Doing the rounds on Twitter that he's in talks with us. Would be a class signing but not the 'saviour' some fans are claiming, released by an average Championship and many failed loan spells. What do we all think? Is it worth spending a large amount of the budget on a player who may not be as hungry as he was all them years ago or if provided service could he score 20 goals in this league?

think its just the usual city fans looking at old players instead of looking to new. if you ask people who they would bring in the first 5 players they name will have been here at some point in the last 5 years

Not sure he is good enough, he doesn't score enough goals. But I didn't want him to leave when he did and in league 1 he would be dangerous under the right management...

Sign him, he will get goals in this league and needs a platform to kick start his career again.

Would be a class signing in my opinion. Yes he's not been at his best but he has the capability to be something special in this league. If he took a wage cut would have to be fairly hefty one I would think then sign him up. Can't see it myself personally, can see him dropping to league 1 but for a Sheffield United/Wigan type team with the budget

In saying that, I don't think he is a 'main' striker but if we bought a main striker who will get 15-20 and then Best chipping in with 8-10 then that would be good. Wages will be a problem.

Said a while back, could be a similar scenario to Mcgoldrick. Bad injuries and loss of form, dropping down could be the way to revive his career.

I think he'd be a top signing and would score a hatful

It would show massive intent to the division getting Best in.

Best could probably still command a salary of about £10k a week I suspect.

Best would be an excellent signing. You'd think no championship club would take him after awful spells at Blackburn, Wednesday, Derby and Brighton so a deal could be struck. He was rumoured to be on around £25k a week at Blackburn though so he'd have to take a large pay cut.

Will he be willing to play for £2.5-3k per week? If not, no chance of us signing him.

A half fit Best would get 15-20 in this league, wages are obviously a barrier. However having not performed for Blackburn - Did get an awful injury after signing - Wednesday, Derby or Brighton perhaps his chances of getting another Championship club on his required wages are slim.

Just being realistic. I hope best signs for us as much as yourself by the sounds of it but let's face it he can do better than us and with some teams having more money than us surely it's a given.

Listen, I'm happy to be proved wrong. Never said he was a bad player as LJC said easily get double figures in this league but my honest opinion is he is better than us and should he want to join us we can't offer as much money as others.

Is he still in contract? If so it will be whether Blackburn aware willing to pay him off as a much as whether he's willing to take a 90% wage cut

Last year of his contract was paid up by Blackburn. If Mowbray can convince him of the project he's taken on then hopefully the money will not be a issue if he wants to enjoy his football again

Has he got pace , no! Has he got power, no! Is he a 20 goal a season striker, No! Why pay high wages for him then.

Is Leon Clarke a good footballer? No. Does he like many other average strikers score for fun at this level? Yes.

In league one he is certainly able to score 20 goals.

Does a striker need pace and power to score goals? What happened to being a poacher, backing into a defender an rolling him, pulling players out to open up gaps for the rest?

Who is believing anything? I'd say everyone is pretty sceptical about any move for Best, however that's not to say there isn't reason for him dropping down a division.

I'm not sure It would be just finance that would scupper this.
He didn't have the smoothest ride with the fans IIRC. Bit of a prickly relationship, hard to Imagine It must be getting on 8-10 yrs ago.
Was he signed by Adams or Dowie?

He's a good finisher at this level, technically he is an appalling footballer.

It's a good job that football isn't 100% about being a technically good player otherwise we'd ban all football below the PL.

Shows how little you know about the league.
