Well, Thorn said he personally handed MK his contract.......so i choose to not believe this

I don't understand why we'd offer him a 2-year deal if he wanted a 3-year deal. Sure, he'll be getting on a bit in 3 years, but he'll still easily be good enough i'd have thought?
In any case, i'm totally confused by this entire saga now, don't know what to believe. Hope it's done and dusted soon.

Yes in the long run a 3 year deal will cost us more, especially if it goes wrong, injury ect... but if he's going to help us get near a play-off place, and I think he can then we might be able to cheek a promotion and that would be worth the extra cost!!!

Basically I think this is how it has gone:

Week after season has finished, Coventry offer King a 2 year deal, King says he will consider it.

Last week while on holiday he calls the club to tell him after considering it he has rejected the deal because he wants a longer deal.

Club call him back and say that we can offer him a 3 year deal. King confirms that he is happy with that and indicates he will sign new drafted up contract when he gets back from holiday.

What makes you think that?

Oh God, I'm done with all this until he's officially signed to someone for next season and beyond. Too much misinformation.

I've had a brief exchange with Brody on twitter about this (sometimes i think we don't appreciate how amazing it is to just be able to chat to one of the board members like this!). From what i gather, the contract length is not the issue.
From what i can garner from all the info from all the sources over the last few days, it seems the club has made Marlon a contract offer he's happy with and is happy to sign, but his agent/'representative' is still out and about to see if there might be a better deal from a bigger club. That's the conclusion i'm drawing from it all anyway.

Cheers jim, pretty much as it is, then someone throws in a load of shite, and everyone debates it all ha-ha. I am happy that what was originally stated i.e. has given verball yes, is how it is.

Nah, not convinced. I still think he has agreed to a deal. Can't see any club announcing what we announced if it is not true. And like some other guy said, Thorn said he had offered Marlon his contract personally.

But who knows what's going on..

Spot on Jim thats how I see it and everything else is his agent stirring the pot.

Agents have fucking ruined football.. those bastards!

I agree with Jim's reading of the situation - Marlon happy with offfer but agent seeing if he can do a bit better. To be honest isn't that what an agent is paid to do? We may not like it but that's his job - Marlon can always say no to any offers he might come up with but its the agents/representative or whatever he calls himself remit to look out for his client and get all the options possible for Marlon to weigh up.

There in lies the crucial point.

He wants security. Can't blame him but from the clubs side looks like he is thinking about his money future more than the game and therefore less likely to play so well when he has less to worry about? If we offer him 3 years at 31 then he has a comfortable life - where's the passion gone for a promotion busting 20+ goals a season and the chance of being picked up by another club when he gets noticed? That's my worry. Make him too comfortable and his form will drop.

TBF Ismail Miller and a few others are around and in the same league as King and I don't think Brum or anyone else will offer the ex jail bird more than 2 years for the same reason.

Again agents/advisors think they know better and greed among them for lining their own pockets is an evil players should be more aware of.

...and if Brody has agreed 3 years then King should snap his hand off pretty smart quick!
The hope for Brody would be to sell him on for a good fee when he scores his 20+ goals. There in lies your risk. He may think it's worth it but 3 years comfort zone contract for me says form may dip and so a sell on less likely....
