If you think we’ll hit that form twice a season I guess. It triggers a few in here but it’s a fact that he’s had ten games pretty poor ten games unbelievable then back to pretty poor for ten games. At the moment the ten game purple patch looks more the exception than the rule.

I think we’ll be 5-10th next season like the last three.

I said in February he should stick with 5 at the back and I still think moving away from it was a mistake, but we're still in with a chance and to have it in our own hands with 1 home game to go is still a great position to be in.

If we lose saturday we'd have taken the exact same amount of points as the last 10 games last season that everybody said was a disaster

10 points from 10 games with 6 defeats

10 points in 9 games has been a bit of a disaster and it does fall at Lampard's door that we haven't managed more (even with the injuries we should have done better)

He still got us into the play offs positions though from looking over our shoulder without having a full pre-season - so he has a decent amount of credit in the bank

The season we were dubbed 'the entertainers' at home we won zero games away from home i believe, so not quite that bad.

Tbf feel there is a good chance for both 5th and 6th atm. Both 3rd and 4th struggling to get any momentum atm, both seemingly having their own problems. Probably get battered now I’ve said it mind

If we finish sixth I think we get done at Sheff Utd in the semis. Save us Preston you’re our only hope.

That first 10 was not “pretty poor”. And our last 8 haven’t even been that bad. AND this is all with injuries to key players.

We will if we play with our usual high line.
5 at the back, sit deep, shithouse mode turned up to 11 and give Simms a Jersey made out of glue so something sticks to him.

58-69 points is pretty much 5-10th. It’s roughly where we’ve been since our first season up.

In that 10 game stretch, most of our games were at home. Our form has ‘dropped off’ in line with more away games. You know probably know this and don’t care because it gives you chance to have digs at Lampard - who you never truly accepted.

Most teams will have a stronger home record and it just so happens the Plymouth, Luton and Derby have hit playoff form in this stretch for survival.

I’m confident that we’d have beaten Plymouth and Luton if it was at home.

And I’m confident we wouldn’t have collapsed without the VAR decision last season but we did and that’s football. Ultimately where you end up is all that matters.

I’m not even judging him on this season. If we don’t go up - I’m judging him on the first 15 games next year.

Fed up of starting the season a third of the way in

Last season is irrelevant.

Going into the last game of the season, we’re in pole position to finish 6th place. We are much more consistent than Boro and we’re at home where we’ve been faultless under Lampard. That’s something you can’t asterix on.

If we miss out on the playoffs, the season is a failure despite Lampard’s turn around and he should be held accountable.

Do a Sunderland and be crap for the second half instead? I don’t think we’ve got the funds to build a squad that can go all year tbh.

That's the difference of having a good GK or Collins. Without this losing streak he would have a win % closer to 70%.

The season isn’t a failure. We’re a 5-10th level team and like all the others (Boro, WBA, Norwich, Millwall) will finish around there give or take the odd result.

Think it’s harsh to judge him if we don’t make it. Understand the perceptive and the season at the club should be seen as a failure but for us to be here with the injuries we have should been seen as success for lampard even if that success is 17th to 7th imo.

He needs to be, it’s been apparent since late February that we had played our way into contention.

Every team in this league has form that ebbs and flows. 50 points this season doesn’t guarantee survival and that’s pretty unheard of. Teams like Pompey and Plymouth have beaten top 3 teams at home and Luton beat Bristol City and ourselves in one week.

Most seasons, there is a whipping boy or two in the division and that just hasn’t been the case this season.

Since Lampard has come in, we’ve been operating at Top 4 level. So to not make the Top 6 would be a failure by any fair metric.

We’ve won more games than any of the teams outside the Top 4.

Realistically, a draw will get us over the line on Saturday unless 1 of the Top 3 loses at home, one of whom is undefeated. A loss v Boro isn’t acceptable this weekend.

Since we beat WBA, it stacked the odds in our favour to make the playoffs. The odds we’ll make the playoffs has only dropped by 10% after losing both the Plymouth and Luton games (down 68-70% to 60%).

I would have thought that would be a basic requirement for a professional footballer. What about a goalkeeper who can't catch a cross or save shots at his near post. Oh I forget Collins already does that.

Your argument just doesn’t really work, it’s cherrypicking and not even accurate (would anyone call 1.5 ppg “pretty poor”?)

Over his time as a whole we’ve averaged the equivalent of an ~80 point season which qualifies you for playoffs every time.

Finishing 4th on 80 points next season would be a huge success and all the evidence points to him being able to achieve that, and possibly more.

Im using your numbers!

People have in fact been calling last season a poor season. But we’ve hit about 1.5ppg the last four years (including this season). Maybe that’s just our level?

It’s more 1.5 than 2 or 1. We’re an upper midtable side. I don’t expect us to go further without an improvement in either squad quality or managerial nous.

I cba to work it out, what's ppg since Lampard came in? Doesn't seem fair to use the results at the start of the season to judge where we are at under the new manager.

Im not! Im using the two thirds of his games outside his purple patch.

I don’t see a team about to storm the league. Maybe im wrong.

My biggest issue with us under Lampard and co. is how poor we've been away from home.

Home form has been impressive and we've had some performances away, but not results.

He's not been able to turn around the 'win or lose, we don't do draws' vibe which isn't great.

He's not been here long enough to break his games into 3 separate sets of results, the results are what they are. We were way off it and he's put us back into contention. It's not even his team so you can't ask for more really.
Think its more likely we've dropped off a bit due to injury problems tbh, but if we make it in and a few start coming back in time for play offs then even that will have been successfully navigated to an extent.

As for a team storming the league, no neither do I, but that's hardly on the manager as they aren't his players. We've got some very good ones but when you dip too far out of the best 11 there are some questionable ones to say the least that will hopefully be moved on. See where we are when they are gone and some Lampard players are in. The potential 'Lampard pull' will be interesting to see in the summer.

Well see. Jury is out for me. We seem to be up for some big games but out thought and out fought in others. I’m willing to believe this deck is mentally weak and overall has quite a low ceiling. I’m just not seeing much from Lampard that he’s capable of a push for 4th over a season. I think we’ll be roughly where we are most seasons and battling for 6th, 5th at a push.
