Kitching going from “the defender we need to upgrade” to “clearly better than Thomas” in the space of 48 hours because we won a game is peak forum behaviour.

It was never the case was it really. A stubborn Robins froze him out.

I don’t think the consensus has ever been that Kitching is the one that needs to improve.

I've always found the 2 of them to be a fairly similar standard personally. That standard being much better than Lati and Binks.

According to many on here yes
I'm not 1 of those by the way .I've always like the way he tries to split the oppostitions defence with passes through the middle and those two wide passes yesterday were sublime

or people never thought of Thomas as the better player to begin with, and it's just Kitching's passes from the game that's got people talking about him.

He's looked like our best CB by a distance over pre-season and in the competitive games since. Think him and Thomas are about the same defensively.

Agree with that. By far his best game. It’s what we should have been seeing for over a season. Let’s hope it’s not a one off

Torp missed last year's pre-season, so it's no surprise that it took him a long time to show his best form.

Accept that. But pre-season is in July and August. The season runs until the following May.

What a strange thing to say. Maybe the truly modern man ( whatever that means) has to be there 27/7 when his wife is expecting.
But to most of us bought up in the real world, playing a professional football match for which you are being paid thousands of pounds, you would automatically break off your husbandly duties and return later.
It called working for a living, not all of us had time off to have babies

Really pleased Kitchen is really starting to show quality and consistency. Always thought he would.

Worth remembering that although Robins froze him out, he did deserve to lose his place. First off, he was suspended at the start of last season and Binks’ defensive shortcomings hadn’t fully revealed themselves.

In 23/24, Kitching’s form had sunk somewhere between the Wolves game where he was excellent and the Man U game where he looked totally out of sorts. Most of us will remember how the season fell totally flat and some of that is on him.

Fair play to him for pulling his finger out, getting in shape and getting his place back.

27/7 would be a stretch, but I’d have thought most dads want to at least be there to help during the labour! And I think he still would have got paid too…

As a mother of two I can tell you IMO most men are of no use in the delivery suite. This is an open secret amongst women. It is a modern idea we could do without. It's part of this, "we had a baby" nonsense.
His partner will have managed perfectly well without him there.

Meant 24/7 obviously. And he had to go to work. Doesn’t look much like a midwife either.
And all I was saying was how can anyone possibly say his behaviour was “ unhinged “ just because he wasn’t there throughout the labour.

Robins downfall was accelerated by his freezing out Kitching. We were crying out for him but something had obviously happened between them.
Playing very well now for Frank.

Ha, well that’s true enough - although it didn’t stop my wife from taking a very dim view of my idea of going to Wembley last season when our due date coincided with the playoff final last season. I imagine the Kitchings have a different dynamic!

Thankfully, there aren't many workplaces nowadays that wouldn't afford a father-to-be time off to attend the birth of their child. I am sure there would have been no issue with Kitching missing the game should he have chosen to.

Good for us that he did play, and I don't doubt it was with his partner's full blessing.

Might be useless but possibly creates that bond between father and child if they're present at the birth.

Otherwise it's just a small crying shit machine that suddenly appears in your house.

Wasn't really Robins who froze him out in fairness.
Started 25 out of 35 in 23/24 & then 5 out of 13 under Robins last season.

It was after that he only started 1 of the next 12.

As Nan would say, “ worra load of ” .
You build your relationship with your kids over the decades that follow their birth.
If you don’t want a crying machine in your house. Don’t have kids.
You would think that having kids was something new that today’s mummy’s and daddy’s had just invented.
No wonder there are so many spoiled little darlings running around the place.

More cope. They have a DM sit with them and hold their hand. And again most of their failures are loss on concentration at set pieces giving the ball away or losing their man. We aren’t getting ripped apart on the break, or massively overrun, we are handing out goals like they’re bracelets at a Taylor Swift concert. The defence is crying out for some organisational ability and defensive wisdom. People are desperate to put the blame anywhere but the two players tasked mainly with defending our goal.

And yet , the data is telling Sheffield united to spend a few million on one of them

Maybe they plan to put him next to the experienced jack Robinson

Robins obviously preferred Binks at start of last season, whether that’s because of a fall out or he preferred Binks as a CB I don’t know. Had to double check and out of first nine games Kitching played three times, once against Bristol city in cup (clean sheet, Binks back next game) and Oxford in cup (clean sheet, Binks back next game), Watford away 1-1, 5 at the back.

we then lost to spurs in cup (Kitching was dropped again) and Swansea at home. Then Kitching got a run of three games before robins reverted to 5 at the back without Kitching

Can only presume it started following Kitching sending off v Blackburn end of season before. Let’s just be honest, robins was all over the shop with some team selections at the start of last season. Doesn’t mean he’s not a legend at the club

I mean our left back gets more sleep during 90 minutes than I do in a night. Countless times teams get success down that side of the pitch.
