Has anyone else watched any 3rd tier english football in the flesh?

I've been to About 5 matches in the last ten years, and it's very poor. I'd say the gap between championship and lge 1 is the biggest in England. Lge1 lge2 on top of non lge are all pretty similar.

Make ur own minds up as to whether this is good or bad!

Is there a shortage of vowels in the league down there?

Don't see it being such a big gap.

Regardless, without an out an out 20-goal a season striker, City will go nowhere.

I've seen a few league 2 games and they've been ok - I think the standard is all relative as there are two crap teams and so it looks ok.

So, basically, when we get relegated, we are going to "Non-League quality" Football. Oh GOODY!!!

I watched Exeter City vs Sheffield Wednesday this season, very poor quality. We should do all right, top 6 at least

I reckon Cody could be a 20-goal a season striker in League 1 - but we'll probably sell him to a richer rival!

3 things you need to get out of League 1.

- a 20+ goal a season striker - in the last 3/4 years every promoted side has had a 20+ goal striker. although that doesn't guarentee promotion as their seems to be 5-6 20+ goal scorers each year in league 1.
- a striker partner who'll get you 15 goals
- a midfield that will contribute another 20 goals between them.

The majority of teams promoted have scored 70-85 goals and conceded around 40-46.

:facepalm:He he - sorry was a bit obvious, but you look at the last 2-3 years: -
Last season - Southampton (Lambert 21), Brighton (Murray 22), Peterborogh (CMS - 27),
2009/10 - Millwall (Morrison 20), Norwich (Holt 24), Leeds (Beckford 25)
2008/09 Leicester (Fryatt 27), Peterborough (CMS 23), Scunthorpe (Hooper 24)

It does seem a league where a lot of goals are scored and over the past 2-3 years there have been 5-6 strikers scoring 20+ league goals.

Don't understand the cynicism Duffy, we've only missed 4 penalties.

I've watched three MK Dons matches this year, they won every one...and in every single game I thought 'we'd batter both these teams'. They were awful quality. If we could keep our current squad and add a couple, which I doubt we will, I'd be very hopeful. Only if we went for it.

Exactly, a dose of realism for all those that say league one is shit and we'll find it a cakewalk.

Just how many years has it been since we had a 20 goal striker? :thinking about:

Has to be Dion way back when doesn't it.

Hate to say it but there seem to be some overly optimistic people here (imo of course) the gap between Championship and L1 is small and it is a very hard league to get out of. With our reduced resources and further cuts it could well be a struggle. However on a more positive note I do agree with some in that I think Cody Mac could well be a 20+ goals a season man we need next season.

Yeah seen Charlton! Much much better than anything I've seen at the Ricoh this season! Depends who you watch I suppose. The tempo is definitely faster tho, and it's alot more physical.

All the best

I have been to see Notts County quite a bit this season as a guest of my brother (season ticket holder) and I can honestly say you could not distinguish between the top half of Div 1 and the bottom half of The Championship in terms of the football played. Yes there is some shite (as there is in The Championship) but there are also some very competitive teams and we will have some entertaining games next season.

After the season we have just had (actually the last few seasons), I would prefer to see us competing for promotion and winning games, then languishing in or around relegation constantly facing the prospect of relegation.

It is a case of glass half full or empty - and it will be half full for me next season.

I really do want us to tonk teams week in week out, get to Wembly to win the JPT and win the league by a convincing margin - but I don't think that's going to happen. We're going to find that League 1 is a lot tougher than many people think.

Another winter of discontent is on the cards I fear.......

next season is about rebuilding!

Getting everyone going in the same direction (Board, Manager, Players, Fans etc)

Get this right and next season will be alot more enjoyable than this season!

if you look at the scores after about 20 mins theres normally a goal in every game by then. it is a lot easier to score goals in league 1 for sure imo so if we stay solid at the back and cody mac knocks in the goals we should do quite well.

You know full well that's not going to happen until a takeover happens which you also know full well is not going to happen, I'll eat Otis' hat if it does but you know full well that ain't going to happen either! The only way the current board, who we are most likely stuck with because their strategic advisor Mystic Meg had visions of AT lifting the premier league title aloft (she can't tell a Johnson Paint from an FA Cup let alone a Birmingham Senior from a Premier League trophy), is to not flog Thomas, Hussey, Clarke, Bigi, McD, Christie and Cameron. I think most accept Keogh is too good for lg1 and if a new contract has been offered of which he decides is not for him then that's perfectly acceptable. Add 4-5 loans/freebies (optimism) and we may be able to compete. However, sell those kids way before their true value becomes apparent and SISU can well and truly **** right off. It's certainly feasible that these low lifes would stoop so low and try and sell the kids but i honestly do not see what future they have at this club if they do, what are they going to get?? £1m job lot maybe? They may aswell have cleared off months ago if they wanted to save themselves £1m. Let's just hope that the kids rebuke any offers they get and they're mentality is all about playing football and becoming cult heros to the young generation of fans.
