Same as last season...he is not good enough.

We need a keeper with a bit more pedigree

Wouldn't think too many will disagree.

You can tell the defence don't really trust him, he did well to get Ricketts I think out of a mess with a dodgy pass back though.

I don't think he's too bad and there are other positions I'd rather we strengthened than GK.

Yes he should have saved the penalty but that doesn't suddenly make him a bad keeper , same as O'Brien isn't suddenly a bad player for missing a penalty.

Said after the match today to someone, swap the two keepers around and we'd probably have won 5-0.

I don't think its much of an exaggeration to say we'd have comfortably won that match if the keepers were on opposite teams.

O'Brien has credit in the bank with previous performances, Burge doesn't

No command of his box. Back 4 have very little faith in him.

Yes Bentley played a blinder.
6 goals conceded in the last 3 games is very worrying

He didn't play badly today but his distribution is poor. I agree with those who think the back four don't entirely trust him but I think they didn't play well as a unit first half. Defensively Reda and ricketts had their worse game so far

But watch him closely. He very often doesn't know whether to come out and claim or hold his ground or stay on his back line. Very indecisive. That gives the back four the heebee jeebees,

I agree but my point is today Reda and ricketts created their own mistakes; missing balls in the air, poor distribution at time and the odd foul. I think what the Crewe and Southend games have shown is that a big competent centre forward can put pressure on our defence. Wigan didn't have that option and their attacking play went nowhere.
Yes I am not 100% confident in burge but I honestly though the didn't do too badly tonight

What the hell did he do wrong tonight? Their keeper didn't even play that well, should have saved our second goal. Majority of our efforts were down his throat. The save in the last minute was a good one.

I don't think Burge did much wrong, he just seems to be the new whipping boy, their keeper was excellent and basically the only reason we didn't win the game comfortably

Although I don't watch him week in week out, I could see a big difference between him and Bentley tonight, who is 6 months younger than Burge. Looked confident, pulled off some great saves (not including the pen in that though; Obrien made it too easy for him to save), his defence needed him and weren't afraid to use him.

DO want it to work out for Burge, but I feel with the defenders in front of him visibly not confident in him most of the time, something may need to change!

No team ever gains promotion with their keeper being a liability. I like Burge but just don't think hes a league one keeper week in week out

Beginning to stick out like a sore thumb as our weak link. Replacing him is crucial if we are to challenge the top half this season. Was involved in being culpable for the 1st and should've saved a penalty that was straight at him. Gifted Walsall their winning goal last week. The bloke is a statue.

I beg anyone who doubts what I'm saying to analyse him closely during the next match. Utter shite!

he didnt have an especially bad game tonight but the guy at the other end of the pitch showed what a difference a good keeper makes.

Why is Reda Johnson getting no stick, did anyone see that monstrosity of a performance at the back?

Sorry but I don't think just doing nothing wrong is enough to merit a place in the team anymore, he looked solid as he had nothing to do. I'll post what I did on another forum.

he's doing the routine stuff ok and handling looks decent which you would expect from any academy goalkeeper in a professional football academy but I'm not seeing him make saves where I'm turning to the person next to me and saying 'that was an excellent/great/good save' or 'he's saved our arse there'. I'm not asking him to save every shot but one every now and then would be nice.

I don't think its too much to ask as keepers every week at this level are excelling themselves and saving shots which look certain goals and stopping goals when the attacker looks favourite to score.

Just doesn't give any confidence to the fans or defence, every time the opposition have a shot on target I'm expecting a goal at the moment.

Ricketts basically said that the goal was down to the defense as they didn't move out quick enough to give Burge the room for the save. The penalty he almost saved, he read it right just couldn't get down quick enough. His problems as I see it is his kicks, they're a bit scatter gun although I would say they are improving and he just needs to be a bit more decisive and possibly talk/shout at the back row a bit more.

I still think he's better than people are giving him credit for and he is improving although I will concede that he still needs to improve even at this level.

But given that Ricketts has put his hand up and said that the defense let the goalie down on one goal and their other was a penalty it would be harsh to blame tonight's result on his shoulders. If we had of scored with the last touch of the game we probably wouldn't even be discussing it.

Yes Burge was the real problem tonight not Fleck who couldnt pass to a blue shirt and gave possession away in his own half loads. It wasn't Reda Johnson getting pulled out of position for the first 45 minutes. It Wasn't Murphy who was awful in the first half. It wasn't the midfield who didn't track one run from the opposition in the first half hour causing us to get opened up at will.

Really it was all Burge's fault for not scoring a hattrick, Saving a penalty and coming for a cross which he had no chance of getting. FFS some people really need to watch and understand the game.

You can't criticize others for not understanding the game when you believe that a goalkeeper is capable of scoring a hat-trick. He didn't even go up for a corner..

Unfair Burge didn't do a lot wrong bar some poor distribution. A lot of players (Rickets, Reda, Fleck & Vincelot) were worse than him.

For someone the back four doesn't trust they play a lot of needless back passes to him.

One frustration I have is when taking free kicks 30 yards from his goal, he slowly saunters back.

I wasn't even talking about tonights match, out of interest what relevance do Reda Johnson, Fleck and Murphy have to do with Burges ability as a goalkeeper. I make it no relevance what so ever. Point to me where I specifically mentioned anything about tonights match in that post? nowhere, so your points are irrelevant.

It was an assessment of how Burge has done in his 5 games this season and a few games last season, not an assessment on why we didn't win tonight.

He made one save all night.

If his name was Ryan Allaopp and he wasn't "one of ours" people would be over him like a rash.

He's not improving and he's not very good.

Sorry Wasn't aim at you specifically. But he did nothing wrong tonight and had no chance with either goal. He had a fairly solid game and nearly saved the penalty. He'd have had to have been so far out of his goal for the cross for the first one that the goal would have been left wide open. Lots of people have jumped on his back and are using him as a scapegoat. There were a LOT more problems than our keeper on the pitch tonight.

I think the club would benefit from getting in an experienced keeper , alot of people are on the fence about burge . I have never felt totally comfortable with him

I agree there were worse performers than him out there tonight, Johnson most notably I would say.

What I'm saying is based on the 22 games he's played for us and after giving him a chance I've came to the conclusion that at this moment in time he's not good enough

He has no real presence or authority in that box ..very static and remains on his line at times when he should be there claiming the ball

If you match 11 v 11 the one obvious better player they had was the goalkeeper.

He's not good enough for a team with hopes for promotion
