It's a good job that football isn't 100% about being a technically good player otherwise we'd ban all football below the PL.

Just having a look at Best's stats.....he scored a grand total of 0 goals in 33 appearances last season......

I rated him last time he was here but can see him doing a Sheffers and not living up to expectations.

The gap in quality between the championship and league one is huge.

You could probably add McGoldrick to that before he came to us. Just hadn't cut it till that point.

Who is believing anything? I'd say everyone is pretty sceptical about any move for Best, however that's not to say there isn't reason for him dropping down a division.

Indeed there isn't but there are probably at least half a dozen clubs he wold look at before considering us.

Said a while back, could be a similar scenario to Mcgoldrick. Bad injuries and loss of form, dropping down could be the way to revive his career.

I think he'd be a top signing and would score a hatful

Bollox, I have to agree with you

You could also use Simeon Jackson, Marcus Tudguy, Stephen Elliot, Callum ball, Roy O'Donovan, Nathan delfouneso, Nathan Eccleston.....and that's just who's played for us in the last few years. There's also a bit of a flaw that you've hand chosen players that have predominantly played league one and two and are proven goalscorers in this league, we signed Clarke when e was second in the goal scoring charts on form and confident. In Best we're talking about someone who's career is a couple of years down a downward spiral from the PL of not regularly playing/scoring, not in form and not confident. We all thought Jackson would score 20 goals in a season, he's in a similar place in his career to Best,

I'm not saying that I wouldn't want us to sign him, but regardless of the gulf in class between the two leagues and the examples you've listed, it isn't guaranteed that someone will step down and score for fun.

Tbh I can't see this rumour being true or that we can afford his wages, I just can't see him agreeing to £2.5-3k pw.

Not really sure about Best. He was no better than ok for us first time round. Since then has moved on a number of times and never really made his mark. But league 1 would give him that opportunity to build confidence and bag a few goals. But he must want more money than we can/will offer

I would take him in a heart beat, we are struggling for any real quality up front, the squad looks seriously short at this moment in time, the clock is ticking.
hopefully the loan deals we need are a done deal and will be announced nearer the big kick off, oh and just to make it quite clear I'm certain we couldn't afford Besty

would love him back, he holds up ball and is capable of magic once in a while. him partnering g thomas, maddison or a new striker would look good imo

Unlike many fans who really were not very supportive of him here I thought he was good value.

However, you take away the former association with the club and the career screams Simeon Jackson all over again.

i dont think messi would have flourished under pressley tbh grendel

i just cant bring myself to judge players from last year, we just did not create anything at all whilst SP was manager.

I always liked Best, good workrate, holds the ball up, runs the channels and has some pace and power. Would rinse this league, if we could afford him and he stayed fit.

Twice the player Leon Clarke is...

Genuinely one of the most enigmatic players I've ever known at this club.

Can think of 4-5 appearances that were absolutely brilliant. In fact I'd say the very best centre-forward displays I've seen by anyone in a Cov shirt since Cyrille Regis (that game against Barnsley, the Cup win at Blackburn, the run around he gave both Wes Brown and Gerard Pique at Old Trafford - I know a Man utd fan who thinks that game ended Pique's prospects under Ferguson). And other times when he dallied and took an extra touch rather than shoot, times when he was too easily beaten to the ball by bog-standard centre halves and just how frustrating that was.

In the end I'd prefer to remember his good days - and there were a few - but if we were seriously talking about signing him again we'd do well to remember the off-days too.

I've just seen someone in here say Best doesn't have any power, wow. He's as strong a player as I've seen for us.

Best was quality, I'd have him back.

Weren't there stories at the time that he didn't like the club though?

Never been prolific anywhere though has he? Can't see him being the 20 goals a season man.

At this level it's more random who scores 20 to be fair. You could've said the same about McGoldrick and Wilson until they scored 20.

It's not the Premiership.

Think it's a fake rumours account looking at the number of Followers (127) and username (FLnewsdotcom).

I seem to remember them too. I think it was to do with the amount of stick that he got from supporters who didn't understand the role he played.

Looks and feels like bullshit to me also. Hope not mind.

Plenty of good strikers still out there.
