The abuse burge gets & got last night is disgusting, and I was his biggest critic ( no abuse ) in recent years, but this season he has proved himself to be a decent league 2 keeper.

He makes once mistake last night and the vitirol is out again... but was it his really his fumble that cost us the game ( partly true I accept )... or was it max's two missed headers which could have won us the game... or jodies constant running into brick walls ... or kelly's back passes all the time... or nuzon's shots at goal which nearly went over the roof of the stadium, that lost us the game as much as burge letting one in

Strikers are paid to score goals , they make a mess of their job & its all all part of the game, or they even get praised for "having a go" , a goalie makes one error and large parts of the stadium ( who I guess really know nothing about football ) are on his back for the whole game ( if not multiple games ) and the loss is all down to him. Probably the most highly pressurised position on the pitch

making a scapegoat out of an easy target & the last line of defence, when every player on that pitch is paid to do a job and simply didn't do it & most made many more mistakes than burge last night. All of those are equally responsible , if not more responsible, for costing us games in recent weeks & last night

Not a scapegoat as such-just proved over the last 3-4 seasons that he is not good enough.

Thought a basic skill for a keeper was to be able to catch a ball. That said surely the losses this season are attributed to not being able to score at the other end. Over to you Mr Robins.

People here clearly haven't watched football on five this season. Watch league 2. I'd say 1 in every 5 goals shown are complete howlers from goalies. We are in league 2, it happens. If we could score a fucking goal then the pressure is lifted off gk and defence. Every time I've seen burge this season he's been solid and dependable.

Have you not been watching him for the last 3-4 seasons that have been littered with mistakes and costly errors? Reason he looks "better" this season is the level we are at and a half decent defence protecting him. Had nothing to do last night but conceded a goal.

Not going to lamblast Leigh Burge for that cock up last night it happens to the best, he’s played okay since he got back in the team in my opinion. Not his fault the crazy team formation and tactics Robins employs and wonders why we can’t score.

Robins will solve all our problems and bring back Vincenti on Saturday!!

Christ some of the summer signings have turned out to be poor.

People were shouting it from the rooftops about the "great signings" and the "business we done early" without having seen any of them actually kick a ball. I said I would reserve judgement till about half way through the season (Christmas time) and we would then have a better idea. We are now a third of the way through and people like McNulty,Biamou,Vincenti,Kelly,Doyleet al really haven't turned out so far to be "great early signings".
Grimmer and Rodney Mc are the only real positives so far.

Kelly is a good signing. He is a good player st this level and Vincenti is capable enough.

Kelly is brilliant, he's just being asked to play at 70% of his capability! Grimmer though can't pass for shit under pressure and if we'd ever played a team that could put us under any pressure he'd get shown up defensively too. He consistently gets beaten to the byline by his attacker. He's a bang average L2 full back. One of those players that gets praised just for running around a lot - the Andy Morrell of right backs.

I honestly cannot look at any of the signings and say I don't like .....
a few ain't playing at the potential I believe they could currently yet have shown ability that I like the look of when played in some games or various positions in games.

McNulty for a start if he was to be played in a 442 off Biamou it would help both out in being that 10/20% better. McNulty played the best football of his career off a player who won the ball and fed him in with his intelligent movement in the box. Not dropping out wide or deep to create.

Biamou would likely be better if fed more often from the sides with decent crosses to attack. He showed glimpses of that Tuesday all be it without success but he got his head to them. Haynes or vincenti can help with that.

Vincenti is shifted to often to the left which don't suit him to accommodate JJ switching flanks. He's played better for me on the right, and is another useful outlet.

Grimmer, Kelly, Doyle, Mcdonald, Hyam, and Davies I'm happy with and Andreu I was very pleased until his/our bad luck. O'Brien too I was very pleased with till his two errors set him back. Nazon has also been a rewarding loan so far.

A few tweaks to suit the players strengths will help a lot.

I've defended our players all season for exactly that reason. We can't play such a defense orientated formation and then accurately assess the ability of our forwards. Biamou for example shouldn't have played as many games as he has yet but the 1 time he's played against a high back line at Swindon he got in twice in 5 minutes. I'm still very happy with recruitment but Robins needs to stop strangling the performances.

His kicking is getting better. One or two are poor but he's getting a lot of distance on them. Puts the opposition back four under pressure and lead to our goal today. Credit to Robins, Oggy, Burge and whoever else that has worked on it.

Oh come on! One of the worst I've seen play regularly in between the sticks for us.
Are we all forgetting about his goofs that have coat us in the past?

It is rather hard to judge. He has got a very decent back four in front of him, so has been afforded a lot of protection.

Some games the opposition haven't even had a shot on target.

And when he has been tested has looked wobbly as per usual paticularly the games leading up to Christmas.

Harsh on Burge and on Oggy. I think he is improving all of the time, his kicking for example much improved. He seems much more self assured and confident. Surely some of this is down to coaching?

There is a definite improvement. He used to stay on his line and not commit so many times in the past.

He has most certainly looked more the part this season.

Some Manchester United signings have turned out poor in the last few seasons and cost a hell of a lot more money. It's why you can't build a decent squad in one or two transfer windows.

I think league 2 is burge level we go back up to league 1 we def should be looking for a new keeper, if you offered him to other league 2 clubs now I doubt many would say no, our defence has help too but not messing up!

I think he has improved, his kicking is more consistent compared to last year.

The only thing is that he hasn't been peppered with shots and chances against us like last year, but that isn't something to moan about.

He is only 24, still fairly young for a goalkeeper. His best years are yet to come.

Burge has made a couple of costly errors this season...most notably ‘helping’ the ball into the net from an avg shot v FGR (I think). But he does look more commanding, his positional play improved and his kicking is better. Yes he hasn’t had as much to do this year as the defence has been much stronger but what he has done this season he has largely done competently. On Saturday he pulled off one great save first half and also one from an offside position. Compared to the chesterfield keeper he looked calm, assured and confident.

The Chesterfield keeper made a decent save from Stokes and McNulty in fairness.

Yes he did but both (especially the one from stokes) you would be expecting any professional keeper to make. If burge had let either of them in he would be crucified by some on here. Also I believe the keeper was slow to react to mcnulty’s shot for the goal.
I’m certainly not saying burge is the best keeper in the world but he has improved and is probably as good as any keeper in L2. I think some of the criticism of him is a left over from last season (and before)...when playing behind a poor defence with neither defence or keeper instilling confidence in each other.

Burge seemed to be under instructions to make big up and under kicks from out his hand and they quite effective , the goal even came from one.

I’m a big fan of this tactic , as if you watch goals back there are far more goals scored this way than from seeing a keeper roll the ball out to a centre half.

I cant remember who it was but I seem to remember a stat I read somewhere that one season Man Utds keeper had more assists than Nani.
