Yes I know, I meant that he didn’t just start at a PL club. Going to Chelsea/the PL was way too soon for him though.

That side in the 80s under Kendall played some great football. Could easily have one a European cup if it wasn't for their neighbours.

Yes, to be fair, a good team. Graeme Sharp, Kevin Ratcliffe, Neville Southall, won some trophies. Presumably because of Heysel they were banned from Europe. And we know all about that.

They weren't, not least because it hasn't been called that for 22 years.

Bang on, wish I could remember the names Black put forward as a fair few went onto have top careers. I'm sure Kevin Doyle was one of them though, before he signed for Reading.

The Sherwood signing was plain ridiculous from the start. Shoehorning him into our team in turn, also helped sideline Gudjonsson who had been such a pivotal player for us under Black.

Kevin Doyle yep. Keith Lasley's the other one I remember, mind you!

Coleman wasn't necessarily bad in himself, had actually done alright with Fulham compared to Tigana's last months, but what he'd done there was set up a backs to the wall spirit that fought for ground out results based on defence. With us, he was expected to actually win games by breaking teams down.

Ironically Coleman's best time as manager with us was when the taps were turned off, and he had to work with what he had (not much!) as the same kind of mentality came along a bit.

Now, if only he hadn't had such fondness for Freddie Eastwood...

He'd been fine from Fulham for four years by the time Coleman took over!
