I lent my missus £100 on Thursday.

Got it back again two days later though. Does that count?

Tell you what I will do to enter into the spirit of it. I will avoid meat for the whole 40 days.

I am a vegetarian anyway, but you don't need to know that.

Okay

Sure you do it anyway, but maybe buying a couple of sausages rolls or a sandwich, or coffee, for any homeless person you see on the street

And just stop going on the political threads for a while. They are wholly depressing and no-one seems to budge Thier position the slightest inch, so it can all get a bit roundabouty

I'm a big fan of Lent, for spiritual reasons.
I am a Catholic, for context.

Many, many years ago, during our Knights of Columbus meeting, with discussion on the topic I embraced the fasting to an extent.
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday I will not eat at all. Otherwise, everyday (but Sunday as that's a day of celebration and Mass) I will limit myself to only an evening meal. Some years are easier, others a bit more exhausting, but nevertheless fulfilling. Alongside the daily Rosary, fasting is indeed an eye opening and spiritual endeavor that I would recommend for anyone able and willing.

Wishing everyone a fruitful Lenten season so far, a couple of more weeks to go keep up your endeavors whatever they may be.

You failed then Pete unless one of the things people asked you to do was post on SBT

... and if you'll say yes to anything, I want to read in tomorrow's CET about you sleeping out naked riding the Godiva statue.

I decided to give up red meat and was pretty successful with it until the weekend just gone, Had a sausage batch for breakfast and a steak and chips in the evening. Straight back on it though. Less than 2 weeks to go.

I'm gonna add, that the usual 3:00 pm kick offs for most games conflicts with the 3:00 pm Veneration of the Cross masses in the Catholic church. 3:00 pm is recognized broadly as the time Christ gave up his life on the cross.

Lent along with a lot of religious ideology is an act of surrender to the flock of people who support it to justify a poor life. It was traditionally established as a means of accepting poverty and specifically food shortages. Sacrifice for 6 weeks is really just an excuse for the fact in medieval times food scarcity was something the clergy wanted to communicate to the masses to protest its existence.

Disagree on your broad premises. You are, certainly, entitled to your positions and will not stand in your way or shout you down with any mean spirited rhetoric.

But best wishes regardless to you and your family. Not here to argue you just wanted to express my opinion.
