I'd say firstly, MVE hasn't been playing for us for 15 years, so we can ignore that stat.
Secondly, if I was a coach/analyst I would have the data for how Hull defend against long throws and ask Lampard to make a tactical decision based on that. I assume that's what's happened, regardless of our inability to score from them.
Yea it was bloody crazy when we have BTA up front and they have two huge centre halves heading everything away for fun.
We should of played it short and looked to work the ball toTorp for a shot from the edge of the box. But that would mean playing to our strengths and we are reluctant to do that.
They're useful, but not if you do it everytime you get a throw anywhere near their area. They just set up for it and are on auto-pilot. Need to vary it up.
One place I'd like us to use it more is when we're further back and MvE gets the ball really quickly. The striker should be making a run towards that flank so MvE can hurl the ball down the line and we can try and get them on the turn. Chances are most times we'd end up with another throw further up the pitch. Again, not do it everytime but when they look out of position. At the moment we just hold onto the ball, let them get into position and end up playing a shirt throw to a player marked and under pressure.
Again , pretty much like all the crosses, its only a threat if you have the personnel to capitalise on them. If you’ve got that buffoon BTA running off at tangents and only possibly Rudi knowing how to take advantage then its meat and drink to half decent centre backs.
