League one step up? (1 Viewer)

First few games this season I was thinking there was a noticeable step up in quality from lge 2.

Looking at the table now 2 of our fellow promotion buddies are above us so is there a step up after all?

I’d say the players on general are a lot more athletic and pacy than in league 2 and teams try and play more football , but actually a lot of teams in league 2 play much more effective , hard to beat stuff

I thought we saw better teams last year. I'm yet to be impressed by anyone I've seen this year.

Have to agree Accrington Stanley were far more impressive last year than Portsmouth were this year as an example.

The times we struggled last season, was against defensive minded, bullying teams. The opposition aren't quite so defensive in this league and I think the experience some of our younger players had in those hard times last season has toughened them up too.

I thought Pompey ‘shut up shop’ with aplomb. Not sure any teams in league 2 could’ve done that.

We were only out of the league for 1 year, not going to be a massive change.

I think teams are noticeably better. Last year a lot of teams came to the Ricoh with the same plan as Wycombe did last week, to time waste and try and sneak a draw. Most teams this season I think are a lot more open and try and play football. I think we can cope as we have improved from last season too.

I don’t see a massive difference to be honest three of the promoted teams are in the top half and winning well, biggest plus for me regarding us is we have strength in depth and all positions covered and barring something crazy should handle injuries and suspensions not sure if others could

Best team this year for me have been Barnsley, but impressed with Forest Green. (But against our 'B' team, so may have flattered)

Best team last year for me, Swindon.

I have noticed a step up in quality. Every team has the ability to score goals and play a fair bit. Southend,as poor as they were, stretched us in parts of the game and Bradford too.

I thought at the before the start of the season we would be thereabouts as there is hardly any difference in the teams. I still think that we will be top six. The next step if we get up will be massive. But I think that our young ones benefitted form a tough season last year and will go on again. But If we do go up, I think that we will need to replace a few of our players but not as many as I thought we would. I think the team is growing nicely

I think we have improved fairly significantly as a team since promotion. The standard in League one is higher, but it's also different, as mentioned, teams play football at this level, whereas league 2 really is just a slog.
Standard of Reffing is better, although not really hard to improve, and still more mistakes and bad performances than there should be.

Sunderland, Portsmouth, then Barnsley and Charlton, Peterborough, Accy and Luton.

You would have to think Accy are susceptible to injuries/suspensions if and when they happen, and one or two of the others are inconsistent.
These for me are the main contenders. If we finish above a couple of those, we'll make the play offs.

Excellent point and probably the standout differential. The standard of refereeing in the League Two was borderline unacceptable last season. I presume it hasn't changed.

There is a step up in the league. Maybe as we have 4 wins on the bounce people are forgetting this.
I was speaking to Tom Bayliss after the Sunderland game and he said the noticeable difference is the draining impact. After games in league two he felt that players had fuel left in the tank. In league one he has felt knackered and some players have made mistakes because of this. Which is evident in the early games.

I do think that the players have found there feet and now are accustum again to the pace of league one and the results are coming in
