Just read this:

http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/coventry-news/grandads-crowdfunding-bid-save-coventrys-9679851

Are they really needed in some places? I go past some and they are stood on crossings with traffic lights which is effectively doing their job. Others tend to stop traffic every time they see somebody within 100 yards in case they want to cross, whether they are a child or not.

I can understand them on roads with no crossings or anything to help kids cross the road.

Surely decent road crossings can do the same job?

The crossing outside the pound shop in Holbrooks is a T junction controlled by lights. The old boy controls the crossing between building society and pound shop. The abuse he gets off drivers is disgusting and it comes from all walks of society. He always has a smile on his face and genuinely looks as if he is enjoying his little job. Bless him. Lollipop persons rock. Yah.

I think abuse is a bit too far for a guy doing his job!

Never had one at our school. Parents taught us about road safety. In fairness the parents are the worse, driving from 1/4 of a mile away

Only needs one child hurt, as happened at Moseley school a couple of weeks ago, to realise they shouldn't have dispensed with their lollipop lady
