Personally, I don’t think so on the current viewing. It’s not out of the question though because we’re 8 points off that now.

Looking at last season, we were 5/6th and finished below Boro who were probably around our position at the same point this year.

Get a few good players in this month, bring back the star players from injury and finish the season on a high and the good vibes at the club return imo.

agreed. And if we did finish top 8, I’d imagine most fans would be happy. Team go up: fans happy. Team go down: fans not happy. It really is that simple.

I don’t have a second account I have an unpopular view which has created the pile on.

I think King has been good for us, Robins brilliant but had some flaws, our scouting broadly good, our players do care.

This isn’t inline with the herd mentality of some.

I have said I want Lati to stay. Two million is not a great deal in football these days.
As far as King goes, the concern is he is a Board of one, so no checks and balances or anyone in authority to nay say him.
Analyse his tenure. Four year contracts to Mark and Adi. Almost everyone happy with that.
Vik and Gus leaving was a fait accompli. The remuneration received was again very good. Fans sad to see them leave but we were more than adequately compensated. O'Hare was a judgement call. Don't think many people would have given O'Hare a contract when he first came back from injury and at the end of the season it was too late. Again, can't blame King. Kudos for the money we got for Vik and Gus.
Off field improvements necessary and excellent.
From here onwards it gets more problematic. There was a policy change in recruitment this season. Mark always followed the same template season after season which made him successful here and that changed. No older players with no resale value who would want high wages and no loans that cannot be traded for profit. Young players, particularly forwards that were bought to be improved and can be sold for a profit. My opinion only, but shared by a lot of fans that this has left us with an unbalanced squad lacking leadership. My question would be at this juncture, Did Mark change his approach or was there directives from above? If you look at Mark's interviews something was making Mark unhappy.
The club restructure. Early days, but has coincided with poor performances on the pitch. Boddy gone.
Mark's sacking. I think it was premature. I cannot find anyone outside of Coventry who thinks it was a good idea. Stoke is going to be an ideal comparison to see if it was a good decision.
Concerns are; a Board of one is a dictatorship and history tells you how they all end in tears. We are at a pinnacle with record season tickets, increasing gates and massive merchandise sales.
King has done a load of good things for the club including not being SISU. He will be judged by where we finish this season and in the coming years. Also if the current support is increased and if the finances of the club improve. Oh and the quality of football on the pitch. Clearly, it could go either way.

It is, because it's too short a time to make a realistic judgement on the effect that he's had is.

I don't expect people who watch shit football to be happy; I'm not happy, but that doesn't mean that I don't think it's better for sufficient time to pass before judging if someone or something has had a positive or negative outcome.

A shit season doesn't necessarily make a shit owner, is my point.

Well it would be two shit seasons. People aren’t going to hang about and wait, they’ll just not go and come back when it’s better. Obsessive like us may justify things with “transition years” and the like but most people just want an enjoyable Saturday.

I feel like I’m going round in circles. I’m literally just saying your average fan wants to see the team progress in the league. If you do attendances go up if not they go down. This place is insane right now so of course I’ve had to spend thirty posts defending this blatantly obvious observation.

Everyone wants to see progression in the league. Not every season is going to be a success, though. And,

"I don’t like King cos he’s reversed the course of the club."

is a silly thing to say.

Reserve your judgement until such a time has passed that a statement like that has some credibility.

Just so I can keep track. We’re on 3 years minimum for King and 2 for Lampard before anyone can raise any issues?

I do think all the things I care about have gone backwards since he arrived and fairly quickly. I think most will just look at our lowering league position and say the same.

I don’t think anyone has to give someone years before they show competence to judge them on their job.

If your life had have been a bit different, and you'd have been born in a slightly different time in a slightly different place, you'd have been screaming for Ferguson's head, wouldn't you.

Success isn't always instantaneous. When it isn't, it doesn't necessarily mean incompetence.

Have your doubts, sure, I do too, but I'm not going to be so daft as to suggest that the club's being taken backwards at this early stage.

Problem is we know the hardcore isn't anywhere near the numbers we get now.

People who have started coming to games because we were at Wembley regularly, winning games and playing decent football aren't going to be buying season tickets next year if we have a poor season and there's a perception we aren't splashing out in the transfer market.

As quickly as people jump on the bandwagon when things are going well they'll leap back off it when things aren't going so well.

They won't be interested in a big discussion about failed transfer targets or loan players we nearly got in.

Ferguson would not have lasted so long without winning the league at the start of time at Manure in the modern age .

We've had a couple of.promotions and got to a cup semi final , success? No promotion to the PL for 23 years . Sisu disconnected most fans from the club, Robins bought the feel good factor back but not let's not make out we've been massively successful. I'd expect a club of our size to get out of League 1 & 2 at the very least when we were down there . Most of the football and results this season have been poor, look at Oxford appointment a new manager and have caught us up. FL has been average so far in terms of results.

I stuck around all through the 70's onwards....
Most of it wasn't progress. Part of an enjoyable Saturday is watching good football. In my book there is no joy in beating poor opposition, good opposition yes! And if the opposition are better than you take it on the chin.

Most teams in the league structure don't show year on year progress. It ebbs and flows.

Too many fans on here sound like they need the Samaritans rather than the next football match.

No, but that's not really the point. It was just an example (the most obvious one) of success not always being instantaneous, and it not always being due to incompetence when it's not.

Presumably then just coincidence that record breaking season ticket sales occur following 4 visits to Wembley, winning a cup and a league title with 2 promotions?

Because unless its a coincidence people that have suddenly appeared because of the success, whether you deem it worthy of the title success or not, may well just as quickly decide this isn't as much fun as they thought it was and choose to spend their weekends, and their money, elsewhere.

It's as simple as that for me. People aren't sitting down making analytical decisions on if they renew or not. They're going this is expensive and not as much fun as it was.

Anyway, Latibeaudiere.

My main gripe if he goes is we missed a glorious chant opportunity with not going for Bon Jovi.

But then I'm still sad about Hyam the One and Only too, so perhaps best not listen to me on this matter.

Does anyone care what people outside Coventry think? I’m taking that as people who have no attachment to the city or Sky Blues (I don’t live in Coventry and never have done).

Given the relatively poor results, supporters of other teams might have quite liked those to continue under Robins management. Journalists have no “skin in the game” which makes it so much easier for them to consider it madness to part with him. FFS even Jimmy Hill was dispensed with, and that for non football related reasons.

Comparisons will be, but shouldn’t be, drawn with Stoke. It’s a completely different deck with different attributes, skills, temperament and balance.

Presume he's still mates with Gibbs-White & Hudson Odoi from their England Youth days, pretty poor form to bin off a supporter meeting at short notice though.
