I’ve given up on it never won anything , my dad had a bit of luck on the Irish lottery about 16 years ago he had 4 numbers one week and 5 a couple of weeks later . Won about 8k. One more number from the 4 number week on the 5 number week he would of won about 2 million euro

The lottery is awful. I am not complaining, as my dad gets me tickets every week, so it costs me nothing.

I actually worked this out the other day though. He has the same set lines every week and done it every week since it's onset in 1994. It as cost him £45k. He won £120 once and that was on the rolldown for 3 numbers.

He gets me two a week, one for Wednesday and Saturday. This has been for years and I haven't even for three numbers.

Dreadful.

I do Elite Competitions now instead.

About £250k would be the right amount for me , pay off the rest of me mortgage . Put a good deposit down on a place for my daughter and give our in laws a few quid. I’d still want to work but would probably go term time

It's a bit upsetting when you calculate how much you spend over the years

I emptied my penny jar when I first started doing the lottery. It was about £45 and I spent it all on lottery tickets. I don't remember getting any winnings back.

Maybe for 1 year I should try spending £400 on some other form of gambling and see what the returns are?

An ex-work friend was part of a syndicate that won £4m. There were 10 in the syndicate and his wife was also in it. They pocketed £800k, he retired as did his wife, and 11 years later they're living a very happy life.

That’s the thing though....financial security but it comes with the following downsides
1. Taxi driver for years with same group of mates having the crack.... all lost
2. Kids had to change school because of threats to them
3. Move out of nice community with real mates you could go for a pint with... all gone
4. Eldest son carried on work but worked for prison service job he loved but had to stop as word got out

it’s a world of shite.... where mates known for years act differently andyou become paranoid.

they didn’t go public but one of the sons is a gob shite and couldn’t keep it in the bag...flash cars etc. They get begging letters all the time (although most are from me)

last time I saw the family all together was at a funeral and the mum was emptying the buffet sausage rolls into a bag for later so they didn’t go to waste.... which made me smile. So still Working class people deep down but can’t mix with their own people and put in a place they don’t want to be in through a lottery win!!! It’s quite sad to see how it all unfolds...

this is why I'd prefer it to be jackpot given out each week and filtered down to 5+bonus etc where there's likely to be more winners and thus lower winnings. More people winning enough money to make a difference to average people (maybe buy a house/new car or have a few holidays) but not enough to make you have to totally alter your life due to the wealth.

That’s hardly the point of it is it. It’s USP is it’s like changing not mediocreville

As I've said above I know why they don't do that - people are greedy and bigger prizes = more sales. But in terms of reality it makes far more sense to have smaller but still significant prizes going to more people. For a lot of people mediocreville is an aspiration - simple things like not having things rent or a mortgage to worry about can be life changing.

I think £100k would change most people’s lives permanently.

I could pay my mortgage off. That on its own, the security that would bring and the piece of mind especially in the current climate would be priceless.

Are people just ardent gamblers I wonder.

Been doing this Elite Competitions and some people have won two, three or even four times. Could be more. Haven't tracked it in that great a detail.

They do have prizes of site credit and that certainly does partially explain it and some.of the multi winners have only won small prizes.

This company won investment on Dragons' Den, just in case you were wondering how I found them.

6 times this guy has won now in the past month. I didn't take a screenshot of the previous one to these, but it was for £10,000 cash.

What people are doing is buying up all the tickets, mainly on the Site Credit winning comps.

I need to hunt him down I think and cut off all his data and internet.

When my ex used to work for the Telegraph, she rang me up one day and asked if I fancied going to some show because if so she’d make me the winner of the competition that week.

Since then I’ve never trusted these sorts of competitions.

Weird thing is talking to my American mate and she does very well from competitions. Holidays, cash, show tickets, two or three times a month (though she does enter a lot). I wonder if there’s a regulation difference or something.

There's something not quite right about the way certain competitions are ran. The lottery is a massive national one so cant see them being able to diddle too much, however these smaller radio ones, channel 4 text in comps etc, i bet they're rife with Cheif execs family or friends 'winning ' said prize.
