Yes they lost £18 million in the championship one year £13 million when relegated - I don't know this year but a couple of years ago losses were down to £5 million a year.

keep saying it, this league isnt about who spends the most, who backs the manager, its about stitching a team together which can get you out of the league. And this is probably more relevant in the championship, your Ipswich's, Forest who have spent a fortune and have got nowhere near in recent years.

Thanks everyone. So they do have losses but I am assuming the reason they can pay John fleck around treble in ages to what we offered him is because they own their own ground and have more fans every week? Is that right? Or are they just spending more than what they have hoping to get out of this league?

Who is this "Madderson" referred to above by marcusp?
I recall a "Maddison" who played for us and who was sold last season. Every player has a price (Man Utd didn't want to sell Ronaldo, but did....same for Liverpool and Suarez), and 99% of them are mercenaries who don't really give a toss about who they play for as long as they get paid - which takes us back to the original point of this thread, Leon Clarke going to Sheff Utd for more money than wewere willing to pay.
One other point, if I recall correctly, Sheff Utd also invested heavily last year and still finished below us - let's hope the same happens again this season!

They spent their remaining Premier League parachute payments well, whilst alternatively Burton showed how knitting a team together at significant less expense can also work.

More to do with levels of income, what they have in the bank and whether owners prepared to put in more than owning the ground

The club itself doesn't actually own the ground but has direct access to most, but not all, income streams the ground generates. The ticket income is still the major part of its turnover at 30/06/2015 they had 2.3m in advance ticket sales!. The football club pays £370k rent it seems from looking at the accounts and picks up the expenses too

Clarke fee was £100k apparently. Refuse to believe we couldn't afford that fee tbh.

3 year deal! Has he ever stayed anywhere that long? He's a decent player but nothing special. He struggles to make the step up from mid table league one level.

Haha 100k for a striker that almost gaurantees you 20 goals in this league, and I bet we weren't even competing... Joke. After we sold Maddison & Vincent and spent none of that money ... Yeah I know the wages are an issue as well as the initial fee, but we have lost fleck, vincelot & reda ( all most likely top earners ) off the books!!! I really hope TM has some decent striker signings due to be announced soon...

I hope they can create their own chances then as I would be surprised if Fleck creates many chances for them.

Clarke has only scored 20 goals in a season once in his entire journeyman 19 club career........the only guarentee you get with clarke is that he will be disruptive and fuck off witihn 12 months.......

We got the most goals and the best fee from his entire career.......lightening does not strike twice.......fuck him.

Id not rule us out of the running for Tom Pope yet, well I'm hoping to be honest. He's 2 years left on his current deal at Bury but they want rid of him and offering him a free transfer.
I'd not be surprised if some of the vincelot money is not used to help him get his contract cancelled at Bury.

Makes you wonder what Bury are paying him.. Then what Sheff Utd are paying Clarke, Fleck was a reported 8k.

Pope will be in no rush to go anywhere without a pay off from Bury or a team that will match his salary as he is coming towards the end of his career, Bury offered my nephew a contract this year but he turned it down to go to Fleetwood as they offered a far better deal.
