Just got the full story from one of the guys involved on Twitter. Apparently there were around 500 people involved, including the real Kurt Drago so the account seemed legit.
Credit where credit's due, it's a good hoax.

While we may have failed that the last 1 and this 1 have been humourous to say the least and unfortunately it was you who were all duped into considering this to be fact. While some have had a great sense of humour regarding it and realised that it was well constructed and believable and taken it in their stride, the responses some of you have posted on here like the guy hoping he dies and stuff, make it even better because it's a perfect reaction.. The group has over 500 people, but there were really only about 10-20 who played a part and some more than others who they deserve the real credit...

In all honestly, wen it dawned on me it was a hoax, I thought, "jesus wish I'd thought of that!! fair play too u guys. My only dislike was the dis on cccfc, from one of ur guys (i assume) if its all in jest, why the attack wen u announced it was fake?
