Fantastic performance today.

Caught (or punched) everything he came for, good save from a tight angle when Vincenti late on and then a superb save from the last kick of the game.

Deservedly number 1 (would have started the season as no 1 anyway if he wasn't injured), can't believe there are people who think RCC is better, it's not even close.

No I just get irritated when someone has set the bar so low when they actually do what they are paid to do (and more often than not have failed badly) they are fantastic.

It wasn't fantastic.

Fair play to him, couldn't have asked for more.

Surely someone at the club can work on his kicking though. I can live with him not being the greatest but a decent percentage of them should not go straight in to touch. Thats got to be something that can be coached.

Yes, he made that great save at the end (similar to the cup final one tbf) but I'm with grendel here; everything else he did was what you would expect your GoalKeeper to do!

Most of the stuff was standard catching though.

Did well to time waste though

I've been one of his biggest critics but have to say he's improving. Nowhere near fantastic though. I'd give him a 6 which is a decent improvement from his standard 3/4 of last year.

Why doesn't he aim them out of the pitch. They might stay central then.

Because he's told to hit the wide men near the touchline

Doubt I'll ever change my opinion on him. Utter shite. If Robins hadn't re-signed him then he'd have joined Finch in the Vanarama league at best. People now saying he is fantastic is based on the woeful performances he has continued to serve up over the past 3 or 4 years. No coincidence we were relegated with him in goal last season.

Nothing to do with only managing to score 37 league goals all season?

Should position his goalkicks in the middle of his box rather than to the left or right, then maybe he will find out wide men

Yes he did do well.
Did what was expected how can people still moan.
So he kicks a bit shit must have been told To kick to the wingers, fuck me we had plenty of outfield players do the same and balls went out for goal kicks more then getting to the intended target but that seems acceptable.....

Don't forget outfield players are passing under pressure with markers breathing down their necks. Burge has the entire pitch at his disposal, all the time in the world and is unchallenged. Not acceptable to keep 1 or 2 in per game for a professional footballer.

Not gonna wank him off after one half decent performance. He done what a keeper should do. My heart is still in my mouth EVERY time he comes for the ball and his kicking is still shocking!
Granted he made a great save at the death from the corner, but I can't help but feel he should of came for the ball that grimmer (I Think?) headed off the post and out for a corner in the 1st place. Not convinced. He's not a number 1 and can't be praised for simply 'doing his job'for once!

Last week's save was fantastic. Today he did everything that was expected.

It seems a bit of an overreaction to describe a keeper's performance as "fantastic" just because he didn't fuck up anything.

Yes but he is in goal for a reason....
Usually because you can't kick.
Outfield players will always be under pressure so that is a poor excuse.
we have what we have because of the league we are in.

to be fair to him he did kick in the general direction of Vincenti and it was only because Vincenti hardly left the floor when he jumped that the ball went out of play and of course there were the ones he kicked straight out of play

Burge is developing nicely. Still relatively young for a keeper. Don't worry though when he inevitably makes a mistake it will be down to oggys poor coaching on this forum but a thread about him being good and not a mention of him. Odd that.

No, we have what we have because MR decided to re-sign him instead of a better Keeper!

Like having Burge in goal was not the only reason we were relegated. As well as 37 goals scored, a poor defence in front of him, and disastrous recruitment that left us poorly equipped in a physical and competitive league. I know that Burge needs to continue to improve, but anyone heard of 'give a dog a bad name'?

Exactly, people seem to forget we are in Division f**king 4. Long gone are the days of keepers like Oggy, Hedman and Westwood.

RCC basically threw about 4 into his own net in the first 6 or so games last season, Burge came in and was fine for the rest of the season.

O'Brien makes two howlers in two games, so Burge comes in and does well.

Yet people would rather have RCC or O'Brien, I just don't get it.
