The irony is a focused Reid would tear this league apart and earn himself a move. Hope someone comes in for him, even if he goes for nothing.

Are you for real? I said this at the time, our fans wouldn't know a decent player if it hit them in the face. How about this.... Murphy's dip in form coincided with the whole team playing poorly. Murphy for half a season was the best player in the division. The whole team dipped, he was a part of this but not the cause.

Yes, i'm for real. Your blinkers just prove that it isn't even worth furthering this debate.

Best player in the division for five games. One of the worst (certainly in our team) for around 25. Keep telling yourself otherwise.

If anything I think we overplayed him around January. Needed two or three games on the bench. Firstly so he could recharge the batteries and secondly refocus.

To be fair he started the season on fire... scoring goals, makng assists, running defences ragged. Talented flair players like that have dips & they frustrate because they don't work as hard off the ball as we'd like in league 1 / 2 , we get on their back & for a young lad it got to him I think

Had he been in the championship or premier league he would have been cut more flack& been appreciated for what he does well... like a deli Ali type, and I'm sure would have / and will do , continue to thrive

He certainly went off the boil compared to the first half of the season, as did most the team including Armstrong. Up until Christmas was about the best player in the league. Nowhere near as bad as you make out in the second half of the season but not nearly as good as the first half. The talent he has was clear though. People were saying it at the time but others wouldn't accept it. He's not gone for £12 million because he's crap.

One of our best players in that final at Wembley too.

But far too inconsistent for me as others from his former clubs have said.

World beater one match, pub player the week after....

Looks disinterested to me at times and that is exactly what you don't want from a player.

The fact that he can really turn it on, on the odd occasion, points to his mental state and lack of desire and commitment issues I would say.

I find him incredibly frustrating and the exact sort of player you don't want for a promotion campaign.

Coaches can help players with skills, tactical knowledge and fitness. They can't teach people to be motivated. That starts away from the club at home, they have to bring motivation and a desire to do well with them to work. It is clearly Reid's attitude that is lacking not his skill base.

Totally agree about Murphy but reid's a different story. A wage thief.

Think you're been kind mate. Didn't go to many away last season, but of the games I saw, I can't remember 5 he played well in.

I'm in two minds about keeping Reid on. He's clearly not only a frustrating player on the pitch, but off it as well. When on his game he could be one of the best wingers in this league. However, when off it, we're better off playing with 10 men. Reid is a player that needs to play in a good team, hence why he looked continuously disheartened last season. His mentality is almost lazy. He shys away when relied upon week after week to perform when others are not doing the same. In many ways his situation was similar to Jacob Murphy; from a fans perspective it'd appear that he'd almost choose as and when to perform.

However, I personally think he has a lot of quality, he just needs the right manager to bring that out of him week after week. Is Robins that manager? Time will tell if Reid makes the decision to stay on board. Robins likes to make his job as easy as possible by employing players that have a 'can do' attitude. Hardly an illogical philosophy but it could come at a price. Flair players are integral to a quality side, and require the ability to be given the freedom to express themselves on the pitch. If Robins gave Reid this treatment, taking a calculated risk on him could potentially pay off in the long run.

Agree with what you've said and think you're pretty much bang on in your general analysis.

The only thing I would argue differently is that I think he shouldn't be given another chance. Last season was costly enough.

We have a chance of playing well this season. This will give confidence. Confidence players should do well.

And it always amazes me how better some players are in the last year of their contract

You are joking right? He wasn't even the best player in the city team for half a season, never mind the division

1 goal in his first 16 games

Then he had his hot spell where he scored 6 in 3 games

Then 3 goals on his final 23 games

This is why I'm in two minds. There's a view that he shouldn't be kept on as he has a 'losing mentality'. In a sense that's correct because he's equally as responsible for last season's slump as the rest of the squad. If he had pulled his socks up and looked to prove himself in this pre-season then I would've suggested that Robins shouldn't hesitate in keeping him on. However, he seems like a bad seed. Therefore keeping him on could be counter productive to the squad as a whole.

Which = 10 goals. Pretty good return for a midfielder wouldn't you say?

If there is a better player than Reid then bring him in and get rid of Reid but I doubt there is that will come, I would like to see players who want to go past the full back and I don't care if they track back next season at home it should be attack we have enough people who defend including our current striker.

Thing is though, Reid was apparently on decent Wages for League 1 so do we want him sat about in a mood in league 2 collecting a decent wedge?

Fair enough tell him to get himself in the shop window from now until January and go out and tear up the league and he could potentially go then.

Wage is another con of him staying. I can imagine we could potentially recoup a loan and a free agent on his salary.

Exactly, could replace him with 2 players who will both be a consistent 7/10 rather than a 1/10 most games and then 10/10 for 2 games a season.

If he goes then couldn't care less. If he stays, and gets his head in the right place, could be a real asset in this division. Problem is I can't see anyone wanting to take him.

Armstrong scored one in the last 13 abd given his game is goalscoring I make it 7 in 54 games. His early season form with us looks like an exception and not the rule.

Yes, decent return for an attacking midfielder.

Not the stats you would expect of the best player in the division for half a season which was outrageously suggested
