It's a big step up for him as it is for cody, thought ALF looked livelier. Let's hope cody gets better as he gets fitter but he hasn't done much at the ricoh yet
ALF looked the sharper of the two but given the preseason McDonald hasnt had then it shouldnt be a surprise. Was disappointed by McDonald though, looks over weight and on the day offered not a lot
Further to comparing ALF on Saturday and refering to Cody in comparison looking "unfit", " podgy", "overweight", "no pre-season" etc.
I remember a certain forward who resembled the above when he joined CCCF in fact it was that noticable he was very quickly called SUMO - yes, remember him the fabulous Micky Quinn.
Micky did'nt even look like a footballer but on his own admission was the fasted over one yard.
Micky joined us from Newcastle in 1992 until 1994 and promptly scored 10 goals in his first 6 games and went on to suffer the CCFC striker curse somewhat but still scored a total of 25 league goals in 64 games (that would be the equivalent of scoring 18 goals in a 46 game season).
So let's just hope Cody has got a few goals lined up very quickly as appearances shouldn't thwart a natural instinct to score goals and the criticism will gather momentum unless he does so.
I actually thought McDonald was poor on saturday. There were a few times he took up bad positions and a few occasions where he could/should have pressured their defenders a bit more. I'm probably being over critical as alot of the problems stemmed from the midfield and our inability to adapt when it was clear Reading had nullified the threat of the diamond.
but still - he hasn't had a proper pre-season nor has he had games. It worries me slightly because how often do you see players who didn't have a pre-season go on to have ineffective seasons. It seems to happen all the time. I hope it isn't the case this year because if it is i fear the worst.
Two things about their goal.... first, it looks more like a lucky pass that went straight through the defenders legs. And second, not sure if it was Craine or Keogh but why did they stop marking Church when the other CB could have covered Le fonde?
Isn't that the typical school boy defending where you end up chasing the ball rather than sticking to your player!?!
