month.’

The hashtag #PrayForTheHomeCounties is currently trending on Twitter and The Army is on standby.

Meanwhile the Midlands and Northern areas of Britain remain largely unaffected having only to deal with the usual seasonal blizzards and three foot snowdrifts.

It doesn't bother me so much that there wasn't a bin collection around here today, it infuriates me though that the council said there was a collection when there wasn't.

Oh no they weren't! I walked all around this area this evening and none had been collected.
