Anyone else think that the Pressley Out brigade might be being a bit hasty ? Yeah we've had a shite start but the blokes only just signed a new contract, getting him out now would be costly and I'm not sure we would attract anyone better. I agree not all (if any) of his signings have been much cop but I honestly don't think he's a bad manager. Yeah he's playing a formation that none of them seem to be able to grasp but I reckon we should stick with him. We're still only 5 points outside the playoffs, get a run going at this point and people will be talking about Pressley getting knighted for Christ sake. Stop jumping on the bandwagon people, were not Barcelona, we've always been an inconsistent club but I'm not sure it's Pressley that's the problem.

We have a small squad, one that is worse than last year. We need to see how the results go when his first 11 is available, if the results are poor then, and he refuses to try anything different, then I don't see any option but to try someone else. Certainly too soon to sack him now.

He has been here 2 years , its becoming increasingly obvious that off field issues have given him a free pass to failure .
put it however way you like it , i wouldnt call 10 wins in the last 43 league games as "knee jerk" . At this level in this division , id call that awful.
Why can other managers on smaller budgets put together better starting 11s (swindon) , he has bought in 31 players , yes all free and loans but again something that is very commonplace throughout league 1.
Its amazing that i can list reasons ror him to go , but cant seem to put together 2-3 reasons For him staying

Definitely. Not even looking at the threads suggesting it. I'm not saying he's above criticism, the formation is pants for instance but you need to look at the bigger picture. He's only ever done this job with one hand tied behind his back by SISU and for more than one reason. If he lasts until next season hopefully we will have had the longest period of stability for a long time and funds will be available to strengthen the squad in numbers and quality next season. If we're still in the same on the field situation then this time next season people will probably have a point. But for now people need to ask themselves if he goes are we really going to attract a better manager? I doubt it.

It may be too early for the owners to consider dismissal, but given all relevant stats, nigh on time for fans to mention the possibility - even if only serving as a means to give SP food for thought.

Many people maybe happy with division 3 lower table side. In a relegation battle.

Some others have higher ambitions for CCFC. And have certain standards to be met.

I know which camp im in.

If wasps manage to get 100% of the ACL, and we're left as tenants with little/no revenue then you'll need to re-evaluate those ambitions and standards..

Yep, too soon to consider sacking him.

He does seriously need to look at whether or not he has the right personnel to deploy the system he is using at the moment though.

5-3-2 / 3-5-2 can work, but you have to have the right players in place,. You do also need to be flexible in your approach and not just stick with a sytem come hell or high water.

Different teams deploy different systems and you have to be prepared to counter that. Against Preston the system was a total disaster.

I like SP and want him to do well, but there is nothing knee jerk if people's reactions.
His formation is taking us no where and I'm alarmed he can't see it.
If it's the same come January then I think he should go.
I don't jump on a manager at the first sign of trouble, the results simply haven't been good enough and if he has to play 5 deffenders at the back to try and stop us conceding lots of goals then that highlights where we're going under him.

1 point off relegation though, and where are we going to get the wins from?

Knee jerk reactions can sometimes save a season. This season is starting to look like we need saving already!

I would have thought the contract would have included some performance criteria.

Like .... we expect to be in the top 6 this season, failing to achieve that results in some agreed criteria.
Maybe, top half by Xmas ready for a push for promotion in the new year. Again with implications.
If they gave him a 4 year contract without criteria they are even bigger idiots than I thought.

There would have been expectations put upon him surely!

This is Sisu though, so who knows.

Yes except we have a higher wage budget than 16 of the 24 teams ...according to waggot and fishface.

If Wagott and Fishface told you it was going to rain, would you grab your umbrella, or put on your Bermuda shorts and suntan lotion?

How long do you think Pressley would last if the ownership of our club change hands ?

"a free pass to failure" - a great statement tactics / formation are clearly down to him. New players / loan signings - on the whole have been very poor during his reign not sure how much is down to him or Waggott. Regardless of formation just think since Xmas there have been too many poor players - Fonz Akpong Tudgay

We're all well aware that they like to be clever with words.

    1. We have a higher wage budget.

    2. We have a higher wage bill.

Two statements that could be read as being the same, but actually are different.

35% win ratio is why people are posing questions and rightly so. That's abysmal in league 1.

I agree. Pressley is always banging on about the standards he has set at the club. But those standards seem to revolve around workrate, intensity, pressing etc. These qualities should go without saying - no team will succeed at this level unless they are willing to graft for 90 minutes, The extra factor that sets the top teams apart is that the grafters also have a bit of quality. Since relegation in 2001 we have seen the squad deteriorate in quality every season to the point where we have nothing but willing runners. It's almost as if Pressley isn't bothered when we lose as long as they have given 100% in his opinion.

As I have said before, we have a point a game in 2014, relegation form. If that doesn't ring a few alarm bells I don't know what will.

He obviously is bothered, but I honestly think he just believes it will take time and it will all come good in time.

Time is one commodity that is in very short supply in the game of football. Ferguson wouldn't had lasted 5 mins in this current climate we have these days.

Once you go on a losing streak it can be very hard to get out of it, because confidence and morale are very much dented.

Perhaps Pressley does think he has time, given the fact that he's just signed a 4 year contract, which is unheard of at this level. I thought when I've listened to him after recent games that he is certainly complacent about our plight. He said we were terrific after Crawley and thought we deserved something yesterday because we played well in the second half. So maybe he thinks it will all come right fairly soon.

The flaw in all this is that as and when any of the young players come good they will be sold. So we will always have journeymen and kids, never any proven quality. His master plan simply cannot work. As people say, you have no time in football.

He has to have until the end of 2014 to turn round the situation.

If the same issues persist its time to wave goodbye.

Would agree with that. See where we are at Christmas (unless cast adrift at the bottom).

No improvement and it would give a new man to bring in his own players in Jan.

Thorn had a 21% win ratio in a higher league with no experience , was a terrible manager that refused to change things .
pressley has a 22% win ratio in the last 43 league games , and refuses to budge on his tactics .
he can dig his own grave

Is there a reason you chose 43 games and not 46 ( a season) ? We'd have played 442 in 3/4 of those games.

Pressley just needs to keep us up.. there is no requirement to win many games surely, that will not affect the mission.

The most worrying thing thing is he sounds relatively pleased with the performances vs Crawley and Crewe

If the current model is not sustainable in the Championship as Fisher says, then Pressley is probably getting a pat on the back and crate of bubbly every game at the moment.
