It's being reported via CT that Leon Clarke has signed a 2 and half year deal with the club on a free transfer, although nothing on the Club Website.. Has anyone else heard this?

Just read the article. Good bit of business by the backroom staff and Robins to get him in. Bagging 11 goals at Scunthorpe is a good return and we're creating far more chances I'd presume. Hat trick tomorrow would be a great start :-D

They were saying on the radio after the Shrewsbury game it was a permanent deal, one of those where it's initially a loan so he's immediately available but then becomes permanent once the papers are signed.

THERE was a time this season when Leon Clarke had a better strike rate than David McGoldrick.

So it appears to be a shrewd bit of business by Mark Robins to draft in the Charlton striker who hit an impressive 11 goals in 15 League One games on loan at Scunthorpe as a ready-made replacement for the Forest front man.

The City boss admits they are big boots to fill but Clarke, whose tally included two against the Sky Blues in November, is convinced it can be a seamless transition.

“I am not worried about getting goals,” said the confident 6ft 2ins centre-forward who has agreed a two-and-a-half year contract at the Ricoh Arena after being snapped up on a free transfer.

“My loan went well at Scunthorpe where I hit the ground running and I was managing to stick away the chances that I got. Hopefully I can do the same here, which would be nice for me and everyone.

“I am not worried if I am going to score or how many, it’s just a case of getting into the team and that will look after itself.

“This team creates a hell of a lot of chances and that should happen every game and it’s just a case of sticking them away myself.

“Dave has done really well at Coventry and got away from me a little bit in the scoring charts because I missed a few games when my loan finished at the end of November and I went back to Charlton and didn’t play.

“He’s a nice lad, who I know through friends, and he will be a big loss to the dressing room.

But there are some good strikers here and I have to work hard to get in the team, particularly ahead of Stephen Elliott who must have been massively disappointed not to have been picked to play against Shrewsbury after his two goals at MK.”

As well as goals, another target for the striker is to finally settle at a club after taking in a staggering 14 so far in his career.

“It would be nice because I have been to a lot of teams,” said the 27-year-old who started out at his home town club Wolves before permanent spells at Sheffield Wednesday, QPR, Swindon and Charlton with nine loan spells in between.

“It never really fazed me before but I really would like to establish myself in a team for a number of years and hopefully I can do that here.“I don’t know why I’ve had so many teams. When I went to Charlton I just didn’t play. I went there after doing well at Chesterfield and I was told I had to work hard to get into the team but I didn’t really get a chance.

“I don’t think I was given a fair crack of the whip because I only played five games since last January. Sometimes it’s just opinions and you can go out of favour with managers; sometimes it’s form but there are numerous reasons why it hasn’t worked out at other teams.

“When my loan at Scunthorpe finished in November Charlton gave me permission to talk to other teams and literally within a week of me moving back Coventry got in touch.

“I spoke to the manager and he said positive things about the club, the lads and what he wanted to do to progress, and it was a positive conversation. It was just a case of waiting for the transfer window to open and then sign a two-and-a-half year deal, and I am happy to have done that.”

If you look at his clubs, alot were loans in his first 4 years as a pro! The fact Neil Warnock wanted him at QPR saying hes worth the gamble, shows people know hes a player just needs to settle down for a few seasons! Hes scored 20 league one goals in his last 37 league one matchs!!!

Certainly looked a handful when scoring against us at Ricoh - don't think I have seen any striker give Wood and Edge so many problems this season. Hopefully he can reproduce that on a regular basis. He is a different type of striker to McG but fingers crossed can be equally as effective - good work by Robins and/or Waggott.

dont get me wrong, I definately think he is worth the gamble. he has shown he can score goals the last few years, I think its really impressive of Robins to get in another player to replace McGoldrick who has already shown he can score alot of goals in this division this season.

just if there was one question mark on him - it would be that. hasnt really settled anywhere for a long period of time. but thats not to say he wont here. anyways, if he was only here for asix months and got the goals to get us in the top six, im happy anyway!

He doesn't seem to think much of Paolo Di Canio; which is a viewpoint which has some merit to it:

I think it's a similar situation when we got rid of Doyle, McPake, Deegan for free, just to get them off the wage bill.
