Top goalscorers are:

Wright 7 goals - bar the last two weeks has not played since November!
Simms 6
Torp 6

Then it is Mason-Clark,. Thomas and Rudoni all on 5.

Our other striker Thomas-Asante is on four.

Not good enough for a promotion chasing side.

Only 4 teams in the league scored more.

Letting in 2 every game is a much bigger issue.

Weren't there another thread like this last week, 'celebrating' the sharing of goals?

You can look at it both ways.

We scored 18 goals in our winning run, average 2 a game. How many more were your expecting?

If you're 4th top scorers in the league is where the goals are coming from really relevant?

yes we want to be the top scorers in the league but our strikers all look like the lesser skilled identical twin brothers of the players we signed atm

Our top scorer is now back.

Very much expect him now to bag a number of goals from now until the end of the season.

Doesn't Sheffield United's top scorer have nine?

I'm more concerned about why we can't defend our own box at the minute, tbh.

The thread title may be a bit off, I admit but my point was our top scorer has just retuned from mid-November and 'at least he holds the ball up' Simms is on a paltry six.

I think Simms needs to go on a run that he did this time last year to cement our place in the play offs.

I don't think it's scoring goals that'll be the issue. For me it's 100% the rate in which we concede them. This is by far the worst defence we've had since Robins came back them years ago. How and why it wasn't addressed in the summer when it was clearly evident last season that this back line wasn't good enough for a play off push is beyond me. Do we need better/more consistent strikers? Of course we do. But I think our priority if in defence.

People get fixated on a "20 goal a season striker" its an irrelevant statistic
if a striker scores 20 goals in a 20 2-1 defeats this results in zero points
if a striker scores 10 goals in 10 1-0 wins we get 30 points
10 goals fewer but 30 points more
it doesn't matter where the goals come from

It's definitely not a lack of a 20 goal a season striker that's costing us.

If Gyokeres got injured in the playoff season we'd have been fucked. Wright gets injured this season and we win 9/10.

It's giving away awful goals that's the issue.

In agreement with a lot here, losing goals to free kicks being curled in towards the back post, either the cb's need to be more aware, or Dovin needs to be coming out and claiming or punching balls away.
Teams will have looked at the last two games and see how suspect we are to these free kicks and look for the same

Well yes. We had TWO nearly 20 goal strikers last season and didn’t really get near the playoffs in the end.

We need a balance of players like MVE and Thomas going forward. When they're joining un on the attack and we lose the ball we're totally out of shape for the counter attack.

What exactly is it costing us? We are in the play offs. Even with a terrible start to the season. We're top of the form table over the last 10 matches. We're second over the last 15. Don't understand the point trying to be made.

Thomas' goal against Stoke was brilliantly taken, and I guess his position up field was justified considering we were trying to win the game in the last minute, but I would much prefer our defenders to concentrate on defending and leave the goal scoring to our forwards and midfield.

The more goals you get spread across the squad the harder it is for opponents to try to nullify the treat we carry. Plenty of goals in us and players that create, just got to keep going with the coaches asking the players to get into areas that hurt opposition.
