Let them stay! Ricoh owners hold last-ditch talks with Football League to prevent Coventry's move to Northampton

By Neil Moxley

PUBLISHED: 13:27, 16 July 2013 | UPDATED: 13:27, 16 July 2013

The landlords of the Ricoh Arena have made an 11th-hour bid to prevent Coventry City from ground-sharing with Northampton Town next season.

The management company in charge of the site, Arena Coventry Limited, met with officials of the Football League yesterday.

ACL, a joint venture between a local charity and Coventry City Council, was concerned that officials did not have the relevant facts upon which to base their support for the Sky Blues following their decision to re-locate for the next three seasons.

And so senior members of ACL have outlined the finer points of a deal which they hope will be attractive enough for the Football League to re-consider its' decision.

The body had accepted the proposal, made by the club's owners, Otium Entertainment Limited, to play at Sixfields after a dispute between the two parties.

But ACL were unhappy that their own offer to continue to stage matches at the stadium had been rejected and were anxious to put this across to the League in the hope of stopping the temporary switch to the League Two club.

I was previously thinking there would be a last minute deal and we would be playing next year at the Ricoh.
Unfortunately after reading this article and the one from the prison, I now doubt it.

I think SISU will probably have said to the league that it would be impossible for them to "do a deal" over the Ricoh without prejudicing the action that they have pending in high court for the judicial review.

I expect the FL will have just repeated that to ACL yesterday.

Wouldn't it be nice if club stopped chatting to league, ACL stopped chatting to league... and they actually hooked up together?

Maybe both sides have been told by their solicitors not to talk to the other side!.....

The FL probably sent the deaf-squad in again to listen (no offence intended to the hard of hearing)

There has to be compromise, its the only way forward all parties need their heads knocking, at present no one wins, but there are a hell of a lot of losers....

Bit rich really as ACL forced the whole issue anyway mid season which ruined our play off hopes. Seems they want to have their cake and eat it. The Ricoh is viable without CCFC so they say so what is the problem?

and if the offer simply matched the one northampton have put together....... rumoured to be low rent, sharing of income streams on match days, no advertising income or naming rights, cheap car parking, etc ....... in theory

then SISU have a difficult choice dont they
as do the Football League
ACL have to find a way to work with them

But I suspect TF will maintain the ship has sailed and the FL will back him

TF will say it doesnt give the club all its own income streams though wont he ...... ignoring the fact he has decimated the current ones by going to sixfields in the first place

Football league will say they need to protect the integrity of the competition and have certainty

ACL will say they have offered a great deal for probably 10 years (to meet League rules) and can't go further(they probably cant short of doing it for free)

........ it never has been about the rent or a few F&B's ............ it could easily have far reaching effects on the national game ....... have we now got franchise clubs? does the FL have any spine at all? will the government say enough is enough? will the two potentially viable businesses survive seperately?....... will any one ever listen to the FANS!!!!?

When OldSkyBlue58 starts using a few exclamation marks and a hint of very unbusinesslike tone gets into his posts, you know things are getting very serious and frustrating!
Just looking for something to come out of this League/ACL meeting. I'm thinking - no news is good news?

Doesn't Mr Appleton decide where we play rather than Tim if that happens?

Yes I agree with you but it's the timing of events I take issue with plus ACL still don't and will never get the money back so what have they achieved?

Appleton runs, the business until we are out of administration, which if ACL request their lawful 28 days to think cooling off period. that will be the 19th of August. It puts Appleton right on the spot, for a start he can play at the Ricoh for free. He knows he is under great pressure with this and his decision will get nationwide attention, I suggest we start re-routing the FL e mails to him.

If we started at the Ricoh does anyone think there's a good chance that we'd stay there or will Young Timothy get his wish to see us 35 miles away?

Don't think that any figures for ACL have been posted with a loss yet, but no figures have been posted since they had no money off the club yet I don't think.

They really did try and force us into admin for quite a small amount really, especially as they have drawn down on the escrow account , and also had the income from the(I think) 900 car park places that the club get as part of the rental deal(obviously withdrawn due to the rental issues).

The club car parking income alone potentially around the £200,000 mark last season to ACL.

You'd almost think that ACL had an ulterior motive for attempting to put the club into administration wouldn't you?

Bit like distressing them to get them on the cheap for instance, God forbid!

Lord, that wasn't what I was implying. But you knew that.
He's the one poster on here whose thoughts I'd miss if he didn't post. Not saying I understand everything he says though.
How anyone could be impartial in this shambles.

Round and round we go. If by "ACL forced the whole issue anyway", you mean ACL sought administration then I think Tim Fisher and/or the Sisu's lawyers were driving the timing there: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/mar/11/coventry-city-administration-ricoh-arena

There's being impartial and actually doing work for ACL though as he does.

Generally he has been impartial, but over the last 6 months or so his views have become a little more "skewed".

Lots of talk of "Sisu" plants, and "You must be Tim Fisher" on here, but nobody seems to think it worthy of mention from the other side.

Just have to balance everybody's views all i'm saying really Spion.

I have to disagree with you, Lord. OSB has seemed to me to be quite impartial up till now. Why would he change his stance?
