I am not close to the details. Is your understanding that there was no break clause, relegation aside?

Even if we are compelled to sign BS there would be nothing stopping us loaning him to a top end L1 club as long as they covered his wages?

Why would we?

The weird denialism around Sheaf on here is hilarious.

Denialism? I do not follow. I am simply saying if the club are compelled to sign a player who has potential but struggled to make an impact this season. We could loan him to help accelerate his development. My comment is based on the assumption we want to push on next season and in my view unless Sheaf improves (which I acknowledge is possible given age) he would struggle to be a player that would make the difference to the first team next season. If you think he was a top player this season, fair enough, it's a view but one i don't share and based on minutes when it matters, neither do the football brains who run the club think that either.

I think that point lacks credibility on a few levels and shows how stats only tell half a story.

1. COH and Hammer both played more mins.

2. Matty James who was brought in half way through the season was not far off Sheaf come the end of the season.

3. Kelly had a poor season through injury otherwise would have played far more.

4. Biamou played more than Walker and any other forward! so by your logic are you suggesting he was our most valuable forward this season?

5. When the team was fully fit at the end of the season for the crucial games Sheaf was on the bench.

To be clear to his fan club I don't not him and think he could push on and be very decent in 18 months. But he needs games and he might not be guaranteed them here.

1. I was comparing similar positions.
Of CM's only Hamer played more. Even he had a spell out of the team - do the "football brains" not rate him either?

2. Because Sheaf was injured

3. In your opinion. Sheaf also missed games injured.

4. No, Walker & Godden got injured.

5. No he wasn't, he was injured & returned to Arsenal for treatment. We still made a point of bringing him back & playing him as soon as he was fit. Why would we do that if MR & the "football brains" don't rate him?

There's absolutely no way Sheaf is going to be loaned out.
He's infinitely better than Kelly technically but yes, of course Kelly brings other attributes. Don't see the problem with having Sheaf, Kelly, James & Hamer - we'll need the options.

Frostie, I don't not rate the potential Sheaf has. Looks a decent player in some aspects of his game. For me Kelly has a bigger overall impact on the way we play atm and I don't think it is too bigger coincidence our form dipped when he was injured.

One player however has peaked one is still developing and as I have said 3 or 4 times in this thread might become a very useful player to have on our books.

I think where we differ slightly is Sheaf makes your strongest 11 right now, I don't, and based on team selections I don't think Robins does either atm.

Sheaf will be more than good enough for us. He is a young player, who was in his first full season in the championship.
FFS give him a break and let’s see how well he performs next season. I suspect a lot of people will be in for a surprise.

I’m sure Liam Walsh will have options.

For instance, Lee Johnson was the Bristol City manager that loaned Walsh to us but always saw him as integral to the development of that team. Walsh’s injury and Johnson’s sacking meant it never worked out - and I’ve no idea if the two are particularly close. But Johnson is now manager at Sunderland, if they were to emerge from the playoffs )it might currently look unlikely but strange turnarounds happen every year) they will have resources to make them very competitive in terms of wages.

Which is fine, a perfectly valid opinion & one shared by many I would suspect.

To claim that the "footballing brains" agree with you to try to give you some kind of credibility, when all the evidence suggests otherwise though, is daft.

Fwiw, I have never said he'd always be in my strongest XI either - he wouldn't, but I understand we need more than 11 players in a squad.

Wouldn't suprise me if Bristol make a move for James and would make sense as signed for Leicester by Pearson if I remember right.

Coventry City players ratings for the season

Sky Blues fans have scored Mark Robins's men based on their overall contribution during the season
www.coventrytelegraph.net

Your right about there being a high percentage who feel on his performances that Sheaf made a modest contribution to the season.

By footballing brains I was suggesting that When it mattered Robins did not view him to be a starter. To a lesser extent Hamer was in that bracket at the end of the season. Room to improve and let's hope he does.

Is your understanding that when embargo is lifted the deal will automatically be ratified?

The fact that Biamou had a higher rating than Walker pretty much show that a high percentage of our fans have no clue what they’re talking about

He was on the bench and not picked to come on 7 times all season and a couple of those he was returning from injury. Other than that he played in every game he was fit.
