Have to say this made me chuckle.
My daughter's school held a tolerance day at school for the LGBT community and to teach understanding to the 12 year old kids.
My daughter said that a teacher stood up and said she was a lesbian and then held up pictures of her 'wife.'
She then listed a whole lot of words that the kids shouldn't use because they are offensive.
'Please don't say 'faggot,' 'lezza,' 'dyke,' 'queer,' 'poof,' 'batty boy,' 'fairy' 'arse bandit,' 'bone smuggler,' 'fudge packer,' or 'woofta' she said. An outbreak of chuckles and guffaws ensued half a second after.
Red tag to a bull. My daughter said that a lot of kids were writing the words down as she said them with glee in their eyes and looking at each other as if to say 'not heard that one before. A brand new taunt to learn.'
The one thing I would say you don't do in such a circumstance is to tell 12 year olds all the offensive words they should not say.
This day was two days ago and now my daughter says that 'faggot' and 'dyke' etc are being flourished with gay abandon in the playground, along with all the other 'banned' words.
Of course white heterosexual men have been so persecuted and denied basic rights haven't they?
Er, no, that's why such a notion is ludicrous. The groups mentioned have been minorities, outsiders or bullied for being different. Having said that there is no need to insult any group really is there? It is rarely funny.
It is just lazy IMO. People are individuals not types.
Of course making a big deal of it is also often unnecessary and counterproductive.
Yes but the white working class were being oppressed by the white upper class. They were not being oppressed due to their colour or gender or anything except for being perceived inferiors by class. So an equivalent now would be calling people chavs, scroungers, benefit cheats, underclass, soap dodgers etc. They were for many years in this country ..called the working class
Anyway I struggle to understand these things, let's demonstrate how different people are and break them down into groups
I teach my kids that people are people and if they are worthy of your affection and respect that's all that matters
ha, I've never heard the term "Soap dodgers" before, it made me think of either men in prison or someone who doesn't watch soap opera's very often.Yes but the white working class were being oppressed by the white upper class. Maybe not, but I'm also tall, thin and bald.Of course white heterosexual men have been so persecuted and denied basic rights haven't they?
<snip>.
They could have a tolerance and awareness day for many other things:
Obese people (can't use the word 'fatty' or 'pork chop')
Bald people ('baldy', 'chrome dome' or cue ball' are banned)
Thin people (no more calling them 'stick', 'skinny' or 'beanpole')
Short people (can't use the word 'shorty')
Tall people (can't say 'whats the weather like up there')
People who wear glasses (no more calling them 'four eyes')
Women (cant call them 'bits of skirt', 'birds' or 'girls' if they are women)
However, there will never be a tolerance and awereness day for heterosexual white men. Anyone can say anything they like about them.
For real? Wow
I can't remember that.I saw an advert for Alzheimer's Awareness once, which made me smile.
Racist!Well I'm very proud of who I am. A white man, proud of my roots. Never been accused of racism though. If you are being accused of racism then you are probably are being racist for the most part

Jesus Christ. That doesn't sound too clever at all giving them a list of words to use!
How long haven't you been allowed to say "fairy" anyway?
Why did the kids need to see her wife also? It is fair enough her talking about things.
For real? Wow
Like every sane person I hate all Muslims apart from the ones I know who are actually alright.
@skybluedan This doesn't apply to you. Please do not treat people how you want to be treated. There's loads of this kind of stuff
I just don't understand why people can't treat people for who they are rather than race, skin colour, sexuality etc
We are here for a limited time, just enjoy life and treat each other how you want to be treated!
.....Lesbos, Les-be-friends, Dykes, Bulldykes, Dick Van Dykes, Spare-Rib-Ticklers, Cat-Flaps, Pussy Footers, Knicker Pickers, Men, Backpackers, Tent-peggers, Trout fishers, Melon Farmers, Kwikfit Fitters, Baggage Handlers, Left Luggage....
Thanks for painting such a vivid picture, Dan. It will live long in the memory.when I was a youngster it was mocked so in my eyes being gay was wrong not lesbians though,
But times change and moves on , me personally don't care what colour you are ,if your straight gay lesbian
Don't like the bi ones though , just think there greedy
At the end of the day there all pink on the inside? I mean I frequently pop my birds poo hole and at the end of the day it's still a shitty arse ? No hairs like but still a bum hole , and if I was flexible I would probably suck me own cock am I part gay? Could never stick anything up me arse though. Don't even like having big shits
I remember the days when "gay" meant brightly coloured.
I used to struggle to understand the LGBT thing many years ago. I just couldn't understand how a bloke could be in love with another bloke or female with female. I think society as a whole has changed my way of thinking. I don't like the "Gay Pride March" thing, or gay weddings. I think that's just taking things a bit too far - just my opinion - but I've known a few gay guys in my time and they tend to be really funny guys, both in their outlook on life and their sense of humour. I started to realise that it's the person and not the gender you should see.
On that note, has anybody seen that documentary about the rich gay couple who had kids?Fair play for progressing with the times. Personally, I don't have anything against gay couples who wish to get married...why should we as a society prevent them from having the same rights as heterosexual couples? I used to be unsure about gay couples having children but now have no issue with it whatsoever and see no reason as to why they shouldn't be allowed to raise children in a loving environment.
