It’s great to have an owner that engages with the fan base. Let them know what’s happening and they will support the club. He hasn’t let any sensitive details out but has still but over a reasoned account of what and why.

Woke up this morning………

It's only cringe to the minority. If it was that unwelcome, the fans wouldn't have made a song about him nor would Singers Corner spend a lot of time airing the lyrics. Regardless of personal feelings and opinions, there can be no denying the positive effect DK has had on the club since he came in. MR and Adi get to celebrate with the team on the pitch. The work DK has done behind the scenes, doesn't he deserve some recognition ? End of season party, why not on the pitch too with the team he now owns ?

Admittedly, the same argument would have been true about any new owner unless they planned to put us in admin and quit the CBS. Oh yeah, we've already done that scenario.

It's really nothing to do with "minority", come back to me when we lose a few games and the "majority" are demanding King goes. The song is also cringeworthy. It's nothing against him personally and by no means am I slating what he's done so far.

You can also bet the "majority" were saying "Dug King is SISU" as well. It was also Singers Corner singing "There's only one Gary Hoffman" too, I'm not sure it proves anything.

The lap of honour is for playing staff.

Come back to this post in a few years when the "majority" want him out and because I'm not foaming at the gash about it I am a "Doug King Lover".

Haha, Orange Ken.

Can't even remember his real name now.

Wasn't there a rumour that he had invited some old bird to that game and he was trying to impress her by sitting on the bench?

The big news line from that interview is the exclusivity clause - that’s very good news indeed. Tough shit, Wasps.

He’s a bit of a strange character - doesn’t seem that comfortable or well-practiced under the spotlight, which is kind of refreshing and kind of odd.

Seems like he’s prizing flexibility over long-term security when it comes to the stadium, and his mentions of Huddersfield in the relegation zone and the chance of us going down to League One suggest he’s as focused on the downside risks as he is on the upside ones. On the eve of us potentially sealing a playoff spot, is that just being prudent, or is it lack of ambition? Again, I think it’s a bit of both.

I think it’s very sensible. Magical thinking doesn’t get anyone anywhere but it’s catastrophic in football.

The not being a particularly confident speaker doesn’t worry me either. It’s the characteristic that is most over rated yet doesn’t have any bearing on performance whatsoever.

Its why you get so many sociopathic managers and politicians.

Not sure I agree with that. Magical thinking is the default setting for most teams’ owners at this level. In fact, my big worry with King’s cautious approach is that when the rest of your peers are totally ignoring financial realities, how do you expect to keep up with them?

There is a certain logic you stay cautious until the bubble bursts.

Does depend on said bubble doing what you hope it does, however!

You have to judge King by his actions. So far we’ve seen some very modest business reorganisation and Ryton investment and hopefully stabilisation of the stadium situation.
The test comes over the summer when (very likely) some significant money comes in from player sales. Will he use it, even add to it to really improve the squad or will he bag it?
I don’t think it’s unrealistic to hope a new owner would invest some sensible amount of money and noticeably improve the squad- especially after the year we’ve had, and the revenue that has brought in.
The fans have shown there is significant business potential here.

I suppose you could optimistically sit and wait for them to go pop. West Brom won't look too healthy for example next season when the parachute payments stop and they've borrowed heavily for this season.

Well exactly - obviously it makes sense in most other industries to be cautious when all your competitors are going mental in terms of speculation. But this isn’t any old industry, it’s competitive sport, and they don’t give out trophies at the end of the season for Best Balance Sheet.

This is the problem with the media sniffing Wolves/Bournemouth/Man City/Wrexham's farts, they ultimately encourage other clubs without Hollywood tycoons to take silly risks.

Right, but my point is that being a basket case financially doesn’t seem to stop you from succeeding in this league. It might soon be a condition of succeeding if money continues to pour in.

I’m sure there is a place in English football for a sensibly-run, financially conservative team that never outspends its means - I’m just not sure if the top two divisions are going to be that place.

They don't, no. That being said I'd be content with an owner that sorted our long term foundations - ground, training, academy etc - didn't charge interest on any loans they made, and spent whatever spare cash was generated from transfers back on the club / team. What we haven't even had is the foundations for years, so it's a long rebuilding job.

That'd be a start.

Naturally I'd love Joe Spunkathon to come in and make us one of the dick waving elite, but in the absence of that...

Exactly, the Wrexham stuff about signing Bale and loads of other players like it is nonsense. Look at Salford as an example.

Fans in general are awful for it.

Our Doug has delivered all along the line, took over January, no players sold, Fisher out immediately, Sepalla 100% gone soon after, Wasps gone completely, Ryton being re-vamped, CBS secured and maybe just maybe the premier.
