A change in formation, and a fairly direct approach give the Sky Blues the best chance of ending the Preston hoodoo.

Their wing backs were getting very high up the pitch I notice, something to be wary of and / or exploit.

Kesler-Hayden does on the right.

It was Hughes on the left last night, who doesn’t venture too far forward

What are the quality of teams that play a back four compared to a back five though? Their most impressive wins as of late are beating Middlesbrough and Norwich who both play a back four. They also got a point against Burnley who also play a back four.

As far as I can see the wins against teams in a back five were against us, Watford x 2, Sheffield Wednesday and Luton. Hardly that impressive?

Im fairly certain we’ll set up in a back five with the option to shift to back four when Mason Clark comes on.

Yeah basically none of the top teams play 5ATB, though then why should we, as a top team now?

I think EMC will start too.

that's four wins against teams in the play-off mix who play wing-backs. A good effort I'd say.

I wouldn’t as we were 20th at the time. They have wins against Watford and Wednesday and I would argue neither will be near the play offs at the end of the season but I take your point.

They were rubbish for 20 games opening the season and didn’t win a game against a back 4 until December. In that time they won 3 against back 5’s. 2 of those wins were against us and Luton who were both equally rubbish at the time.

It would be better to analyse the results and formations since their turn of fortunes in my opinion. I highly doubt Lampard will view these stats as anything to be concerned with. We will switch to back 4 when EMC is ready, not because of a quirky stat.

Excuse me! I was whinging that we’ve been crap since abandoning long ball and going back to trying to pass through teams, particularly better teams like Leeds and Ipswich. I thought the run from Bristol to Leeds was mostly from accepting our limitations and playing our football further up the pitch.

Sorry
That was on the trump thread lol
I do agree though that Lampards success has come from not pissing around at the back and getting forward more quickly

This is a good article worth a read:

Momentum, Patience and a Back Three: How Frank Lampard Has Coventry City Flying Up the Championship | Opta Analyst

Coventry City are one of the Championship's most in-form teams. Can Frank Lampard lead them to a top-flight return?

Need to find out who the subscriber is at the club.

Firstly signing Dovin.

Now following my tactical analysis

12 games to go including 7 of the bottom 8

It's an odd set of fixtures 7 of the bottom 8 as you say and 4 out the top 6 with the other game been Middlesbrough. Does mean most teams have something to play for. I'm hoping for 20 points from the last 12 games.

You’re almost better of playing teams with nothing to play for. But then that can backfire also
