Come across an interesting fact yesterday that we are the only club in the championship to not have anyone on loan and us a long with Wrexham are the only two clubs in the EFL to not have any loan players.
I know this has been talked about before when Sheaf was injured but has CWR or anyone asked the question why this is and who's decision is it.

we have seen previously with teams like Leicester, Ipswich etc how effective the loan market can be and we can all see what aspects of our team we are missing in particular midfield and experience so why havnt we used the loan market ?

We tried to sign at least 2 players on loan this summer. Our squad is relatively light so getting the numbers up with our own assets puts the club on a better long term footing.

In previous years, we had a tiny squad that was patch up with 5-6 loans a year. Add 1-2 permanent signings to our group and we’ve got a decent sized squad to look to add loans.

Another issue we’ve got is that the team is so young, adding a young loanee from the Prem or elsewhere doesn’t add what we actually need: experience.

Our squad is no bigger than last year when MR was complaining about it.
we have lost Kelly, Ohare, Godden, Moore, Palmer (5)
we signed Rudoni, Asante, Bassette, Dovin, Rodrigues (5)

some will argue that the quality of the signings are better than those we lost but the squad is no bigger than last season

We should have loans as we aren't able to compete financially with other clubs in the league.

The irony is our playoff team was littered with them.

Hopefully Doug sees sense and we get a few in January.

And it's not about experience - Doyle was an absolute rock and our best defender that year bar maybe Fadz and he was v young.

Championship squad rule
Anyone know the details of our squad registration? Ie. Home grown players, club developed player etc?

3 of that 5 barely played. The squad is not weaker for not having Kelly, Godden or Moore.

That dressing room is definitely weaker for not having Kelly and Godden, or at least not having characters like Kelly and Godden.

We’ve utilised the loan market semi-decently in recent times, and we have to make use of it again. Even a few short term deals in January.

Two or three experienced (but not geriatric) players are a must.

You're probably the only person on here who thinks we may not be missing strong characters and leaders.
Most the disagreements are about how we arrived at that point, not whether it's true or not.

I certainly think we miss leaders ON THE pitch. Most of those players were rarely on it and wouldn’t get in now. That’s my point.

Well, Yeah, I agree. But we don't even have those type of players around the squad. James Milner isn't getting much of a look in at Brighton but I bet he's great to have around the club, we don't have that.

He would, though I wasn't suggesting he'd come here! Just a good pro who's been around the block and could help those struggling with confidence and chip in with a few cameos.

I also read somewhere that no team has ever been promoted out of the championship without at least one loan player.

I heard this and tried looking it up but couldn't find it anywhere.
I'd imagine far more go up with than without at the very least.
The 3 going up this season will all include a loanee unless we pull off a miracle.

Characters like Godden who threw his toys out the pram and started winding up his own fans?

I mean, I can't imagine there's many clubs in the division who's teams worth £45m. Isnt the value the people sling around for our team?

If that's the case, I think we can compete financially with most in the league...just not those getting parachute payments. Or Stoke.

I think you'd also have to look at how many teams didn't have loans full stop. I think someone said something like we're the only Championship team without a loan this year. When was the last year before that we didn't have any loans?

It may well be that it's almost impossible for a team without a loan to get promoted because there's only been a handful of them and if, say, 95% of teams have loans then the chances of a team with a loan getting promoted is very very high.

What's one incident with the support in several seasons got to do with how good he was in the dressing room or how strong a character he was?

Fairly sure Vik also had a bit of spat with the support at one point.
I'd prefer that to the current bunch of wall flowers.

So would his wages have been, That is the problem. It's a difficult balance; experience, appearances, wages, sell on value against investment?

It might have cost £45 million but I guess it would be difficult to sell it for that

Here is a simple question. How many Championship sides don't get promoted each season? Of the ones that do get promoted how many have just come down from the Premier League?

It is a very competitive League. Not just week in week out, but for transfers and loans. The margins between success and failure are fine. No one has a devine right to promotion. Those that go up deserve it, the task is immense.

We have started with terrible form after a promising pre season (but pre season form stands for nothing). Fans have a choice, stand by the Manager and team, support them and help them get through it. Or they can spit the dummy out and get the manager sacked and set us back years.

Godden scored 9 goals last year, at current rates nobody apart from Wright is getting that

He was a total passenger after Nov last year. He would be 5th choice this season.

It's irrelevant, you said he barely played which was bollocks. Not only that he played and contributed. He played quite a lot in our best run of form of the season as well.

He barely started a match from Dec onwards …. Godden, Kelly et al leaving are not why we are struggling this season and if they had stayed they wouldn’t play. By definition they would not therefore have strengthened us.

That’s what the players cost, I do wonder though if you put them all on the market how much we’d get for them now.
