Seems to have a few hecklers but got to say his goals against is impressive - he has pulled off two fantastic saves in he last few matches another notably today

He pulls off good saves most matches... collects well from crosses too. And some his kicks have led directly to goals

still a little nervy coming out for through balls , and the odd kick goes astray but no more than any outfield player who makes a mistake throughout the match ... the fact some fans berate him and get on his back for this is stupid. Some of the people around me sit there moaning about him like they were Peter shmaicael... when I’m pretty sure they were the last to get picked at school ( like me )

Hardest & thankless position on the pitch

He’s a decent league 1/2 goalkeeper. If he was as good as people think he should be he’d be playing for a championship or premier league team. People need to remember where we are in the pyramid when judging Burge. Or any of our players for that matter.

Goals against is maindly down to robins tactics and the 4 defenders infeint od him

That said he has improved and deserves his starting spot

Gone from 4/10 to 6.5/10

What I noticed at the end of the game was Burge coming to the fans at the front and several of them high 5ing him. Think most realised yesterday that he was one of the main reasons why we went home with a point.

Lee Burge is arguably the top goalkeeper in league 2 - He is shown in 3rd place below in the current official table but not sure how they calculate the table as he has a better overall percentage than anyone else and also let a lot fewer goals in than anyone with similar appearances

To call yesterday’s save a ‘worldie’ is frankly laughable.

Great save. To react to that header and push it over shows great reactions. Doesn’t make him Gordon Banks but it was a great save and it ultimately earned us a point just as much as Biamou’s goal. That point may be the difference between promotion and not.Give credit where it is due.

Some people are just so blinded by prejudice against certain players that they can never acknowledge or see the good in anything they do. Good goal from Biamou yesterday?

You obviously weren't either there, or sitting in the side stand. It was incredible.

To be fair you did once describe a striker who scored a goal every 1,000 minutes as immense.

Hear! Hear!
His reactions were fantastic. It really was a great save. David de Gea would have been proud of that one.
Although I doubt David de Gea would have been quite so proud of kicking that ball on to the roof of the stand, or indeed of turning out for cov against Newport in the first place...”what the fuck am I doing here”?
By cov’s and burge’s standards it was a ’worldie’.

a lot of strength as well. Seen plenty of those where they come at the keeper so fast and powerfully that they still go in.

I wasn’t there like others so maybe I underestimated it, but watching the replay several times I think most keepers in this league would have stopped it, and had that gone in, there would not be much sympathy for him on here.

Don’t get me wrong, I and not having a pop at him, just that a ‘wordie’ is associated with world class, and that was not a world class save, just a point blank block from a tight angle and with normal keeper positioning.

The goal line clearance was technically more difficult

...how do you judge what is more ‘technically’ difficult exactly?

It’s not a competition. Both were important as if we go 2-0 down that’s game over I think

The people whose opinion I respect on here and who follow city home and away say it was a great save...good enough for me.
I have only been to a half dozen or so away games this season but go to all home. Burge has undoubtably improved and but for a couple of howlers has had a very good season. I havent seen a better keeper up the Ricoh this year.

Totally agree both were great defending. Probably a ‘worldie’ keeper would have caught it :woot:

not sure what relevance that has to the debate about whether Burges save was a worldie or not.

Some people just can't praise a player when they do well if it's one they usually criticise.

I’ve watched it on the highlights, that angle really doesn’t do it justice.
Those behind the goal will know how good it was.

He has made mistakes we have all seen them , the basic ability required at this level is questionable as is the quality of the opposition to deliver a decent chance, I can’t really say good or bad but Robins tinkering with the position will give him no confidence .

I don’t think he is ‘ crap ‘ but can’t say a safe pair of hands

This statement for the Newport manager surely settles the debate reference the worldie save yesterday
Newport manager Mike Flynn
One of the key moments from the contest came in a 30 second spell from the 63rd minute.
Coventry goalkeeper Lee Burge made one of the saves of the season when repelling a bullet header from Padraig Amond, while the Irishman was again denied from the resultant corner-kick, this time Dominic Hyam clearing the goal-bound attempt off the goal-line.
And while Flynn was quick to praise the Coventry shot-stopper for keeping his side in the contest with that save, he still felt that the Exiles would have been celebrating all three points had Amond’s effort hit the back of the net.
He added: “The goalkeeper made a world class save, it was a great save I have to say that, but I thought we deserved to win today.

Also, Burge is miles ahead of goalkeepers in league 2 goals against playing the same amount of games - he has only let 25 goals in - i would say w have the best and consistent goalkeeper in league 2 so the stats seem to indicate

Having the best back four in front of him in the division doesn't necessarily equate to him being the best keeper in the division.

If someone kept dribbling all the way into the box and kept giving McNulty tap ins, would that make McNulty the best striker? (And that's not having a go at Burge, who I think overall has done quite well).

Flashes of brilliance but lacking basic skills every goal-keeper should have.
What gets me is when people congratulate him on making a save when that's a goal-keepers job!
Should have been replaced a couple of seasons ago.

So we shouldn’t congratulate McNulty scoring goals because that’s his job?

Yeah, that makes no sense.
So if a keeper makes a winning save in a penalty shoot in the out in the World Cup final , all the players and the fans should just go home in silence...”pah! He was only doing his job”!
As an aside I actually like to get some congratulations when I’ve done a good job in work...but then I’m not a professional goalkeeper.

When has Robin’s tinkered with the position? If Burge has been fit then he has played.
