Best, that is

Still without a club after not agreeing a contract with Rotherham.
I'd have him back if we could afford him, thoughts?

20 goals in 6 years - yes he would be ideal

He'll fit right in then!
Believe he had a bad time with injuries at Blackburn?

I shall not tell you what he earned at Rotherham last season, as you would not believe me.

Add Kieran Agard to that list. Probably too high wages but worth a try

Why do we have an obsession with ex players? Most of them were not even that good.

Absolutely not. The bloke didn't know the offside rule for a start.

I remember one game he was literally offside about 15 times.

The good old Championship days...

15 is nothing compared to the might Huckerby (when he was having one of those days!)

No obsession at all, my friend, I rated him as a good hold up player and scored crucial goals for us.

Looks like he has stolen a living since he left us by the looks of it. Granted he played a fair few games for Newcastle but since then not really done much considering the wage he is likely being paid.

I think it was the FA cup game they were selling them, Blackburn I think it was.

All the kids had them on, he scored a decent header.

No thanks and I don't think he would want a return, he was on the city fan hate list prior to leaving. We need someone that will give 100% and that isn't Leon

He played well for Rotherham after he joined them last winter. Held the ball up very well and one of the first names on their team sheet under Warnock. I understand that they would like him to stay but his demands are high. Considered a mid table championship player, so would be good for us in League 1. I would take him back but I doubt we could afford him. Will end up somewhere like Wigan or Rotherham if he reduces his demands, I guess.

I liked him when he was here, Newcastle was obviously the wrong move for him at that time. Comes across as someone who has a bad attitude though and isn't the goal scorer we need, would be amazing as a hold up player if we still had Armstrong though.

You know nothing about football.

Best is one of the best strikers we've had since coming down from the Premiership. His performances in the wins at Old Trafford and Ewood Park in 2007/08 were top drawer.

Yes all this comments about lazy and bad attitude are nonsense really. He probably has had his day now but at the time he was a great player.

He was strong, committed and had pace. He hit a hat trick I think against Barnsley and he looked like a real prospect.

Fans wanting some never was been like Pope but deriding best is beyond nonsense.

I wouldn't be against having him here at all

How the mighty have fallen eh, i wouldnt want him back wouldnt get his head through door and also would try rob wages:

Coventry City[edit]
On 5 July 2007, he joined Coventry City[6] for a fee of £650,000 decided by a tribunal,[7] with the fee increasing were Coventry to gain promotion to the Premiership by 2010. Following a cheekbone fracture at the end of 2008, Best took his place in the team wearing a protective mask. His return led him scoring three goals in successive matches and consequently gaining a reputation for wearing a "Besty" mask, even after he had recovered from his injury and earning the nickname "Zorro".[8] His distinctive mask became somewhat of a talisman for Coventry City fans, many of whom took to wearing similar masks in the stands as a tribute to Best.[9] On 3 October 2009 he was named Championship Player of the Month for September.

Newcastle United[edit]
He signed for Newcastle United on 1 February 2010 for a fee of £1,500,000 on a three and a half year contract.[10][11] Best made his debut againstCardiff City at St James' Park on 5 February 2010. Best failed to make an impact in his first season at Newcastle as he failed to find a goal and was put behind on form strike duo Andy Carroll and Peter Løvenkrands.

The history of this club is littered with players who have left to a chorus of 'he's shit anyway', who went on to play (and achieve) at a higher level. I remember people would slate Ben Turner when he was here. Aaron Gunnarson was 'just a long throw' to some people. Cyrus Christie was shit apparently. Elliot Ward was a useless lump who then went on to play a key role in Norwich's promotion to the PL. Jay Bothroyd was useless and lazy. Carl Baker was no great loss, but went on to be player of the season at a team that won promotion.

Not everyone thought that of course, but none of them were exactly fans favourites - perhaps Gunnarson was the exception but not many people seemed all that fussed when he left.

Worse one was Huckerby. One of the best players to pull on a city shirt in my lifetime. A lot of people accept that now, but at the time some fucktards couldn't look beyond the fact he'd stray offside from time to time (completely overlooking the fact that using his pace against teams who played a high line was very much part of his game).

Best may not be the best choice at this time, but to suggest he was 'dogshit' when he was here is just laughable.

You are spot on ferret, there's always been fans who thrive on slagging players but websites have increased the venom. We even have players like Jack Finch for instant who has played a a few games as a 17year old ffs! yet there are idiots on here on his case at every opportunity. Pathetic
