Leave poor Freddie alone! (2 Viewers)

I've been observing this forum for a while, but what has compelled me to register and post is my inability to digest all this Freddie bashing that so many threads seem to develop into.

This kid comes under fire regularly for his performances, but there is no logic behind it.

Even in the couple of pre-season fixtures i managed to catch (Nuneaton/Hinckley), he was clearly far from fit and wasn't 100% but he didn't fail to get involved either.

In the Nuneaton game he was relatively quiet, but he held and distributed the ball well, even playing in McSheff with the goal that was ruled offside.

In the Hinckley game, admittedly he wasn't involved in every play, but when the ball came to him, he held it confidently, spread it around well, linked up promisingly with the youngsters, netted a goal, and in another passage of play confidently took the ball around the keeper and was unlucky not to net a second.

This kid is an excellent reader of the game, is happy to take a shot whenever he finds himself in space with the ball, he has trickery, he has vision, and his distribution is SUPERB, and his goal to game ratio in the games where he's actually played a full game in his preferred position is far from the picture that is regularly painted. How other people cannot see this is beyond me; Instead of digitally regurgitating the moans and groans of the miserable oldies in the stands, perhaps you should open your eyes and have a good look at Fredster! He could be GREAT for us.

I wont tell you how he contributed 6 goals last season, even though he played only a handful of games due to a long term injury (please nobody tell me he didn't score in the games that Boothroyd didn't sub him on until minute 87 because frankly it doesn't and shouldn't count). This same season that saw Juke net 9 (Several from penalties), and our old buddy Marlon only doubled Freddies tally even though he was the favoured one.

Watching David Bell regularly run around like a headless chicken, go nowhere with the ball, get consistently caught in possession, ruin developing attacking plays by getting trapped and sending the ball back to our defence, it baffles me how you people can't appreciate Freddie!

Him and Lucas started to strike up a decent little partnership last year, and I look forward to peacocking around here when they do so again this season.

If you want to slate a player, we have some really viable candidates; I don't feel like Freddy is one of them!

no need to slate him, he is injured and wont be hear next season due to 2 years of underacheiving......

:wave::wave:

Not slating him, he is just going the way of Morrell, Simpson etc etc....

Good luck to him at Southened next season, they will welcome him with open arms

I don't think many people doubt he has some quality with the ball at his feet. It is more his attitude and lack of work rate and lack of off the ball movement that annoys me and some other fans.

gladly leave him alone ..... especially on match days when the rest of the squad go play the match

ability but not the application .... its a shame but its his choice

I don't question his skills, it is just his effort. :( If he had a better work rate he would be a hell of a player!

I agree with O P , too much negativity.

We certainly know how to piss our players off, no wonder the gates are dwindling. No one enjoys playing for us, and no one will be encouraged to go up to the ricoh when they are surrounded by mindless moaners.

Do fans really slate Freddy other than through forums??

Its just that former CCFC have players have had the written moans on forums just like Freddy, but they also had to endure verbal slatings aswell (Kyle, Best, Gray.................) so Freddy IMO has got off lightly!

There have been many occasions where fans could get on his back verbally, booing his every touch, but they havent! I think thats because people can see that he does have some qualities about him, however he doesnt show it half as much as he could!

His body language / attitude when he got chances towards the end of last season was poor, if not non existant! He didnt want to be there, and I didnt see too much in pre season to suggest he's back to the Freddy we thought we were buying!

I think in all honesty we brought him 1 season too late! Had we got him instead of Wolves, I think we may have seen a better player. However the torrid time he endured at Wolves seems to have effected him in a way, not even he can explain. He seems to have lost everything he once had at Southend!

Im all for giving players a chance, but dont you agree he's had enough of these?

I think whenever he has a good run in the side he does well and does get us goals. Remember last season when he had a spell of about 5 goals in 3 games or something?

I find it unfair how people slate Freddie for not caring but McSheffrey is out of position. I would like to see Freddie get a good run with fitness and confidence. It isn't just scoring, he has a great footballing brain so gets a few assists too!

AH, back to the FANS fault !!!

STOP MOANING you lot, you won the FA CUP in 1987 and have spent several thousnad pounds watching hundreds of players that dont even mention they played for cov before, and YOU ARE LUCKY !!!

I watched a programme last week and Huckerby said "I was lucky in my career to play for teams like Newcastle, Norwich, Man City and Leeds"

I think Freddie is a great player and has a huge potential, always rated him. But as others have said his work rate just isn't there. 1st game of last season i felt showcased what skill he has got, in the right place at the right time and a good header of the ball. I would be sad to see him go because I feel he has the talent within him, just no conviction when it matters. Hope he returns soon and if he puts more effort it, i can see him doing well partnering Juke

The reason he gets a hard time is because of exactly the reasons you say - he clearly has the ability but his attitude has been poor. His work rate at times is so bad, he doesn't work a back 4 like a forward should. Referring to one game last season just weakens your argument to me - he's been here 3 years and you recall 1 game when he played well.

He's been a massive underachiever, I actually wouldn't compare him to morrell as I think it's unfair on morrell who worked his balls off. Juke sweated blood for the team on Saturday, if freddy put in half the effort Juke did he'd be thought of in much higher regard.

It's such a Shame but it's clearly not right

Having said all that if he's gonna prove us wrong this is the season to do it!!!

Why is someone mindless for questioning the application of some of our players? We pay their wages therefore I think we are entittled to express an opinion between each other, after all this isn't a dictatorship.

In my opinion questioning the club & players is the complete opposite of mindless.

I dont get how people slate Freddy and they are usually the same people who love McSheff.

Although last season he scored 2 goals less with less than half the starts McSheff had so what does that say? Whenever he gets a decent run in the team he gets goals. I don't know if it is fitness that stops the run or something in training but I think not last season, the one before he got a few goals including a hat trick on the bounce too.

I've got two problems with this thread, he ain't poor and he ain't a kid no more. As for his ability he's had plenty of chances to show it and has'nt, that makes him a liability.

One played upfront and the other on the wing/CAM for a start.

McSheff got most of his goals in that position for us though? I say give Freddie a few games as a chance with Jukebox when he is fit and if he can't be arsed then he has blown it.

Will the people who call other fans mindless morons,or other insulting comments, for not agreeing with them, please go and find something else to do.
I hate people who moan, moan,& moan everytime someone says something slightly negative about Cov or has a different opinion from them on a player.
By the way i'm a big fan of freddy, but i do have other opinions also, if thats OK,and i'm definately not right about everything I say,but no way am i a moron or other
Its a Forum, for fans of the club.

I don't understand your point Mcsheffery scored more goals from a midfield position than Freddy did playing upfront. Admittedly Mcsheffery had a lot more game time.

I will stand by my opinion, if I get sulky and don't do my job properly, I get disciplined. He sulks on the bench and does little more on the pitch...

(Edit: and gets paid # grand a week for it.)

Well Freddys playing in Div1 next year, it won't be with us even if relegated, he can try and show us how prolific he is in that league cos at championship he has fallen well short. There were times when Clinton was preferred to him which were wrong, he was often played wide left which was wrong but 3 seasons after his £1.2M move, only 17 goals and multiple injuries he has been a huge disappointment.

Not sure how bad his injury is but this is the season to prove the majority of Cov fans wrong.

He's probably got earache after Morrision's moaning. In truth that partnership never worked, Freddy was always too deep.

Glady! Alone in the bleedin' dressing room where he can't interfere with the rest of the lads who want to get out there and play football! The bloke is a waste of good breathing air! MY opinion!

Yes I am a ST holder. I believe the score was 1-1 with freddy scoring.

Last season Freddy picked up an injury after the first game where he scored two;

Freddy was reintroduced to the team during the Ipswich game where he scored one, then following the dismissal of Marlon after a controversial challenge he put in what could only be described as a man of the match performance and eventually ended up being moved onto the left wing, and he covered EVERY blade of grass on the field.

The next game was against Away side Barnsley, and on the back of Marlon's suspension Freddy had a chance to make his name. He scored in a 2-1 defeat.

The following game was the cup game against Crystal Palace, where Freddy not only scored ANOTHER goal, but also drove forward, upset the defence, turned and played a really sexy ball to Carl Baker who volleyed it into the net.

Then at Sheffield at home, Coventry had 12 shots on target, 9 off; Guess who was responsible for a number of those?

QPR away game followed; The one that was televised on SS. Coventry lost 2-1 (Taraabt is a beast, what can I say). The one goal in that game scored by King was as a result of Eastwood passing defenders, running towards the line, and from a wide position, he had the vision to identify that McSheff was in a better position to make the cross than him, and that vision created the goal. Freddie was unfairly subbed early during that game as I recall.

Then inexplicably in the Birmingham FA cup game that followed, Freddy was dropped in place of CLIVE PLATT!!!! Freddy watched from the sidelines as Coventry gave away their lead. He was sent to warm up a whole host of times before he was finally subbed on for Platt in the 79th minute when we were 3-2 down. Can you blame the kid for being annoyed?

Following that game, and King returning from suspension, Fred barely got a look in for the rest of the season.

3 goals and one assist in 5 games, and being instrumental in built up play that created another isn't someone who I feel is deserving of the overwhelming criticism he gets on this forum.

The Rev; You misinterpret my post. I'll accept your apology in advance.

In short, my point for all of you people, is that Freddy has talent, and everytime he's been given a chance, he's performed, and has been an important cog in the workings of the team. Review the evidence, and don't just regurgitate the opinions of the grunters in the stands!

If you were Freddy, got messed around and played out of position, and offered up as a late substitute for the best part of two seasons and read unjust criticism about yourself on the forums, could you be blamed for feeling a little unloved and not performing at your best anyway?

Freddy just needs a hug and a good run in the team. He'll be the man!

And the guy who wrote 'Thank god lazy tw@' - Your opinion is very much appreciated; Thanks!

Not good enough. Never has been never will be and whilst he's earning he doesn't care. You can take the man out of the caravan but not the gypsy out of the man.

I have no real opinion on freddy in the past but actually how many more years are we going to say 'this guy is a talent' or 'he will come good eventually', 'he has potential'. He will always be a part player at city, he is not good enough for the championship and he found his level at southend. Sorry i dont wish the chap any ill harm but we need to get rid finally.

Freddy eh....every year we get the same post's give him a chance, he's lazy, he's unlucky, he's in division one soon, he's our best player. The managers must see something in him though he has played for enough and is still here ffs!!
