This always makes me think of Liverpool being lauded for introducing a wage cap of £40k/year in their academy.

"It is claimed that a number of Prem outfits are offering up to £11,000-a-week to players as young as 16."

That was 10 years ago as well!

Liverpool introduce salary cap for Academy players in bid to keep them grounded

The Reds don't want their youngsters to be given too much too soon, as opposed to other top flight clubs who are paying £11,000-a-week to players as young as 16

Have often thought that U21 players should have their paid wage capped at, say, £10k a week with the rest held in a trust account by the PFA until they’re 21. Still get the money but may stop some really promising talents going off the rails early on. The age I’ve just picked at random, could apply it to any age, or ratchet it.

Had chance to watch young Dave Mantle yesterday. He did okay and to leave with an away point against the league leaders is not a bad result. They have trusted him to hold the back line and TBF to him he seemed to cope quite well for a kid. Do I see him in the championship any time soon ? The answer would be no , but then again teenagers in the Southern league never look like they'll do that. The last one to do that was Sinclair Armstrong and he was different gravy at this level.

What was his speed like? I saw a highlights clip when he was at Weymouth and he looked a bit slow...but not sure one 35 second clip is doing anyone justice

I see exactly where your coming from . Positional play and all around awareness pretty good, but definitely a little slow in the tackle.

Yeah fair enough. Will see how he goes. Tbh for an 18 year old to get two loans after signing pro is good. And he's stepped up levels going to Maidenhead from Weymouth.

Rafa has just ghosted past Eze. Looks like he's playing right wing back instead of on the left.

Doing well. Tbf he was just finding his feet for Maidenhead then got crunched and about for 6 weeks

Our young winger Sidall got two assists for Gloucester today, loan extended to end of season. Think he's another who has something about him

It's a City move from earlier in the season, the amount of room for that guy to move laterally and then get the pass off, abysmal really, nothing taken away from the lads strike though, sweet.
